'Paranormal Activity' Scares Up Box Office To #1

Paranormal Activity reached #1 at the box office this weekend, raking in $22 million.

Thanks to online fan buzz, the low-budget fright film beat out new flicks Saw VI ($14.8 million), Astro Boy ($7 million) and Cirque Du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant ($6.3 million). Where the Wild Things Are dropped to the No. 3 spot with $14.4 million.

With a reported $15,000 budget, it’s become quite the horror sensation. The Blair Witch Project didn’t even make it to the top!

Really? I saw PA and was not impressed! (even the whole crowd in the theater!) Two thumbs down. Don’t believe the hype (high 5 to the marketing people)…thanx to the “crowd reactions” from youtube.

Those “crowd reactions” was probably at the end! ;)

I need to watch ZOMBIELAND!!!!

At best looks like a good start for an amateur porno.

This movie just didn’t live up to the hype for me

plus they filmed 4 different endings and the one i saw seemed to be the lamest (the police ending)

I saw the police and the theatrical ending and I thought both were OK at best. A few tense moments. I am not one of those people who instantly think gore = great horror film, but I think they could’ve done more with it.

It was hype. Ten years ago, there was a similar situation same with The Blair Witch Project, but I enjoyed that one.

Again, Jared, it’s standard practice – even on gossip blogs – to clearly indicate what is a paid advertisement and what is editorial content.

It really wasn’t scary! I’m even more pissed to find out it wasn’t real! I thought it was a documentary(with a lot of editing from the director), and come to find out it’s a freakin staged thing. It was pretty believable, the Micah guy is cute.

@Stone you got that right! All through the movie I was thinking: Are they going to start a amateur porno movie or something? The demon could join and them and they’d make a threesome!

This movie is not even scary! The only scene that gets close to being scary is the one she’s dragged out of the room by her foot….

I’m glad they are doing really well but it’s not scary. The very ending where the man is thrown at the camera is scary but it’s not what I expected at all. I’m not even sure where they got the movie people’s reaction from unless it was from the very ending.

I screamed once….it was the whole leg pulling scene..

For all the hype it was really disappointing. The build up was slow and boring and the good stuff happens in the last 15 minutes of the movie. You might like it if you wait and rent it on video. My boyfriend thought it was a little suspensful, however I didn’t think it was at all. Mostly due to the audience who were either bored and chatty, laughing at the “suspensful moments”, or giving a running commentary. The reaction shots from the previews were definitely filmed in the last ten minutes of the movie. It is nowhere near as good as people say it is and I actually found Blair Witch to be much more suspensful than this movie.

I think now that ghost/demon will sue becuae he/she didn’t get his/her cut. I found this movie funny! A little suspenseful.

I just saw this movie yesterday and practically peed my pants. It’s insane how real this came out. Definitely a gooder! I loved it.
