This b***h bores me to death!

She looks oddly beautiful…..what’s her ethnicity?????

  4. 4
    ha Says:

she’s black and white but trying to pass for latin (in this video).

    sandra Says:

I love this song. She is so pretty!

    leona Says:

she’s back to her x-factor look; i like her better with darker hair, loved her in bleeding love video. but she is still very very pretty

    megan Says:

How is she trying to pass for Latin? How can you pass for a culture? That is the dumbest thing I have ever read. What did JLO try to pass for all those years? believe me, no one wants to pass(so stupid) for Hispanic, why would they unless they wanted to broaden their market. Shakira uses black artist to cross over and gain audience and she is half arab, don’t get me started on JLO! Hispanics are so insecure I feel sorry for them. Passing for South America! LOL!!!

  8. 8
    huh Says:

@ ha: What makes you think that she’s trying to look latin? She looks biracial and blends in with the Cubans- who have a large black/biracial population…

The song is a bit boring but the video is OK

  9. 9
    Chef de Chefs Says:

    Why would anybody punch her?

  10. 10
    huh Says:

@megan: I don’t understand your argument, do you mean that hispanics/latinas are ashamed of being hispanics/latinas?

JLO has always mentioned her latina-roots and Shakira shows great pride in both her latina and arab roots, just listen to her earlier records, she was big in Latinamerica before she became famous in the US but although she’s been collaborating with black people doesn’t necessarily mean that she wants to broaden her market, she might just like black- influenced music or want to change her musical style and work with prominent artists within those genres.

  11. 11
    Teri Says:

Oh please troll, no one cares about Shakira in the english speaking world. Hispanics cannot sing anyway. Shakira sounds like a drunk camel, X-tina is only half Hispanic and she copies Black singers all the time. The only blue-eyed soul singers are Amy Winehouse, Duffy, Joss Stone. Yeah, black and white singers are the best and always will be like Mariah and Leona and Alicia.

    olivia Says:

leona looks gorgeous in this video and this is a great song.

  13. 13
    Celia Says:

Jake Nava directed this video and he is responsible for its contents. It is obviously taking place in Cuba which has a very large African population since slavery.

  14. 14
    Roxanne Says:

JLO can mention away but she is the one who was totally into coping black music and culture, I have never seen anyone copying a Puerto Rican. Jlo with her fly girl antics on LIVING COLOR, her cornrolls, her ghetto swagger, her professed crush on Larry Fishburn, Diddy and all the rest. Just look at these artist and see who copies who. Name one, just one person in the music industry who copies the Hispanics. JLO went running back to her Puerto Rican roots when Ben dumped her and she had no more A-List men to endorse her career.

    erica Says:

She’s very beautiful and the song is lovely. She really has an outstanding voice.

  16. 16
    celia Says:

#10, which is probably what Leona is doing. Though she is still singing in English.

  17. 17
    jennifer Says:

No, leona is not trying to be Cuban. Why? Because she can actually sing. So she doesn’t need to imitate like the ones who can’t do.

  18. 18
    elle Says:

she has talent but she is so boring, her music puts me to sleep but i don’t doubt her talent she just needs a little push to make her interesting

  19. 19
    Olive Says:

Trying to look Latin? I am still rolling my eyes and snickering over that one. Firstly, how does one look like a country or culture. I only guessed that the video takes place in Cuba because the environment is poor and falling apart. The cars out-of-date. Seems to me the director was purposely trying to make her look Cuban for his own edification, as if he wants her to be. I’m sure Leona went along with whatever the director wanted.

  20. 20
    Kiley Says:

She does look beautiful and the girl has a wonderful voice. Loved the video, as well. She isn’t like most artists who have to dance around and show all their skin. She can actually sing.

  21. 21
    lexy Says:

She looks horrible. She’s unique looking but they have her trying too hard to be some sort of sex symbol but she’s not sexy. She’s cute. She’s sort of the poor man’s unattractive version of Mariah Carey. She needs a new stylist her “new look” is not working. 1st she was trying to BE Mariah, then the other pics on JJ had her in almost the exact same picture as Xtina’s album cover – ugh!

  22. 22
    Briza Says:

I wish people like number 4 would think about how stupid they sound before they write comments. You make yourself look bad.

  24. 24
    VNY Says:

WTF why has this become a race/cultural issue? Just enjoy the music people!
Anywho, I love Leona and this video is real cute.

Love this song. Think the vid could have been better. great song though

  26. 26
    chelsea Says:

for your information people if you read her biography you would know her dad is half black half latino and her mom is white. so in a way she is acting latin because she is a quarter latin.

FYI – her bigraphy that i went to is on billboard.com NOT WIKIPEDIA!

  27. 27
    Frenchy Maria Says:

She does look really beautiful, her face is perfect and she doesn’t have to strip for being sexy. Incredible voice and cute video

  28. 28
    F.Y.I Says:

No her father isn’t Latin anything! I read her book and her dad is a total black guy who immigrated to England and married a British woman. Wikipedia is full of lies and falsehoods where people write and edit anything they want. And how is she acting Latin? She is in a video filmed in Cuba where she will encounter Cuban people, that is so stupid. You people cannot sing period! Guyana is an English speaking country with an African, East indian culture and population. Latin doesn’t figure into anything in Guyana, nor is it based on anything Spanish, only British. Leona’s dad is Afro-Guyanese, but Leona was born and raised in England.

    sasha Says:

I think Leona is extremely talented, however this album she has coming out makes me think people around her are trying to turn her into a Beyonce clone. All her promo shots, like the one posted here, are exactly like Beyonce’s she’s using the same directors, same song writers, producers, etc. I think She should have her own identity. When I saw her upcoming album cover, I couldn’t tell if it was her or Beyonce.

Be yourself Leona! You’re beautiful in your own right, and frankly you have a better voice than beyonce!

  30. 30
    Amanda Says:

Leona is biracial girl of British heritage and culture. Period.

  31. 31
    Cindy Says:

@Teri: Mariah Carey IS half latina! Plus hispanics and blacks are the best singers….and yes some white singers are pretty good but because the influenced by black and latino artists. So next time get your story straight.

  32. 32
    Regina Says:

It’s a nice video. Nothing groundbreaking, though I did love the moment with the rain and the shelter. Cute! It’s a great song, too.

I hate it when people call her boring. She’s very shy, not boring. Her personality is shown through her singing. It’s quite a gift.

  33. 33
    Helena Says:

    @lexy:

Oh please, Mariah has lost it. She’s resorted to whispering in her songs because she has quite simply lost it. Leona is trying to be nobody. She is herself.

And Mariah attractive? Leona is a lot better and they don’t try to make her look like a sultry sex symbol.

What’s up with the heated race discussion, too? She is not trying to look Latin. End of!

  34. 34

Leona father is black; whatever this video is trying to prove.

    jennifer Says:

mariah Carey is not half hispanic and she denies it every chance she gets so shut up ******. Just the other day she talks about her father being brought up in Alabama and all and classifying himself as an african american. Mariah has never associated with hispanics in any way and calls herself a mixed race black woman. Born in the U.S and culturally black american. Plus Leona does not copy Mariah they have their own style and both are very talented soulful singers. You people need to stop trying to put other people in your group, especially when they don’t want to be there. Stick to shakira and jennifer lopez.

    I like this chick!

  38. 38
    Alexis Says:

People in America are so clueless when it comes to people, customs and cultures of South America. Not all countries in that part of the world is Latin in culture, customs, or in the case of Guyana and a few other countries, Spanish speaking. Great Britain and Holland holds sway and dominance culturally. Being from South America does not make you Latin/Hispanic. The Spanish speaking countries are linked by language which seems to be the only thing they have in common. Read the blog of Rosa Clemente and she will explain how this notion is a politically driven myth to corral people with a common language into the same stall. it is ridiculous. My grandmother was from Cuba, but I consider myself American of biracial heritage. Cuba is not my country or heritage, America is.

  39. 39
    marnie Says:

This is what happens when retar dos start a rant. Leona doesn’t try to copy Beyonce or Mariah, leona has her own style. There is another mixed race soul singer from Europe named Agnes Carlsson. She lives in Sweden and is part white & black like Leona and she even favors leona physically.

    kaitlyn Says:

Don’t even think about calling the people of the Falkland Island’s Latino, you will have a major war if you do. England, Ireland and Scotland are in the same geographical vicinity and they all speak English but they are not the same. Very different peoples with different customs that have to be respected on their own merits, not lumped into the same pot.

    lexy Says:

If she was in a legion of her own she wouldn’t be trying to be Christina or Beyonce or Mariah. She’d be herself. Same with Lady Gaga – we’ve already got a Madonna – so make your own identity. Leona should do the same – she’s not as attractive as Mariah or Beyonce or Xtina but she’s got a good voice (just as Gaga is talented) she needs to stop letting the label turn her into some cookie cutter wanna be and be herself.
Then again since Simon owns her a$$ I guess she does what he says.

  47. 47
    chelsea Says:

    @F.Y.I:

if you got your facts striaght you would know that her biography on billboard.com said her dad is of latin, african and british descent. SO GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT A$$HOLE! because there is nothing wrong with her being half latin. SO SUCK IT HARD B!TCH.

  48. 48
    jamie Says:

cant this girl find her own identity in the music industry, why is she trying to be the next mariah or beyonce, we already have a mariah and beyonce so she needs to be more unique. dont get me wrong i love leona and her first album but enough is enough already, BE YOURSELF LEONA! just like how lady gaga needs to stop copyng madonna.

  49. 49
    Selma Says:

No honey, from her own book, not some stupid website where people like all the time she stated what her father was and he is an African British guy. Her grandfather directly from Africa before he settled in Guyana. Latin does not come in the equation at all. None of the Guyanese people are Latin for that matter, they are Indian(India and African and British). She is not half of some Latin culture, she is British, born and raised. Thanks #35 for the photo, some of these Hispanics (puerto Ricans) are just so damn insecure no wonder Spain made them slaves and they are still suffering the consequences I see.

  50. 50
    t Says:

who freaking cares where the video was shot. im pretty sure she wasn’t ‘pretending’ to be any race… im sure the setting in cuba was a nice place to shoot. seriously people, calm down

  51. 51
    British Guiana Says:

The Guyanese people are either Indian…African…White or a combination of both but they are not by any stretch of the imagination Hispanic. My uncle is from Guyana and has never referred to himself in all of his sixty years as being Latin. His country was colonized by the British and the people there have always been English speaking and with a culture closer to other English speaking caribbean countries. Face the facts and stop getting anger about stupid stuff.

  52. 52
    Glenda Says:

Leona’s boyfriend is much better looking than the guy in the video. It seems today that all the best singers are a combination of black and white: MARIAH…ALICIA.. AND LEONA. I looked up that pretty soul singer from Sweden Agnes Carlsson and she looks like these ladies. Agnes has a powerful voice and I think we will all hear much more about her in the future.

  53. 53
    walt Says:

Whitney+Mariah=Leona! Same beautiful powerful soul filled voice. The real thing not a cheap imitation.

  54. 54
    lalalove Says:

You’d think by the end of the vid she’d be, “happy”. Ehh, the vid could have been A LOT better. But the song isn’t bad. I support her.

  55. 55
    Heather Says:

Leona talks about growing up mixed race all the time and how some stupid people teased her about it. Now I bet they are sorry.

  56. 56
    tammy Says:

Leona looks absolutely stunning as usual…all the girls that say otherwise are just plain jealous and pathatic!! She’s not trying to look cuban leona’s ethnicity is mixed race!!!!! So for all the idiots who say she is trying to portray something she isn’t, get a bloody clue!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    @ sarah #75

That is exactly what they want someone grinding on a pole or opening their legs onstage to the crowd!

What a shame! This girl appears to be a decent one with a Beautiful voice…

Just accept it and if its Stripping that you want, you know what artist to seek to get that kind of cheap entertainment!

    Semus Says:

Thanks #35 for the picture of Leona and her parents. Her father is not mixed at all he looks very African and is in fact Afro-guyanese and Leona is a perfect blend of both parents. The Guyanese people are not Hispanic/Latin, just as someone menitoned earlier, they are either East Indian or African, english speaking with their own English based culture. They are closer to the caribbean based socities colonized by the British and they are proud of it.

    leona is just stunning

  81. 81
    khristi Says:

@Teri: I have to disagree with you on the Christina trying to sound black-she’s been sounding like that since she was little. You can’t come up with a way to contrive real soul. You either have it or you don’t. And for the record, Amy Winehouse sounds horrible live-she sounds just like what she is…a drunk.

  82. 82
    cristo Says:

Christina has had black vocal coaches all of her life even when she was part of the Disney crowd. She has always tried to be a soul singer. I love Leona and think she is a fresh new sound in music. Many people accused Mariah of copying the great Minnie Ripperton when she first came out. I think Mariah and Natasha Hamilton of Atomic Kitty look like sisters, they are both black/white as well.

  83. 83
    she shall remain nameless Says:

This video is very sad…the ending was a shocker for me. Now I totally get what the real meaning behind this song is.

    Sasha Says:

    @tammy: @megan: @huh: @Olive:

I don’t understand all of these people going crazy over her portraying a Latin person; which she IS, it’s just acting… in a music video of all things, it’s not like she’s denying her true race(s) and saying shes Latin now. Any way, for all those who are still trying to find some controversy in it, this is the description of the video quoted directly from her official YouTube channel. It says the video was filmed in Cuba and that she IS portraying a Latin person. They’re not making a big deal out of it, neither should anyone else:

“The gorgeous video was filmed in Cuba by top music video director Jake Nava (Beyoncé — ‘Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)’, Kelis — ‘Milkshake’, Kylie Minogue — ‘Red Blooded Woman’) and features a sexy, latino-looking Leona watching on helplessly as she loses the love of her life! “
