Hugh Dancy: Paint Splattered Sexy
Hugh Dancy gets primary-colored paint splattered across his body and face as a nod to the troubled abstract expressionist painter Jackson Pollock. The pic is featured in BlackBook’s latest rebel-themed August 2009 issue.
Other iconic rebels Hugh channels include James Dean, Oscar Wilde, and Sid Vicious (all pictured below). Here are some highlights from the 34-year-old British actor’s interview:
On Sex Pistols bassist Sid Vicious: “To be a real rebel, you must have a clear vision of not only what you don’t like, but also what you want to replace it with. It’s about more than just cutting yourself with a razor.”
On author Oscar Wilde: “I think Wilde did something remarkable, at least by the standards of his society: He painted his vision of life, not only by being gay, but also through his shockingly new ideas about how we should look at art.
On his own brush with controversy (the rumor that he caused Claire Danes and Billy Crudup to break up): “I’m English, and I have a very well developed sense of denial. When attention like that becomes a problem, I try to blot it out as if it’s not there. I guess it’s in my genetic makeup.”
