Ricky Gervais: Golden Globes Host!

Ricky Gervais will host the 2010 Golden Globe Awards on January 17, 2010.

The 48-year-old British funnyman is the first host the ceremony has had since 1995.

“Not only is this the biggest Hollywood celebration of the industry, which includes both film and TV, but also an environment where I feel I can get free reign as a host,” Ricky told People. “I have resisted many other offers like this, but there are just some things you don’t turn down.”

WHAT DO YOU THINK of Ricky Gervais as the host of the Golden Globes? Will you tune in??

If this guy is considered funny then I guess Whoopi Goldberg is considered sexy.

He’ll be great! I can’t wait till those moments when he says things to make the celebrities embarrassed on camera. He’s so good at that. lol

“Since when do the Globes have a host?”
Same question here.

Fabulous!!!!!!!!!! The golden globes are always soooo much better than the oscars……..they are much more deserved, I find, as the voters are international. The hollywood foreign press rarely gets it wrong, while the academy is very stuffy, snobby and it’s like a popularity contest.

With the Golden Globes, it’s all about the art.

Love love love Gervais, he will be faboosh!

He’s a good writer and far less talented as a performer.

Open his mouth like that and flies will go in there.

YES!!!! I’m SO EXCITED!! I love him! He always steals the spotlight whenever he’s on an award show. But I didn’t even know the Golden Globes had a host.

@Kate Bosselin:

Whoopi Goldberg IS sexy…what are you talking about?

Gervais is a comical genius! He says it how it is and has everybody crying with laughter. He wrote a lot of the stuff that Hugh Jackman did at the Oscars this past year and that went down a treat.

I’ll be watching this for sure!

I’m sure he’ll be fine but I think Neil Patrick Harris would be great!

He was such an idiot with his Holocaust remark.
.
Much more fitting for England where they make slightly anti-Semitic films (An Education), than America.
.
There are so many funny female comedians here in America. Why import a British guy, instead of taking an American comedian.

Am I the only sane person that doesn’t find this prat funny?

Ricky is very funny, down to earth and original and has the greatest laugh on earth. He seems to know what people want to hear about and comes up with good ideas. I’ve seen most of his videos on youtube including Extras. Also I rented the British version of The Office and watched all the episodes. This was before the American version came out. The original British actors were so imprinted in my mind that I had no desire to watch the American version. I felt as though I had seen the best already. I have watched a few episodes only of the American version. It will be wonderful to hear ricky on Golden Globes in 2010.

@Don’t like Him: You obviously A) have no sense of humor, and B) Have not seen Kate Winslett’s hilarious performance in Extras.
