In The Heights composer and actor Lin-Manuel Miranda and Sex and the City star Cynthia Nixon announce the nominations for the 2009 Tony Awards at The New York Public Library for Performing Arts on Tuesday (May 5) in New York City.

Billy Elliot: The Musical led the race with 15 nominations with Next to Normal grabbing 11 and Hair picking up 8.

The three lads who portray the title star of Billy Elliot on a rotating basis – David Alvarez, Trent Kowalik, Kiril Kulish – compete for best actor in a musical.
