Kelly Clarkson Covers Self Magazine September 2009

Kelly Clarkson reigns in purple on the September 2009 cover of Self magazine.

Editor-in-Chief Lucy Danziger tells ET that, of course, the 27-year-old American Idol champ was Photoshop-ed.

“Yes, of course we do post-production corrections on our images,” Lucy said. “Kelly Clarkson exudes confidence, and is a great role model for women of all sizes and stages of their life. She works out and is strong and healthy, and our picture shows her confidence and beauty. She literally glows from within. That is the feeling we’d all want to have. We love this cover and we love Kelly Clarkson.”

“My happy weight changes,” Kelly adds. “Sometimes I eat more; sometimes I play more. I’ll be different sizes all the time. When people talk about my weight, I’m like, ‘You seem to have a problem with it; I don’t. I’m fine!’ I’ve never felt uncomfortable on the red carpet or anything.”

    Looking good.

    too bad so sad Says:

@bobbi: cause she’s photoshopped! there’s nothing interesting about her…in other words, she has no “star” appeal. Sorry, but you all know it’s true…and I feel terrible for stating that.

    mickey Says:

Kelly is cool. She loves herself and looks great. I think it’s fantastic that she isn’t all about trying to be a size -10. She is a great singer and that’s what I want to hear about regarding her, not what her weight is. Nobody ever talks about men like that.

    kristupa saragih Says:

wow she’s very slim now…at least on the cover.

    Kelly works out?

    NAta Says:

@mickey: I agree with you 100%. This girl is very talented, she stays away from the paparazzi, and you never see her involve in any kind of scandal. She is very talented, and I also want to hear more about her music than her weight.

Maybe she has no “star” appeal but she definitely has a “star” voice and thats all what matters in being a good singer (not celebrity or fame *****- singer). Whose CD would you buy- beautiful but completely talentless model who unsuccessfully wants to be a singer or very talented but not so pretty Kelly Clarkson?

    She is too fat!
Obviously they had to photoshop her!
    Kelly is an ugly cow!

I hate magazines covers they are so phtoshopped and fake thats why i never bother buying any

I thought Self claimed they don’t photo shop any of their cover stars. I’m shocked. I think Kelly is an awesome artist and it doesn’t matter if she is a size 2,4,6,8,or 10. It’s what is on the inside that matters most.

    Gosh I LOVE her………….

I saw her in concert and wanted to walk out. It was like being screamed at for an hour. Horrendous!

    Tands Says:

What a cop-out by the magazine. They address the issue, but not really. Pathetic. They are shopping around an idea about loving your self/body, but then make Kelly something that isn’t even real!!!

    Diva Says:

The editor at self in lying. If they were truly impressed with kelly’s confidence, work-out figure, strength and ‘healthy-ness’ then they would not have photo-shopped her image.

i like kelly. she seems very grounded and confident, unfortunately this move on Self magazine’s part makes her seem like she vain and has succumbed to wanting to look like everyone else.

I think they took at least 50lbs on this cover. If she is fine with the way she looks then why photoshop her on the cover? I wonder if she has any say on what photos they use? Hmmmm…. I think she looks good on the cover, but it isn’t really all her, now is it?

    Jenny Says:

her body looks thin but her face looks fat. LMAO. I guess they pasted her face on another person’s body

    lakers fan in boston Says:

talk about a hypocrite, she says she’s happy with her weight yet they photshop her 2 look skinnier
i havent liked how’s she’s looked ever since her 1st yrs after AI

    Anon Says:

Kelly has the absolute worst body on this earth. Not just because she’s fat, but because she’s so unbelievably bottom heavy. There’s not enough photoshop you can do to hear to make her look good. Clearly they put her airbrushed head (because it doesn’t even look like her) on someone else’s body.

I also refuse to believe that she feels confident when she’s fat.

    Khristi Says:

There is nothing wrong with her weight-it is so unfortunate that people care more about what someone looks like as opposed to how talented they are. She definately has plenty of talent to go around. Look at someone like Britney Spears and Rihanna-they have all of the “appeal” in the world but absolutely no vocal ability to show for it and people seem to not have a problem with that. HOW SAD.

    Amanda Says:

@too bad so sad: “Star” appeal does not only have to do with the way she looks, but her attitude and her vocal abilities. Being able to belt it out like this girl does is not just a normal thing. It gives her star quality. Grow up and stop stating your opinion as a fact because there are a lot of people that do not like having words put in their mouths. We do not all know it is true because some of us do not agree with you. Get over yourself.
@sillyme: There are plenty of people that work out and eat right that are not able to get down to a weight that will make people happy. Sometimes it is just in the family genes and they really can’t do anything to drop weight, only to maintain it.
@Diva: I think it makes the magazine look bad, not Kelly. The artist doesn’t edit the photoshoot. They simple stand still and look pretty while the photographer takes their pictures. Then the magazine chooses which picture should go in and what effects to add to it. The artist has no say in the matter.
@Anon: Worst body in the world? Have you ever been to a water park? There are millions of disgustingly fat/bottom heavy people walking around those places and more than half of them look worse than Kelly. So if you think she has the worst body in the world you need to get out more.
And as for refusing to believe that she feels confident when she’s fat, don’t you think she would be taking steps to improve her body if she weren’t confident? With the money she has, why wouldn’t she be hiring a personal trainer and buying healthy food? When she has everyone criticizing her it would be hard to continue faking confidence in her body for too long. She would have eventually done something about it if the confidence weren’t genuine.
I am just as disgusted by fat people as the next person, but this girl is not that fat and it’s a bit disgusting how many people feel the need to make mean comments about her. She’s a little heavy, but she has had a curvy body from the very beginning of her career. People with curves often have a much harder time controlling their weight. I just think it’s scary that this is the way people act toward people that aren’t stick thin, especially being that Kelly makes up for what she lacks in looks in talent. How come no one has criticized Aretha Franklin?? She looks like a freaking cow and I never heard one person comment about that. Where is the difference? They’re both very talented but neither of them have perfect bodies, yet Kelly is the only one of the two that takes flak for her weight.

a brazilian pissed off FAN! Says:

1st of all I have to say I´m a huge Kelly´s fan and I love everytinhg she does, says and sings, which is the point I wanted to talk about. For god sake, SHE IS A SINGER, not a victoria secret´s freaking supermodel! so, she doesn´t have to be size 0. the only thing she needs is a good voice, and agreeing with some of you, she doesn´t have one, ´cause she has a GREAT voice! as simon cowel said once: ” she has the best voice by a mile” comparing with the others AI winners, and i totally agree with him. So come on, I dare you – envious opened mind people who has nothing to do but to talk bad things about successfull people – to listen to all of her albuns, check out some youtube videos of her just to have a clue of how gracious, super talented, hilarious, grounded girl she is!
Is better to have a so called ‘fat’ singer, who has brilliant songs and beautiful voice, to have some skiny-******* that lipsync all the time (which Kelly NEVER did) and has all that expensives programms on the comuter to change their voices that in the end doesn´t sound like with their natural at all.

    Get a life!!
