Harry Potter Conjures Up $20 Million First Day

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince pulled in $20 million during its midnight run at 12:01 a.m. Wednesday, according to Variety.

The best midnight run of all time!!!

That figure beats the $18 million earned by the latest Batman flick, The Dark Knight, which is also a film by Warner Bros. The next best film was 20th Century Fox’s Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith with $17 million.

TELL JJ: Did you see the midnight screening of Harry Potter? How was it?!

  • nikki

    i loved the movie!!!

  • athena

Nah, it had to do better than that…the movie theater that my sister and I went to had 4 theatres reserved for the new HP series…and at least the three were sold out…I think it pulled in more on its first opening midnight showing…IT was great and I can’t wait to see it again…the directors have a great way of pulling out the visual imaginations of the scenes…GO SEE IT EVERYONE, IT’S GREAT!!!

  • anonymous

i heard it sucked but im still seeing it twilight is better times a million

  • Ellen

i saw it! it was great, especially the love scenes. they were funny(: everyone should go seee it!

  • to anonymous

Reviews both professional and by folks who ACTUALLY saw the HP movie are raves.
How would you know that Twilight is better if you haven’t seen HP. How ignorant a statement is that?
What are you? A teenager in love with Pattison?

  • Weber

WOW I’ll watch it in Friday night \o/

  • David Sep

I saw this last night it was fun.

Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian available for pre-order on DVD and Blu-ray.

wow everyone is getting so emotional over this movie but it does look really good i cant wait to see HP(which will be this weekend) and NEW MOON!:)♥

  • Madeline

Amazing! The movie followed the book very well! I mean, they left out some parts that I thought should be in the movie but, you can’t fit everything from a book in a movie!

It was absolutely spectacular! And I would give it an 11 out of 10 :)

  • marie

saw it at midnight!!loved it! but not enough snape or prof. mcgon.! love them.and the harry//ginny thing was not that well done/ but STILL LOVED it

  • Granit

Wow! I am surprised. I thought the Harry Potter popularity had fizzled out.

  • mime

i saw it at midnight…amazingly incredible!

  • truthshallgiveuproblems

im going to go see it this weekend, reality is:
if you like action then you’ll give bad reviews to drama
if you like drama then action will make you go to sleep

i like the HP series, i havent seen twilight so i wont give a review, a lot of people told me transformers sucked but i went to see it and it rocked.

Bottom line criticism is based upon imagination, cuz when people come outta the theater they say: “it wasnt what i imagined it would be like”
expectations are what give value to some reviews.

  • Nahla

OH GOD I WANT TO SEE THIS MOVIE SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO BAD!!!!!!!!!!!! I’m hoping to see it with my cousin very very soon =)

  • matt

i saw it! ,, loved it!!!, obviously its not 100% like the book, this one its my favorite of the francise. its funny,, and sad:(, and the quidditch its cool! :)

  • Jessica

I went at midnight, it was AWESOME! They did a great job on this movie. Harry, Ron & Hermione’s acting just gets better and better. I was alittle disappointed with Ginny. Her character was different than in the book, not as confidant and popular, she didn’t have many lines and was pretty boring. Also, they should have made the ending a little more climactic. Other than those small things it was wonderful.

  • stella

It is quite good – I am in love with books, have read them since they first came to the states when I was 10. The movies have never really compared, but this installment is by far the best. It captures the feeling and themes of the book quite successfully and is comic and romantic to boot.

Plus, the theatre I was at had 8 screens showing it, and all were sold out. It was a mad-house. No way has HP mania fizzled out.

  • wendy

    it was amazing!
they did such a good job adapting the book into a movie!

  • thnclcbnla

OMG THE MOVIE WAS AMAZINNGGGG! I went to the midnight showing & I absolutely loved it!

  • Nick
  • Just Interested

& i’m 100% sure it’s going to be amazing of course it’s not going to be exactly like the book but still good ;]]

& who ever mentioned that twilight is better is blind
    twilight doesn’t even come close

  • jta

  • mary

  • devonny

It was great they stayed true to the books!!!!!!!!!!

  • Lisia

I’m a huge HP fan, I’m even writing my Master’s thesis about it, but I went to the midnight run and I was really disappointed with the outcome. It’s like someone said here, not enough action, not enough drama… Just… Weird. I still stand that movie 3 was the best.

  • bbwags114

There were 11 showings last night from 12 – 1:30AM at the theatre I was at and they were all completely sold out. It was a great movie. Totally worth me hating myself this morning for staying up til 4:30am on a work night.

  • -

hello? it’s Harry Potter we’re talking about here, not some low budgeted vampire movie. ofcourse, it’s gonna be a blockbuster history!!!

  • ItalianGirl

it was disappointing, i don’t think that they made a really good work!
the beginning was scandalous! Harry didn’t filrt with the waitress in the book!

  • Jessi

Especially the fight between Harry and Malfoy
and the scenes with Harry comforting Hermione, they were cute. :D
I wish Harry & Hermione would of gotten together instead of him and Ginny, I don’t like her. >_>
    But the movie was GREAT!
I totally thought it would suck, like most of the fifth movie (minus the ending, kinda) but it totally blew my mind and I loved it.

I totally can’t wait until it comes out on DVD and then we get to see the Seventh movie, part 1 & 2. I got a feeling that Deathly Hallows is going to surpass ALL the Harry Potter films.

I’m looking forward to the Deathly Hallow scene where Harry visits his parent’s graves. And the scene where he’s walking off towards his supposed “death”. xD! CAN’T WAIT!

If Half Blood Prince comes out on DVD by Christmas, it’ll the best Christmas present EVER! >:D

    I can’t wait.
I wanna see Half Blood Prince again.
It was totally worth staying up til 3 am.
    Totally worth it.
    Totally worth the money too.
and I’m freaking glad it surpassed the Dark Knight and Star Wars.
    That’s awesome.

The sixth film, of the Harry Potter series was, just the right amount of darkness for a Potter film and it made the movie more exciting.

And the Inferi, we definitely awesome looking.

But I’m sad to see the movies of this most beloved film series come to an end soon. I’ve grown up with these films and I started watching them and reading the books when I was like 10.

I’ll cry when Deathly Hallows Part 2 comes out.
and that’ll be the end of Harry Potter.

  • rocky

Thanks Athena! Can’t wait to see it. Hopefully this Friday.

  • rocky

  • Diane lee

  • Jessi

@to anonymous: LMFAO! I totally agree.

  • lene

wow, the midnight showing was crazy! people were even dresssed up as harry potter characters, it was wild. honestly, it was a good movie, but i am disappointed that they left out a lot from the book.

  • Jessi

@rocky: LMFAO! IM SORRY! xD! I literally nearly screamed when the fight scene between Malfoy and Harry came up though. :O Just sayin’ xDDDD

  • kaila

    I DID!

  • jessica

  • Heather

Oh. My. God. It was fabulous! Totally worth waiting in long lines and being crammed into theaters! They did an amazing job and I’m absolutely going to see it again before it leaves the movies! :)

  • Naomi
