just having a president who would speak about it at all is a hugely positive contrast from the former administration, but i do hope he delivers on this.

  • h

too bad he’s against gay marriage LOL

  • lakers fan in boston

i thought he was againist gay marriage?
i think he’ll only go as far as helping gays out in limited ways but i dont think he’ll do much about gay marriage

  • dIETER

I think marriage should be reserved to man and wife – the gays and lesbos can have a registered partnership, marriage is something holy which should not be taken up the pooper !!!

  • cute

    That is wonderful!

  • Jared

How can someone support gays and lesbians but not support gay marriage? dee dee dee

Everyone should have the right to be happy or miserable, whatever the case may be.

Ms. Michelle has bad posture at times, I think. Stand tall, shoulders back. I know, I’m paying the price for not listening to others’ advice I just gave. I mean well ;-)

The man has been in office 6 mos. with a global economy meltdown. I think the Gays can be patient and see what he does in the future. Even as President he is entitled to his own opinion. Whether he is for or against Gay Marriage there will be a lot of people that will disagree with him one way or the other; you can’t please everyone.

You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift.

You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.

You cannot help the wage earner by pulling down the wage payer.

You cannot further the brotherhood of man by encouraging class hatred.

You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich.

You cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than you earn.

You cannot build character and courage by taking away man’s initiative and independence.

You cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they could and should do for themselves.

This was written by Abraham Lincoln. Obama, who likes to compare himself to President Lincoln, apparently cannot read.

  • h

@Kat: Kat, i appreciate your sentiments but this is, without a shadow of a doubt, far too much wisdom for 99.9% of the people who read this site to grasp. It’s a shame, really.

  • lucia

he is such a great leader!!

  • jopi

@jaye: People need to wait for their civil rights?? — how ridiculous!!!

  • sandy

i love our first lady, she is so beautiful, but most of all, she is intelligent, educated, involved, and love to help others, what a great humanitarian she is, we are so blessed to have our first family. he cares about every one.

  • jordan

hmmm if he’s so pro-gay rights, why is he against gay marriage?? don’t like the guy nor do i trust him.

  • Lalique

I agree. Now he needs to start moving on getting rid of the moronic, hypocritical, and most importantly, useless “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy, and if he really supports gays and lesbians, on supporting same-sex marriage, although throughout his campaign, he stated that he believed that marriage was between a man and a woman.

  • Lalique

What is baffling to me is seeing the President of the United States on a gossip site. Think about it: this post, which I agree raises serious questions about Obama’s support for gay rights, is sandwiched between Eva Longoria’s mattress preferences and something about a beauty queen who is somebody’s future sister-in-law.

The President and the First Lady are also superstars. It’s a new phenomenon that we have yet to fully comprehend.

I think the majority of the people who come to this site do so for the gossip and the pictures, to vent about celebrities they dislike or who’ve done something stupid, or to share opinions about the posts. But it’s a GOSSIP site, not a political blog.

So, I don’t think the people on this site necessarily lack the wisdom to grasp Mr. Lincoln’s words. What I think is that Kat’s quote might receive more in-depth responses if it were on a different kind of site. A site not dedicated 99.99% to gossip, for example :-).

  • Lalique

Although I disagree with you regarding Mr. Obama’s reading ability ;-), thank you for posting such pearls of wisdom! There’s a lot of food for thought in that quote – thanks again.

  • sandy

@ KAT, first off, every thing you wrote are all lies, Obama has not done any of those things you claim he has, some people will say anything as long as it serves their agenda, i can and do think for myself, thank you. now keep your little words of wisdom to your self, they are all lies from someone who hates our president, what a shock, …not.

@jaye: People need to wait for their civil rights?? — how ridiculous!!!
If you pick up a history book you’ll find MANY people did wait on CIVIL RIGHTS.
Civil rights are RIGHTS we enjoy by law. They are already laws in existence; there is no such law for Gay Marriage. So their CIVIL RIGHTS can’t be violated in that regard. In our country Civil Rights are usually thought of in terms of the specific RIGHTS GUARANTEED BY THE CONSTITUTION: freedom of religion, of speech, and of the press, and the rights to due process of law and to equal protection under the law. I don’t recall the constitution saying anything about GAY Marriages. If they want to AMEND the Constitution well have at it, but it’s not a CIVIL RIGHT until there is a LAW.

  • alanta

I think ole Abe would be appalled at some of the top corporations/billionaires and some of the corruption going on in this country. Perhaps some of the laws passed that allowed such corruption and loop-holes need to change. Phill Gramm of thinking must change.

Sh!t rolls down hill, that’s about all.

  • http://Thedressisadorable YES!

HE is all talk. HE made the gays and lesbians believe he would change things, but all he does is talk.
People voted for him based on his promises to legalize gay marriage and equal rights.

  • Anonymous

If gay marriage becomes legally acceptable then why not polygany or polandry. Monogamy isn’t a one type fits all solution to many relationships. In a democracy this needs to be recognised!

  • Jessica

    Who cares!

People are suffering because there are NO jobs.

  • zy

people…are your seriously agaisnt obama because of that fact that things hasnt change yet….just because he is president now doesnt mean that in 2 months everything will be jolly and fine..he said it time and time again…change takes time….. give it some time obama is doing the best he can with gay community but it isnt up to him for gay marriage..he doesnt pick and choose which states should allow it and which shouldnt..he is trying his best..give us schools, health centers..trying to end the FCUKING war bush but on his shoulders..trying to bring back our soilders..if u wanna complain so fcuking much call in mccain..who wants the war to continue until the end….or u can call in bush..who did what for us??..change takes time..obama is not all talk he will come through on his promises, dnt lose your hope in him just because everything isnt perfect take time..obama is giving those who lost their job because of the economy a second chance..give it time he has only been in office of 6 months..AND HE CAN READ obama isnt trying to be anyone but himself.

  • Lalique

@jaye: You forgot pursuit of happiness.

  • Lalique

@YES!: Sorry, no, he didn’t promise to legalize gay marriage. He actually stated, quite clearly and simply, that he believed marriage to be between a man and a woman.

  • Lalique

@Anonymous: You mean, polygamy and polyandry, right? Oh, I’d like to see the prenups these would cause…

  • Jacob

Why did gays and lesbians vote for Obama? He does not support gay marriage. He has stated many times that he believes marriage is between 1 man and 1 woman. He’s a hypocrite when it comes to marriage rights for gay people.

  • Liverwurst

Kat #16 You’re the smartest poster I’ve read in a long, long time. Thank you.

  • bulrush

@zy: He inherited one hell of a mess thanks to the previous incumbent. Patience is called for in all sectors of the community. Patience and support.

  • violet

Someone, PLEASE, tell her to lose the belts!!! Enough, already. BTW, great point Kat. But I would argue that Pres Obama can read just fine (just ask his faithful companion the telprompter), The problem is he doesn’t believe any of what you quoted from Lincoln.

  • Halli

I support Barack Obama. He is not perfect buit is a VAST improvement.

Kat… I hope that those words of Abe Lincoln can be remembered by the current brand of the Republican Party who are only interested in tearing down people for self interest.

    Michelle looks beautiful.

    Peace out!

  • sophie

aww bless this man, been a while since i saw such a genuinely warm human being

  • sophie

@h: lol true but i think he personally isnt, his party is & i really think he would legalize it if he could but his party is against it so yeah you know
