Senator Ted Kennedy Dies At Age 77

Sen. Edward M. Kennedy of Massachusetts died Tuesday night (August 25) at his home on Cape Cod after a year-long struggle with brain cancer at the age of 77.

Edward M. Kennedy, the husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle we loved so deeply, died late Tuesday night at home in Hyannis Port (Massachusetts),” the Kennedy family said in a statement early on Wednesday. “We’ve lost the irreplaceable center of our family. He loved this country and devoted his life to serving it.”

“An important chapter in our history has come to an end. Our country has lost a great leader, who picked up the torch of his fallen brothers and became the greatest United States senator of our time,” President Obama said in a written statement.

Kennedy‘s memoir, True Compass, will be published in the fall.

    Was a great man and senator to all people. RIP

    He was one of our last links to an era in which everything changed.When he spoke about civil rights,or helping people there was sincerity in his words.Im glad he got to see Obama become President. There’s much more i can say,but for now i will say R.I.P Ted Kennedy.

    Rest in peace.

    WOW i had no idea, RIP you great great man.

  • noname

    Yea the american people idolize this man – but they forget that he murdered a young woman (Mary Jo Kapeckni) by driving his car off a bridge because he had got her pregnant. I don’t understand how you can idolize someone like that! Amercians have selective memory I guess.
    I have no respect for this man whatsoever. He now has to face his maker – good luck with that Ted.

  • Kira

    R.I.P, Senator Kennedy, who worked tirelessly on behalf of the people of Massachusetts and the United States. Unfortunately, what happened on Martha’s Vineyard many years ago continues to be remembered by most of the Boomers. Also, his and Caroline Kennedy’s actions during the past election process with intentionally shaping the history of America forever (when he backed Barack Obama) thwarted the opportunity for Senator Clinton becoming the first female President of the United States of America. Without the interference of certain members of the Kennedy Family, Hillary Clinton would be in the White House today. Only the next three years will determine whether it was the correct decision though, obviously, she was spared the huge mess left behind by the cowboy administration and their hopeful “grab-the-oil” war in Iraq which has left this country in tatters.

  • Kelly

    Good Riddance Ted. Now more american women can feel safe that they won’t be groped, raped and driven off of bridges. I can’t believe you died of brain cancer. I wasn’t aware that you even had a brain. Adios dirtbag.

  • Alexanderina

    What a sad day. RIP Senator Ted. The last of the Kennedy siblings. So sad

  • Respect

    @Kelly:
    .
    Wow!
    .
    Waaay Harsh.

  • Kelly

    @Respect:

    Not way harsh, Way the TRUTH. The Kennedy’s have been laying sideways in the public trough for over 50 years. Now that they’re all gone, maybe the rest of us can get a drink of water.

    The only ones I feel sorry for are the stock holders for Jack Daniels. They will surely notice an exponential loss since Senator Dirtbag took a dirtnap.

  • Kelly

    I’d like to bury a bottle of fine 25 year old scotch with Senator Kennedy, but first, I’d like to filter it through my kidney’s and liver.

    Rest in cheap, Dirtbag.

  • noname

    I have to agree with Kelly – the Kennedy’s were a ruthless bunch and would step on anyone to get what they wanted. There wasn’t an honest one among them. There is a reason why the Kennedy clan were /are cursed. They are rotten to the core.
    Hopefully Ted will meet up with Mary Jo and she will kick his mean, murderous drunken ass to hell where he belongs.

    you camelot lovers are pathetic! this man let his mistress drown in a car while faking his own neck injury. he should have gone to prison for murder. good riddance.

  • http://theskepticalidealist.wordpress.com Idealskeptic

    RIP. Whatever happened in 1969 happened in 1969. The fact remains that Ted Kennedy did more for the average American than anyone else in recent history.

  • Nowhereman

    1. Cheat – Caught cheating at Harvard – Daddy bailed him out.
    2. Murderer – No attempt to notify authorities while a woman drowned
    3. Liar – Assassinated the character of judicial nominees on the floor of the Senate
    4. Womanizer – Cheated on every woman he married.
    5. Enabler of Rapists – Lied to police about his nephews whereabouts.
    6. Traitor – Offered to help the Soviet KGB undermine the U.S. efforts in countering military build up in eastern Europe.

    I will not mourn a man who chose to live that kind of life.

  • brownstar

    he did what? did more for this country? HE KILLED SOMEONE MORON! what if that was your mother or sister or friend? would you think the same way? the only thing he did these last 40 years was deny his mistress HER LIFE!

  • mARY jO

    I KNEW I SMELLED SOMETHING BURNING. IT IS REALLY HOT IN HELL; OR SO i HEAR.

  • sAM

    He lived longer than he deserved to. The woman he left to drown can now get her revenge.

  • lil

    He’s no better than most of the guys you can find in prison; he just has a fancier name. I hope he suffered in the end. Good riddance you murdering piece of scum. The world is a better place without you.

  • Rhonda

    This is the lion of the Democrats. He got kicked out of Harvard for cheating but his Hitler loving daddy got him back in. Then he got sloppy drunk and drove his car off a bridge and left the girl, Mary Jo, who was an aide in his office to drown and YOUR HERO, went home to bed. I admit I just don’t understand liberals and their hero’s !

    Remembered Joy

    Don’t grieve for me, for now I’m free!
    I follow the plan God laid for me.
    I saw His face, I heard His call,
    I took His hand and left it all…
    I could not stay another day,
    To love, to laugh, to work or play;
    Tasks left undone must stay that way.
    And if my parting has left a void,
    Then fill it with remembered joy.
    A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss…
    Ah yes, these things I, too, shall miss.
    My life’s been full, I’ve savoured much:
    Good times, good friends, a loved-one’s touch.
    Perhaps my time seemed all too brief—
    Don’t shorten yours with undue grief.
    Be not burdened with tears of sorrow,
    Enjoy the sunshine of the morrow.

    May Teddy RIP piece. The Kennedy’s were America’s Royalty. Any historian could tell you that most Royals do not ascend to ther thrones without a few wars or treachary. But at the end, we should look at the Kennedy’s family’s contributions to this country. The Kennedy’s represent the Greatest Generation. Whose work ethic and and industriousness built this nation after World War II only to be spoiled by the Baby Boomer generation.

    The Kennedy’s remained true to their family, true to their faith and true to their country. Too bad today’s politcally correct environment does
    not hold the importance of family, faith and patriotism in high esteem anymore.

    From MA: You will be missed dearly.

    What you have provided for the state of Massachusetts, no one will ever be able to replace. You were one of the greatest leaders and one heck of a senator.
    We weren’t ready to let you go.
    Rest in Peace, Teddy.

    Oh, so you are saying because he is a kennedy it was okay that allowed/murdered Mary Jo Kopechne drown?
    Oh so you are saying because he is a Kennedy it was okay for him to champion his nephew the rapist as innocent inspite of overwhelming evidence that William Kennedy raped the girl?
    Oh so you are saying because he is a Kennedy it was okay for him to cheat on his wife(s) constantly?

    No problem. Right? He murdered a young girl because he was a coward. He put his nephew ahead of a young girl that same nephew had brutalized. And he cheated on his wife Joan who by all accounts was a fragile person.

    Great person to admire.

  • Rhonda

    the kennedys were just a political show, JFK, was a drug addict and Bobby was screwing Jackie and Teddy left a girl to die, as his drunken ass drove off a bridge and then when home to bed. These are NOT people anyone should want to emulate.

    Notice Teddy the Lion didn’t take a pill and spare us all the expense of keeping his ass alive. Course, your granma and granpa won’t be so lucky and neither will you if you get sick.

  • AJ

    What are you smokin’? You are kidding right?

  • lalalove

    May his beautiful soul rest in peace.

    R.I.P …Kennedy’s live on.

  • disneyfan123

    He did all those things, yes. He also did remarkable things for the state of Massachusetts.

    Really? Do you guys sit at home waiting for people who may have wronged to die?! Because, by the posts of most of you, it seems like it.

    He worked so hard for the US Senate. He helped passed so many acts that have pretty much affected most Americans. We know what he has done to help the United States of America.

  • nicolas

    I am surprised that he died of a brain tumor. I would have thought that he would of died a long time ago of guilt for the murder that he pleaded guilty to with a two year suspended sentence as a result.
    Am I glad that he is dead – yes! It should have happened at leat 30 years ago. Enough said!

    I understand all the accusations, but leave cheating out of it. Whether someone cheats is none of our business and its not against the law.
    Many good people have cheated before… you know, its not always easy to stay faithful to your spouse especially since monogamy is not 100% natural. Anyway, RIP Ted!

  • Rhonda

    what are these wonderful things that ted kennedy has done? didn’t the “big dig” end up costing the people of Boston 8 BILLION DOLLARS? what did he do?

  • dabu

    @disneyfan123

    So it is okay to murder a woman, lie to protect family who has raped a woman, cheat at harvard, cheat on your wife etc. if you are going to spend your life doing good?

  • disneyfan123

    @Rhonda:

    Immigration, No Child Left Behind, Cancer, just to name a few, but MOST importantly, health care.

    Yes, Big Dig won’t be paid off until 2038 (estimation), but Ted Kennedy wasn’t the one who put the idea out there. Once it started, it was hard to just stop abruptly.

  • post watcher

    Hey people. Joseph Kennedy has been dead for many years, so I guess you should be blaming the people of Massachussetts for electing Ted, because you can’t use ANY OTHER excuse as to why he has been re-elected all these years.

    The rules of the jungle apply to humans and people have to make correct decisions and not put themselves in vulnerable situations with men they shouldn’t be alone with. Don’t sleep around with a married man and don’t pick up guys in bars just because they are rich Kennedys.

  • disneyfan123

    @dabu:

    When did I state that it is ok to do those things? Leave cheating out of this. He cheated at Harvard, but he proved himself a good man by enrolling into the Army. He was a womanizer, but do YOU personally know if there were problems in their marriage? I don’t think so. Who are you to put cheating as one of your points for argument, when you have no idea how their marriage was?
    He wronged, no doubt about it, if someone lists the things he had done throughout his life, there will be some asterisks.

    Why can’t we all see that he was also an inspirational man? He built his name as a Senate, because he worked harder than any other senator. For great political figures to praise him, it means that he rose from his downfall in an amazing manner.

  • Rhonda

    @disneyfan123:

    immigration is cured? healthcare, you mean the kind he didn’t choose for HIMSELF? no child left behind? well that’s kind of pathetic actually.

    They are going to bury this LOSER at ARLINGTON with our nations heros. Wish we could stop that!

  • brownstar

    hey disneyfan…you must be living in the magic kingdom. that slimeball killed someone and never paid the price. but libs like you are all about ends justifying the means. what a life he lived after he denied someone else theirs.

  • disneyfan123

    @Rhonda:

    You seem to like to twist my words around. I didn’t say he cured immigration. I said he helped passed that legislation. Of course he, by himself, can’t do it alone. Do you think I’m that ignorant to believe that he signed a piece of paper and, BAM, problems all gone? The answer is no.
    Health care as in universal health care, which was his goal.
    No Child Left Behind Act helps children who aren’t doing so well in school. Results have showed that there was improvement in minorities.

  • post watcher

    I love the Kennedy Camelot and so do millions of other people. You haters will NEVER EVER EVER EVER be able to destroy the Kennedy name and legacy. HA HA HA!!!!

  • disneyfan123

    @brownstar:

    Nope, no magic kingdom here. Just a person from MA.
    He didn’t call for help when Mary Jo drowned. I WON’T justify it, because I believe that it was the wrong thing to do. May she rest in peace. Ted Kennedy wasn’t the best man ever, and I’m not going to say “Oh, what a wonderful man. So amazing. blah blah blah blah blah!” But I certainly am not going to deny him of who he affected the country in a great way.

  • miapocca

    Mary Jo Kapeckni will be waiting at the gates…he probably was scared out of his mind on his death bed!!
