OlderMary-Kate & Ashley Olsen: The Future of Fashion
Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen are super-chic at the new member induction of the Council of Fashion Designers of America in New York City on Wednesday (October 21).
That same day, Ashley took part in Glamour‘s discussion of the future of fashion at NYC’s 92nd Street Y. Ash was joined by designer Isaac Mizrahi and Washington Post writer Robin Givham. The event was moderated by Glamour‘s editor-in-chief, Cindi Leive.
Citing comfort as a priority in her dressing, 23-year-old Ashley also said she thought the success of her clothing line with Mary-Kate was due to their innovation in the market. “We were able to bring something to the consumers that didn’t exist before, which was really quality affordable clothes for young girls,” she said.
Ashley gave a preview of her new high-end line with MK, The Row, as she wore a production sample from the line and a black boucle Chanel jacket while carrying a clutch by Bally. As for what she hoped the future of fashion would be, Ash said, “More exciting!”
FYI: Mary-Kate is carrying a Judith Leiber Elephant clutch.

I don’t mind Ashley much, but Mary Kate I cannot stand. Honestly? The idea of either one of them being regarded in the same league with legitimate designers is outrageous! They are nothing but celebrities, who lend their name to costumes and labels, and Mary Kate is a straight up druggie. They both look like bag ladies and I’d never buy anything either of them was involved in. Mary Kate should donate part of her income to Matilda Ledger, who will grow up without her father.

If these two are the “future of fashion,” then we’re all in trouble. I don’t aspire to look homeless and unkempt.
I don’t think their clothes are affordable, especially for young girls, but they are icons of fashion. Their style may not be as great as it was a few back, but no matter how bad they dress now, I will always be inspired by their old outfits.
@pickles: I take it you don’t follow fashion? These girls have been praised for not following the same conventional route as ‘celebrity designers’ who only do it for the money. The Olsens are quite clearly interested in what they do. They know a lot about fashion.

I like these girls… don’t make a big scene about themselves but are clearly very passionate about what they do
I love their style !!! I Ashley- is more feminine and glam
while Mary-Kate’s is more edgy and grundge. They take their work seriously they didnt do like other celebs and just put their name on a label. “The Row” and “Elizabeth & James” are quite pricey but very well executed quality designs.
@pickles: You’re an idiot. I loved Heath Ledger, but I don’t blame Mary Kate Olsen for his death. I don’t know the girl, and neither do you, so you should shut up, and especially leave Matilda out of it.
