Glee's Amber Riley: Just Be Happy with Who You Are!

Amber Riley, who plays the fierce student Mercedes Jones on Glee, shows off her sassy side in this photo for Life & Style.

The resident diva in Mr. Schuester’s group of Gleeks, Amber steals the show with her big voice and bigger self-confidence.

“Just be happy with who you are,” Amber says. “You’re not your dress size, you’re not your shoe size, you’re not your pants size. If I’m going to wear a name tag, it’s going to say ‘Amber Riley,’ not ‘Fat Girl’!”

Queen Latifah, Jennifer Hudson and Beyonce all inspire Amber, she says. “They’re three beautiful women who really embrace their size. They know how to dress for their shape.”

Catch Amber on Glee tonight at 9PM ET/PT on FOX!

Glee is fantastic, but seriously. Sure people need self confidence and all that, but … does anyone seriously think it’s ok to be any size. This girl is not healthy, and will suffer from heart problems. Being obese isn’t a good thing. When will people stop sending the wrong message? It’s not good to be too thin either. Everyone should eat healthily, indulge a little from time to time, and exercise regularly. Just because someone puts a positive spin on it and sounds confident doesn’t make being overweight ok. Amber is a fantastic singer. I lover her and the character she plays on Glee… but yeah. Sick of people saying ‘it’s ok to be fat, as long as you have confidence.’ That’s crap.

That is not healthy… she is obese…. celebrites that are fit and toned get bad things written about them but atleast they have discipline and take care of themselves… this girl obviously sits around all day doing nothing but eating pizza….

guys you have to realise that having a positive image is really important. im sure she knows she is unhealthy and wants to get better. but beating down her body? it would only make her depressed which causes people to gain even more weight. having a good and healthy body image is the first step to getting better and better.

trust me. been there done that.

ur on dead on !!!!!! i agree with u
we as well i am an American and lets face Americans are a little on the wobbly size so
back to what i was gonna say people need to start eating healthy and if u have confindence great but being obese is not healthy theres need to be balance
and Beyonce is not fat she is voluptious i would kill to have her body
especially those curves and that tiny waist and that booty
    so thats my rants!!!!!

  • -_-

    She’s fat : o

I know that’s rude, but I swear I think I have fat phobia! I’m not even trying to be funny. Fat people scare me! I have issues, I know that, but who’s sane anyway?

  • sowhat!

Hell, one of my co-workers died from a heart attack and he was skinny!
I don’t think she’s saying it’s okay to be obese but it’s not healthy to obsess over your size like my other co-worker who is also not fat. Just curious, what size do you people consider perfect because everyone, even with diet and exercise is not going to be a size 0/2.

  • Mirdeb

Hip, hip, hooray for Amber!! We need more strong female role models.
