Russell Crowe Rides Onto 'Robin Hood' Set

Russell Crowe and costar Kevin Durand (pictured below) shoot new scenes for the much-anticiapted movie, Robin Hood on Tuesday (June 16) in Wales, which borders England.

The Ridley Scott-directed blockbuster, which also stars Cate Blanchett as Maid Marian, has taken over much of a Pembrokeshire beach with a cast and crew of over 800, plus 130 horses.

Robin Hood is set to be completed by August for a wide release in 2010.

Thank you Jared for correcting your mistake! Please make sure it doesn’t happen again!

From a very frustrated welsh girl.

As if some puny 20 year old could EVER carry a movie like Robin Hood …!!
There was a huge hole in the middle of Kingdom of Heaven, and its name was Orlando Bloom. A casting disaster probably imposed on Ridley Scott by the studio to appeal to the under 25′s.
Why should every blockbuster cater to THEM ? The best Robin Hood movie made to date featured an ageing Sean Connery and Audrey Hepburn. Robin didn’t die in his 20′s, you know.
And if you can see “fat” on Crowe you need glasses.

@jaye: Obiviously you haven’t done your research and your only reason for posting is to diss Russell Crowe. The full spectrum of the story is the ‘life of Robin Hood’ from young boy to adulthood.
I said what I meant. This is a blog and thankfully, I don’t need your pre-approval to say whatever I please. If you like Russel Crowe then bravo for you, but that doesn’t mean EVERYONE likes him. But as it turns out, I do like him as an actor. I think A Beautiful Mind was one of his best movies. I don’t care if he’s playing Robin Hood in his OLDER years, he’s hardly the Robin Hood type. I guess these days he has to take whatever is offered him, but he should have passed on this one. My only reason for posting is because IN MY OPINION he looks ridiculous in the part. I don’t have to research that. Opinions are like that, you get to say what you feel without being right or wrong, it’s YOUR opinion afterall. Oh, I forgot to mention, I think he’s a humongous Jacka*ss off the screen. Have a nice day. :-)

    Why so angry?

Nobody will be forced to watch the movie.

I’ll watch it and I’m looking forward to it.

Russell is a great actor and I’m sure this film will be a good one!
    I love the pictures!

The eternal mention of that phone throwing incident makes me mad. He’s done it, he appologized, got his punishment. Go on.

As of his looks, he’s a man, no pretty boy and he lost the weight, which he gained on purpose for another movie.
    So all is well. :-)

I love to see how he can handle a horse!

I’m glad the Wales/ England mix-up is sorted by now!

    Lucas Says:

@Tru dat: heck no. Robin Hood was a nobleman’s son who spent years away in the Crusades. Orlando is too much the young pup for that role. not to mention that he’d be prettier than Maid Marian, just like he was prettier than Helen of Troy.

JARED, muchas gracias for the sneak pics of our new and improved ROBIN HOOD! Woooohooo!! All hail Robin of Locksley, Nottingham… or whatever! Russell looks HOT, HOT, HOT!! He’s back to his Maximus form. Can’t believe I have to wait till next year to see this grand visual of medieval England. Can’t wait, totally excited. :D Bless u, Jared.

The pairing of Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett is a match made in heaven. They’re my fave Aussie actors in the world. Both are acting powerhouse and will bring dynamite performances on the big screen. Yeah! :D

Thank you for the explanation. It was hard to tell what you were saying because it seemed so angry it ‘appeared’ your only goal was to lash out. There are many ways to say something so intent can be read, but for many I bet that wasn’t it. Yes, this is your opinion, and you are free to post what y ou want, but just remembre when appearing agitated it’s hard to ‘read you’ clearly. :p

In a ‘I know he’s not going to do this’ way, Russell Crowe could play the Queen of England and as miscast as it might seem initially, I think ‘we’ might all forget, once there in the theatre, that we’re looking at RC, since he disappears into the part.

As for taking what he can get. Ridley Scott, who he has already made four other films with (Gladiator, A Good Year, American Gangster, and Body of Lies) probaby didn’t throw the script to Russell out of pity and I doubt RC took the film out of desperation. He has said ht likss working with Ridley.

I’d like to say, for me, of his most recent films, his bests come from two different directors for two different films: State of Play and 3:20 to Yuma.

    That is all.

    oi vei Says:

LOL. Make that 3:10 to Yuma (Never type in the dark). :p

    janey maguire Says:

Ridley Scott is on record as saying that Kingdom of Heaven was developed with Russell and intended that RC took the role. However, Crowe was filming something else and the schedules for them didn’t work out so Ridley made it with Bloom instead. And it must be said that most of the reviews felt that though Bloom was OK he lacked the gravitas that Crowe had brought to Gladiator.
As for Crowe’s looks….considering Gladiator was shot 10 years ago, and despite not being a ‘pretty boy’ in that movie its indisputable that he had lots of people think he was hot in that …..he doesn’t seem to me to have changed much. He looks good i n a rugged kind of way….and they were rugged times. Besides, he is an actor who can sell the part with his on-screen charisma,.

    Dave J Says:

Robin Hood was always classified as being very skinny and not so plump looking like Russel Crowe. Russel Crowe would make a better knight than a person who can swing around ropes. This version of Robin hood may be the more serious version than the light- headed version we are accustomed to seeing.

    ismail Says:

    @Dave J: Totally agree with you !

I think that people doesn’t want another disney version of Robin Hood, with another f*cking happy ending !

  13. 63
    Pammy Says:

Plump…Russell…NOT. He is very slim and trim now. Remember he is wearing layers of midevil clothing for the part. If you saw him without all that and in regular clothes you would all change your opinion of him being plump, fat, overweight, etc. His physique is perfect for the part and he looks great. He is also a very natural and excellent horseman.
Oh, and Kevin Durand is in the picture with Russell driving the ATV, he is in the back seat behind Scott Grimes, and I think that is Alan Doyle behind Russell.

    gareth Says:

the pictures capture a serious and authentic looking picture….

i hope crowe brings some of his gladiatoral presence to the role…
hopefully to secure a more adult certifciate would distance the picture from the vibrant costner version…

also the white horse may suggest this is in fact a dream sequence they are shooting?(backgrounds look biblical)

i am looking forward to the picture hollywood movies recently have been quite logical and predictable…

i think the producers have made a good decision as crowe is often unpredictbale in how he approaches certain materials whilst
the hood legend is always entertaining and to watch…

not a fan any longer Says:

Oh goodie goodie another film about lack of connection and violence. Mr. Crowe has been hitting one note for so long he has forgotten that acting requires range! Perhaps Mr. Crowe should take some of his paycheck and invest in acting lessons. I surely will not foster his income by seeing him sleep walking through another role, appearing bored, disinterested and not engaged. How many more times can he go to the bank cashing in on the gladiator look? Not a fan any longer.

  19. 69
    AnnieW Says:

I was hoping this would be a telling of who the legend really was rather than another semi-fantasy of the legend. I believe that will play to the strong suits of the great Ridley Scott — and just as Crowe brought such multi-dimensional gravitas to Gladiator for Scott, I think he’s going to be the actor made for this approach. As for Cate, I am so looking forward to her portrayal of Maid Marian. Having the two of them playing off each other with Ridley directing has got me very much looking forward to the film for what I’m going to experience in the theater.

Thanks for the pictures — wonderful costumes! Crowe looks so “real man” in his.

    Jokergurl Says:

Well he won’t need a stunt double for the horse riding, the man can ride. This looks really good, and the combination of Crowe and Ridley Scott really works, so looking forward to this one.

    craig Says:

Ugh… What happend to the original idea for this movie of Robin Hood being the villian and the Sheriff of Nottingham being the good guy? Could have been an interesting take on a classic story, instead we just get a traditional version. =/

    So much for daring do.

For all you folks who are complaining that the above text says “Wales, England” and how they are saying Wales is in England. I suggest you read the text again. It says “in Wales, which borders England”. Well, Wales does border England.

sure crowe is too old if they are reteling the primary story, but what about cate? they’re both excellent actors and appealing but to old. was it old maid marian?
maybe its the later years like connery and hepburn in robin and marian?
