The Real Housewives of D.C. -- In Development!

Bravo just announced that a spin-off of its hit docu-series franchise The Real Housewives, is in development, this time set in the influential metropolitan region of Washington, D.C.

“We’re tapping personalities who are among Washington D.C.’s influential players, cultural connoisseurs, fashion sophisticates and philanthropic leaders – the people who rub elbows with the most prominent people in the country and easily move in the city’s diverse political and social circles,” said Frances Berwick, Executive Vice President and General Manager, Bravo Media.

These leading members of D.C. society will be attending important cultural events, political galas, gallery openings and fundraisers in Washington society.

The Real Housewives franchise has made its ways through Orange Country, New York City, Atlanta and New Jersey.

I’m from/live in DC and I’m not sure how this would work out in terms of drama as DC people are pretty serious and above all, quite *discrete*. here, if you’re not in politics, than you’re military. If you’re not in either one of those, than your a contractor for them. It’s all very intertwined so everyone has to be polite to one another. In private, people talk, but certainly not air out these thoughts on a show for everyone to see………….

I live in DC and that’s not always true in terms of people in DC being [sticks in the mud]. It mainy depends on what part youre from/living in. My friends and I are always on the art gallery/ music scene side and those people are not “discrete” about anything. ID TOTALLY WATCH.

    Same cheese, different state.

I doubt these housewives husbands are anyone of real importance or influence or ambition. Because in politics… image is everything.

No self respecting civil servant would want to see their vapid housewife act a fool on television and basically act like a girl in highschool. These shows are stupid, though I do watch Housewives on NYC.

    @Mailey:

Also. If you’re not in politics, military or intelligence (ie: Pentagon, CIA, FBI) than you’re a journalist or a member of the media. Journalists are careful not to become “outsiders” and rely on their sources. Being a part of a tacky reality show would cast doubt on thei seriousness career-wise.

So I’m not sure what these husbands would be doing exactly.

    Nicole Says:

I agree with other posters. If these people are in politics or have spouses who are, they’re in for a rude awakening. Loving New Jersey though and didn’t think I would….

    DC born and bred.
    i can’t wait!

    HA! Says:

Please, they can find tacky people to take place in this formula show anywhere. DC is no exception.

I will watch if it’s not as boring as the NYC one.

    Ruby Says:

As a Washingtonian myself, I don’t think DC will have as many choices for housewives. We’re not as celeb-obsessed and, I’d like to think, anyone remotely appropriate would turn this the hell down in a heartbeat – we don’t like to air our dirty laundry!
That said, I’m sure I will be proved wrong. Will watch BIGTIME.

    Caroline Says:

DC has plenty of pompous people. Just turn on CSPAN.

I can only stand the new jersey one so far….and DC doesn’t sound so exciting.

I live in DC and I absolutely love it! It will bring new meaning to politician.
    LOVE IT! THANKS BRAVO!

    Barb Says:

I think you’re all right to say it won’t be political wives — read the quote again – “philanthropic leaders, cultural connoisseurs…” — people who have a lot of money who go to a lot of galas, art galleries, museums, board members for charities, etc. Those are doctors and lawyers wives and/or (I would think, in DC) wives who have retired from money-making careers.

    Dave Says:

A bunch of WASP’s?…no thank you.

  22. 22
    brentbent Says:

Even in DC there will be some publicity whores with more desire to be on TV than common sense. People will do some crazy things to get themselves onto these shows and I’m certain they’ll find some housewives more than will to dish and serve their friends.

  23. 23
    RD Says:

Hopefully they are not as trashy as the NJ Housewives

  24. 24
    groundcontrol Says:

No one of importance or social standing in DC would be caught dead on a show like this. Actually no self respecting person would be on a tacky show like this. Maybe some delusional real estate agents who want the publicity. Seriously men in this town crave respect and I can’t imagine whose wife would risk her husband’s career and being ridiculed to be on this show.

  25. 25
    klarinette Says:

There should be a Dallas Real Housewives! Southern Baptist women with big money and big hair would make great television!
