OlderMichael Phelps Gets Smoked in the Pool
Swimming superstar Michael Phelps comes up short after losing to Paul Biedermann (Germany) in the men’s 200m freestyle final at the 2009 FINA World Championships, held at the Foro Italico in Rome on Tuesday (July 28).
The 24-year-old Olympic gold medalist suffered his first individual defeat in a world competition since 2005. Biedermann won in world record time of 1:42.00 while Phelps took the silver with a time of 1:43:22. The time was slightly slower than his gold medal win (1:42:96) in Beijing.

I saw that! Aww man that fricken sucked! And he did not lose because he smoked that ONE time! He just took too long of a break.
this loss is really about the superior suit the other guy had. it was not an even competition.
Really subtle omission, JJ, regarding WHY the German guy won — because he was wearing one of the banned (as of 2010) body suits and Michael was’t. He even admitted in an interview that he could never beat Michael “on his own” and that the suit is what made the difference. Hardly a victory he can boast about.

The way the media is painting this story is so bloody stupid! The guy WON a silver medal, which is no small feat. Just like when Michelle Kwan WON a silver medal in the 1998 Olympics and all the stupid media could talk about was how she “lost” to flash-in-the-pan flutzing Tara Lipinski. Get a clue, stupid gossip mongers!
