Brad Pitt Makes It Right At Clinton Global Initiative

Brad Pitt speaks at the Clinton Global Initiative Fifth Annual Meeting at the Sheraton Hotel on Thursday (September 24) in New York City.

The 45-year-old actor gave an update on his Make It Right Foundation, an eco-friendly organization working to re-build devastated parts of New Orleans due to Hurricane Katrina.

“I don’t know how we build any other way anywhere else,” Brad said. “We can no longer tell ourselves that implementing this technology is too complex a problem because it’s just been proven on this little spot on the map.”

    Looking good, Mr Pitt!

Wondering about Clinton, though. Is he ill? He looks “not quite there” in the pictures. Even Brad seems to be glancing his way, concerned.

I guess it’s hard to tell from just a few pics. Great honor for Brad, though, to be sitting next to a former president at an event like this. I wonder if Maddox was in the wings somewhere watching it all.

I totally do not understand people. If Brad& Ange spent their lives sun-baking,partying,going to red-carpet opening of a store or envelope every-one would complain. They TRY to make a small difference in other people’s lives and they are savaged for it. And you American’s are the worst.Did any-one else do as much for New Orleans??If not for BP I would have no idea how bad things got there.
    Give it rest,hens-
And Brad is now 45 so obviously he has grey hair and is not afraid to show them! Movie stars do age DUMBA$$’s

    Not just a pretty face

Actor Brad Pitt has been honored for his humanitarian work in New Orleans at the Clinton Global Initiative in New York on September 24th.

Seated next to Bill Clinton, Pitt was presented with a plaque from the U.S. Green Building Council which said he and his foundation ‘Make It Right’ had created the ‘largest and greenest single-family community in the world’.

‘Make It Right has exceeded my expectations. Our criteria from the beginning were at odds to say the least. We demanded that these homes be sustainable, that they have aesthetic qualities aesthetically ambitious, that they be storm resilient and take safety in mind of the families who live there and that they would be affordable. And I don’t have to explain that these are diametrically opposed ideas and none of them got along with affordability.’ Pitt said.

‘If we had not been so blissfully naive to the potential, we would not be experiencing what we are seeing today and that is the unquantifiable joy of families returning home to the 9th Ward and returning home to something that was better than before. Returning home to and setting forth a new paradigm.’

‘Thousands of people lost their homes in The 9th Ward because of the destruction caused by Hurricane Katrina. A large majority of that population have not yet returned because re-construction efforts have been slow.’ Pitt said ‘Much still needs to be done in New Orleans but the model he created could be applied to communities around the world.’

Pitt’s goal is to have 150 green homes up and ready in New Orleans by next year.

  • Elderly Pitt the chipmunk man

Clinton would probably rather have STEVE BING/ silent MIR partner (his Friend) up there instead of the “face” of MIR. the face is not good for much other than Publicity. Oh , hold up… he’s also good to make fun of.

Brad Pitt honored for humanitarian work in New Orleans

NEW YORK (Reuters Life!) – Actor Brad Pitt was honored on Thursday for his humanitarian work in helping rebuild hurricane-ravaged New Orleans at former U.S. President Bill Clinton’s philanthropic summit, the Clinton Global Initiative.

Pitt was presented with a plaque from the U.S. Green Building Council which said the actor and his foundation “Make It Right” had created the “largest and greenest single-family community in the world.”

“‘Make It Right’ has exceeded my expectations,” said Pitt who set up the foundation in 2007.

“Our criteria from the beginning were at odds, to say the least. We demanded that these homes be sustainable, that they have aesthetic qualities … that they be storm resilient and take safety in mind of the families who live there and that they would be affordable.”

“Make It Right” has created 13 homes in the New Orleans area the 9th Ward, which was devastated by Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

Each house is unique and has eco-friendly features like green roofs, which can cut heating and cooling costs dramatically.

Pitt said the biggest challenge was keeping homes affordable.

He said the average utility bill for the homes he is building is $35 a month but the goal is to bring them down to zero.

“If we had not been so blissfully naive to the potential, we would not be experiencing what we are seeing today and that is the unquantifiable joy of families returning home to the 9th Ward and returning home to something that was better than before,” said Pitt.

Thousands of people lost their homes in the 9th Ward after Hurricane Katrina flooded 80 percent of New Orleans, killing 1,500 people and causing more than $80 billion of damage.

The majority of that population has not yet returned because re-construction efforts have been slow.

Pitt said much still needs to be done in New Orleans but the model he created could be applied to communities around the world.

“What the team has done here is not so exceptional. All we did was put the right people together and answer the problems as they came along and that is why we’re here today,” he said.

Pitt’s goal is to have 150 green homes up and ready in New Orleans by next year.

It’s so refreshing to see an A list actor embracing their age. So many go under the scalpel (or injectible fillers, which seems to be the new trend), but as Cate Blanchett once said “you can always see the fear in their eyes”. There is no fear in this man’s eyes. He has achieved a level of success and happiness that no one, not even the most vile haters, can take away. Good for him! Think Jolie really did save him from a vapid and inconsequently existence. He’s doing good, and deserves much credit for his charitable endeavors. Will he get it? Probably not, but he knows he’s doing the right thing for the right reasons, and quite frankly, who else do you really have to please but yourself?

MIR is a good idea, I like that it’s helping NO, and I especially like that the buildings are environmentally friendly (I wish they were a little nicer looking though). My only gripe is that MIR doesn’t seem to be terribly efficient. I’ve been following their progress since they started, and they’ve completed less than 10% of the 150 homes they want to do. They have plenty of resources and gets loads of publicity, I wish they could just pick up the pace a little to help more people. Other groups like Habitat for Humanity have really built a lot more – even though green building takes a bit longer, this just seems like its dragging. Which would be fine if it were just any other development, but there are families STILL waiting for a home to move into.
A good idea, but needs to be better executed.

    @Elderly Pitt the chipmunk man:

You may need to check your fact. Without Brad MIR would be like every other issue presented at he CGI.. So because of Brad Pitt MIR has gotten attention around the world. And Brad has always given credit to every member of the organization.. so please STFU/

and I agree with the post that said if all Brad / Angie did were go to fashion shows, lay on a beach, went to every club and night spot, If all they did was get their pictures taken at Starbucks and such.. then the haters would be a happy as peach. They are trying to give back.. HELP make a difference. So they get trashed. MAKES NO SENSE.. but great that they don’t care.

so you freak post all the stupid comments you want. It will change NOTHING… Brad Pitt is a Good man doing Great thngs..
