Kate Winslet Covers Harper's Bazaar

Kate Winslet opens up about her rep, nudity, and why she doesn’t do drugs in the August 2009 issue of Harper’s Bazaar, on stands July 21st. Check out what the 33-year-old British actress had to say:

On her famous nude scenes in The Reader: “If people are noticing my boobs in a movie and saying they do what real boobs do, then that’s great. I’ll be 34 in October. I can’t keep getting away with it. There was so much of it in The Reader because the story required it, but people have seen enough of my bum and my boobs. I have to put them back.”

On having a good reputation: “When everyone was out getting plastered, I didn’t do all of that. I was working. I was doing life. Now that I look back, I feel very lucky. I’ve never taken drugs, never been offered cocaine.”

    she looks wonderful. so talented.

Yeah sure, she says that she wont get naked now…but just you wait. if some script pops up that calls for nudity for the scene to be “authentic” and “believable” her panties will find the floor once again.

  • Marianne

Wow! The one where she is hanging off the rafters is an amazing shot!

  • jaxon

Her talent in The Reader was pure acting at its finest. No one else could have played that role as well as she did. Her nudity was raw, unselfconscious, and real. If she was uncomfortable you never saw it. She was so into the role it was like she didn’t even know there was a camera in the room. THAT is talent.

I had heard that Nicole Kidman was offered the role when Kate looked to be unable to do the film. She would have ruined an unforgettable film. No way she could have played it as bravely as Kate did.

    Pretty lady,ugly cover

  • jr=nobody’s sweetheart

Oh please!! GMAFB, butter wouldn’t melt in her mouth. Winslet keeps doing these interviews and still NO ONE wants to hire her. I wonder why?

  • gaga

Kate W. got the role in The Reader AFTER Nicole K. pulled out due to her pregnancy. Winslet was never first choice. She has a hard time getting work because she is a major bitch and is 1/2 up her own arsehole.

A very sofisticated cover. Not my favorit pic of Kate, but very elegant. She is one of the greatest actress of our time. No doubt about it. At least, no doubt at all for me. And also a very inteligent, truely and beautiful woman. She deserves the sucess she has.

  • Sally

@Marianne: I would say the same. A great pic!

  • maryrowery

Dear GAGA @ #7- You are misinformed. Kate was the first choice of both director Stephen Daldry and then producer Anthony Minghella. She had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts. Nicole Kidman replaced HER. When the film’s schedule changed and NK became pregnant, Kate’s schedule allowed her to take the role. This is not gossip, it was reported by reputable publications like Variety.
This woman is one of the most talented actresses of her generation and works as much as she wants to. She’s also the mother of two young children and doesn’t feel the need to do films back to back to back. She has nothing to prove and isn’t in it to be a “celebrity.”
What amazes me is that, considering she’s only 33, it is conceivable that her best work lies ahead of her.

  • voe

Featuring actress again? No wonder fashion magazines loses more and more subscribers and sales. Did not find her appealing (in Titanic) and still don’t.

  • Jenna

I love Kate! She’s so classy and talented. The pictures are gorgeous and the interview is great. I can’t believe she’s only 33 (not appearance wise because she looks fantastic!) but in terms of her career. The performances that she already did, it makes me feel like she has been acting much longer. It is exciting to think what she’s going to do next.

Oh and I LOVEEE the cover! If you look closely (mainly on the right side of Kate’s face) you can see wrinkles around her eyes!! Or is it just me? I see lines which is refreshing, and I like how I can recognize her in the pictures and she isn’t airbrushed to the point where I can’t tell who she is.

  • luvvy

Cannot stand over-rated Kate, with her typical english butterface.

  • She is so annoying

She still deserves the most annoying actress in the world award

The Reader was pure p*rn for me.
    I felt a bit uncomfortable

Can this woman not take her clothes off just once
i know her body bettter than i know mine

  • Jaye

Over-rated. Let’s hope now that she’s got the Oscar she will slowly ( or at break neck speed) become insignificant.

  • lilly

    @She is so annoying:
“I know her body better than I know mine” That is a bloody good line. lol. I cannot stomach her ‘acting’… on and off screen. I don’t watch her bland movies , Titanic aside, largely thanks to Leo.

  • mon.

hm i feel sorry for all the haters, shes a gorgeous person, inside and out, and its not a bunch of people bashing her that will change it. for gods sake, shes 33 and has 6 oscar nominations(one win), the most brilliant career around (next to Blanchett’s)… absolutely beautiful.. love you, Kate. Haters, reduce yourselves to your mediocre state.

    i adore kate
she has to be the classiest actress
and honestly a lot of other actresses have shown their goodies so dont say shiz
interesting invterview and she looks amazing in those pics
she has a great body as well

  • Kate fan

Pretty pic, I alway knew she did not get plastered or do drugs because it shows in her performances, there is a authentic and genuine mental energy and intelligent acuity that she projects onto the screen and you simply can’t get that from actors that are strung out like the Sienna Miller’s of the biz.

  • K.G.

Kate haters need to STFU. She’s more famous and talented than you’ll ever be.

  • Liz

What? She’s only 34??? I thought she’s like 40….seriously…I know she’s all for that natural beauty thing, but …taking good care of your own face is a responsibility… But! She still is a wonderful actress, no doubt there…just her face and body……….

  • Aliz

Wonderful photoshoot! yay for Kate! ^_^
