Tyra Banks Flash Mob Flaunts Real Hair

Tyra Banks and her flash mob strip down to flesh-colored body suits and toss away their weaves in New York City’s Union Square on Monday morning (August 18).

The 35-year-old talk show host will trade in her trademark weave and debut her never before seen “natural hair” on the Season 5 premiere of The Tyra Banks Show on September 8 @ 4PM ET/PT on The CW.

Tyra said, “This season on The Tyra Show we’re taking it to the next level and getting more real than ever before by encouraging women everywhere to own and rock what they’ve got and be proud! For the Season 5 premiere, I will be doing just that – no fake hair, I’m rocking my REAL hair. This will all be going down on September 8, 2009, which we’re declaring National Real Hair Day! We welcome everyone to go natural with me!”

    @mkly:

    Are you serious? You just made so many generalizations it’s ridiculous. All white people have long blonde hair, “they” all have fair skin, “they” all have blue eyes, and “they” are all white trash. That’s a pretty ridiculous statement, isn’t it? Think twice before sharing your ignorant, racist comments.

    Tyger Says:

    As a black woman, my hair is not matted, wired, wool-like, or rough. I care for my hair and all of the above do not apply. The people who made these generalizations about “black hair” must live in small town trailer park country that aren’t even on the map like “PoDunk, USA”. Obviously, they haven’t seen jack…don’t know jack. All black women have difference texture hairs that can range from thick to fine texture. Some black hair is more tightly curled than others.

    And I have seen plenty white women’s hair that looked like a bushy bird’s nest. Some of their hair also smells nasty when wet.

And we are going to 1 heaven and 1 hail/ we are all brothers and sisters!get along and make a change for the good not the bad! And for those who still want to me races let them! My mom always said you can never stop someone from talking about you! But you can give them something to stop talking about! For those who don’t get it stop replying to them and let them talk to there self and continue to pray for our nation !

    @toto:

    Im an african american and I dont have any chemicals in my hair, my hair is soft and wavy and if I blow dry my hair after washing, my hair is straight. Wigs and weaves and hairplants are worn by every race even men wore partial wigs to cover bald spots,everyone should go back in their history to see who invinted the wig and see who was the first person to wear it.. once you find the answer it would stop some of the negative comments..

    WE SHOULD NOT JUDGE ANYONE UNLESS WE ARE PERFECT..OOPS WE ARE ALL HUMAN AND NO ONE IS PERFECT. THAT MEANS WE SHOULDN’T THROW STONES. STOP BEING JEALOUS IF SHE WAS DOING BAD HER SHOW WOULD HAVE BEEN CANCLED..OOPS HER SHOW COMES ON EVERYDAY ..THAT MAKES ALL OF YOU HATERS WORTHLESS SHE IS NOT LOSING SLEEP OVER YOUR NEGATIVE COMMENTS …

    Tyra Banks needs to make peace with what she’s got, just like every other human being. As far as the silly comments about race and hair, obviously from uneducated people. I do hair for a living and every person’s hair is different. Not all Caucasian people have straight hair and not all African American people have kinky hair. If that was the case, then I wouldn’t have a job, and all of these styling products and tools wouldn’t exist. I have had to put more wigs and weaves in Caucasians hair than any other race, as well as straighten/sleek their hair etc. I have sold more straightening appliances to them as well. I’m white and I know better, it’s all in how you care for your hair. You can have frizzy hair and it doesn’t make it kinky. If you take care of your hair, then it will be shiny and healthy. The problem with most people is that they don’t take the time to find out what to use and how to care for it. i have tons of clients of color who have straight healthy hair and they don’t wear weaves or anything. They just know how to take care of it. Maybe some of you should get an education.

    BlackHair. Says:

    @public:

    Nope, that is deffienetly not true.

    Not ALL black hair is matty or nappy or whatever the hell you said.

    Almost every african american is mixed with something, Tyra banks is deffinetely not all black, and thats g oing back to slavery times when a white man raped a black woman.

    i am a caramel beauty and my hair is soft and long. i am considered black so there. dumbass.

    kilyoudead Says:

    @snowcone:

    NOT ALL BLACK HAIR IS WIREY IN TOUGH.

    i take it you’re probably white.

    so you should deffinetely know why its not tough. cause of your damned ancestor.

    i’ll admit, if there was no raping back then, then MAYBE what you’re saying is true. but black people are one of the most diverse races ever.

  10. 60
    ughhh Says:

    @snowcone:

    TO ALL YOU DUMBASSES THAT THINK BLACK WOMEN HAIR IS ALL NAPPY AND COURSE AND HARD TO MANAGE. YOU’RE WRONG.

    IM BLACK. AND MY HAIR IS SOFT AND WAVY.

    BECAUSE IM MIXED. AND IM NOT SAYING THAT’S TYRA’S HAIR, I DONT KNOW. BUT IT VERY WELL COULD BE.

    gawsh i bet everyone saying that is white. no offense, but what the hell do you know about black women hair. nothing. so how about you shut the hell up and learn some **** before you say it. kay?

    Jodi-ann Says:

    I’m 13 and im black. I am in 10th grade and black girls are straightening their hair, and though most of them are short they still have great features. And those boys dont notice them and so they are insecure and feel the need to straighten their hair. Yes, this does make the hair more natural but don’t judge those who choose to twist, lock or braid their hair. The blacks and whites both have their gifts and their lack thereof. In fact, in my experience the black girls have the most curves, and the “fair” girls who do get more privileges tend to be an “easier” pick for the boys. This is a very broad generalization. I happen to have past shoulder length hair as i am an indian, african and scottish breed. And I AM PROUD. So if you are truly so narrowminded as MKLY or TOTO i feel sorry for you as u r truly pathetic persons who have beliefs in ideas that are foolish and riduculous. Black women need to embrace themselves, and it makes me sad to see we dont.

    yolanda Says:

    @dundies:

    Get real people. Unlike your racial identity or ethnic background you cannot identity a race of people by what there hair is supposed to look like. These are ignorant racist statements. If a white woman gets a perm on her hair to make it curly (like black hair) is that not her real hair. All Black people do not have the same type of hair. I have seen white people with hair curller than mine. You have no idea what you are talking about. Are you Black? Do you have Black hair? What are your conclusions based on. I surmise that it is very hard for you to see with that sheet covering yours eyes. There is no black hair or white hair. Don’t hate.

  13. 63
    Novalinnhe Says:

    Firstly, those who used the word ‘nappy’ aren’t necessarily being racist; that might just be the only world they know to describe the afro texture with. Please stop calling people racist straight away, as it only generates more problems than there are.

    However, to those who are very -clearly- being racist – please go away. Racism is something that should’ve died a long time ago, and why it still exists I have no idea.

    The colour of your skin is exactly that. A colour. Milky white, chocolate brown, mocha, cream, straw, cappuccino – even that stunning charcoal black Alek Wek is.

    Just a colour.

    Could the moderators of this site please delete the racist comments? It reflects badly on you if they’re left here…

    KayJay Says:

    I’m 14 and I’m black. My hair is between wavy and kinky but mostly kinky, I wear my hair both straight and natural, and just because it’s straight doesn’t make it a weave. I never wore fake hair at all, my mom wouldn’t allow it, and I’m glad because my hair is healthy and beautiful natural and straight. That’s the thing about SOME white people, they run their mouths with incorrect information. Like this white lady asked my dad a few years ago was his air weave (he was wearing braids) just because you have braids doesn’t mean you wear weave either! SOME white people really need to wake up on the right side of the bed, lol! That’s like me saying all white people have hideous straight, limp, flat, dull, they have lice, and their hair has the least body in the whole world. This is not true, nobody is all the same. White people, black people, latinos, asians, whatever you are your hair will not be the same as anyones because everyone is different!! I bet the people posting this stuff are probably whtie, no offense to the whites with sense, but it’s just discusting on how low your education seems. I feel like for someone who is only a teenager I am less ignorant than you and I”m not even in high school yet, lol. But what can I say not everyone can be smart, because then who would people with sense have to teach heh? We need people of lower terrestrial stock to differ from right? Well This was angering and interesting because I just used words in my vocabulary that i forget about, lol. But hey! People of all races can be pretty ignorant. And i Love Tyra!!
