January Jones Covers Interview Magazine

Mad Men star January Jones takes the August 2009 cover of Interview Magazine.

The 31-year-old actress, who plays the doting wife of Don Draper (Jon Hamm), was interviewed by Jack Nicholson. Here are some excerpts:

On if she was named January because it’s when she was born: “It’s a coincidence. It’s from a book called Once is Not Enough by Jacqueline Susann. Bad book… People think that I changed my name. I could’ve been an actress, a superhero, or a stripper.”

On some things that women now take for granted: “Things like getting to go to an Ivy League school, getting work as a high-powered businesswoman or as a studio executive. Anything you would think.”

On what success means to her: “Well, success for me is to feel happy—80 percent of the time. That’s been my goal in life. I think that comes from my father. He’s a very optimistic, happy person. I’m not quite sure if I’ll ever feel this, but I want to know how to be happy. I’m happy when I’m at work. I’m happy when I’m with my family or my dog. But, you know, there’s always that feeling of, I’m not satisfied. I have that thing in my stomach where I just need to keep striving for things. In my mind, I want the fairy tale.”

Ummmm, why the f*&k should women feel like they should refelect on how “lucky” they are for “Things like getting to go to an Ivy League school, getting work as a high-powered businesswoman or as a studio executive”. These are NOT things women should feel they take for granted…women should have never had feel that way to beging with! I don’t even know why I am responding to some actresses comment…people in Hollywood are so stupid it makes me sick some times.

  • Petunia

The only thing I know about this girl is that she dated Ashton Kutcher for a few years.

  • Raquel

I LOVE her in Mad Men, and she is so beautiful, to number 1, get a life, and chill.I agree with what she said!

  • e

Petunia, maybe this is the time to start watching anything else than gossip blogs ;)

  • Amy

She’s really beautiful and amazing in Mad Men!

  • becca

i LOVE mad men. January looks nothing like Betty here – it’s pretty cool seeing her out of character.

less than a month until season 3!

and @whatever (#1), i think you misinterpreted what she meant. she didn’t say anything about being *lucky*, as you put it. she said that women take certain things for granted, certain things that we women today accept as unalienable rights, but that were, for women in the time that Mad Men is set, not guaranteed them. they fought for the freedoms we enjoy today.
i believe THAT is what she was saying.

  • JS

Probably one of the best up-in-coming actresses at the moment, she’ll win an Oscar one day.

  • MD

    she’s beautiful,i love her

  • Halli

#1 She’s referring to how much feminists have fought to ensure the equality we enjoy today. Chill

  • Oh No…….

I kinda agree with you altough I understand what January Jones was saying. Women take those things for granted. But then again, they never should have been take from us in the first place.

  • bella

I have no idea who she is. Her name as she said in her interview does kinda sound like a stripper name.

  • mad men fan

Man men is the best written show on tv. January is great in her role as Draper’s wife. Love the show.

  • anne marie

Sheesh, she is such a DITZ! Next………

  • OMG

    January’s who?

  • Whattagal

    I’m ready for February..or March..LOL,
She does a fine job on Mad Men…no doubt one of the best written shows on TV.
She’s a bit boring in interviews I’m afraid.
I remember when she was dating Josh Groban.

  • Sheri

I LOVE this show and her in it. If anyone out there has Comcast Cable and the “on demand” package ~ you can catch up on every Mad Men episode for free before the new season airs on August 16th. My husband and I are re-watching every episode so we can get caught up again. You just go to “TV Entertainment” then click on “AMC” channel. You will find Mad Men there … hope this helps! :) This show deserves far more attention than it gets!

  • V

did she used to go out with josh groban?

  • V

oops, “didn’t she” is what i meant

  • Megan Fox

The actress with the most awesome name in Hollywood now… she should be in a Bond film!

  • true blood

She’s beautiful but I don’t like the cover.
Great actress too. Love her in Mad Men.

  • Liza

Love Mad Men, but I hate Betty. Rachel and Don forever! :-)

  • tom

Only thing I saw her in was “Love’s Enduring Promise” and her acting was so bad. No wonder they had her leave and put another actress in her place for the rest of the series.

  • anna

    She’s really beautiful.

  • Question

Didn’t she used to date Josh Groban?

  • mailey

i like her name, even tho it does sound kinda stripperish.
she was in american pie too. and love actually.
    cool cover.

  • happy

I am so happy for January Jones. She started acting in the late nineties and has finally developed into an A list actor! She is nothing like the famous young girls of today. She began dating Ashton Kuther before he was famous. It is so nice to see that after all this time of her hitting the pavement and never giving up her dream that she is on the cover of Interview magazine! Good for her! She worked so hard and she didn’t get there by screwing directors and producers.

    @anna: I agree!!!!
