Natalie Portman Speaks Out on 'Eating Animals'

Natalie Portman takes to the Huffington Post to write about how author Jonathan Safran Foer (Everything Is Illuminated) and his book Eating Animals changed her already strict vegetarian habits to go even more extreme.

Now, the 28-year-old actress writes, she’s a vegan activist: “[T]his book reminded me that some things are just wrong. Perhaps others disagree with me that animals have personalities, but the highly documented torture of animals is unacceptable, and the human cost Foer describes in his book, of which I was previously unaware, is universally compelling.”

Natalie, who has been voted the World’s Sexiest Vegetarian by PETA, refuses to wear leather or fur and is a huge animal rights advocate.

    Anybody who eats meat they have somebody else kill for them is a psychopathic douchebag utterly and completely out of touch with reality.

    I respect people who feel empowered to speak up for those who have no voice. Natalie will be insulted by many, but we few, we empowered few can make a difference. Be Veg – Whooooooo!

    @Say it like it is:
    Maybe some people should learn to spell before they shoot their mouths off and say things about people that are trying to help in this world.
    There is nothing sadder than abusing animals unless it is a person who can’t spell.

    @Say it like it is:

    Jeez, “Say it like it is”, you obviously don’t have any knowledge about the meat/dairy/egg industy, as well of animal testing if you think that that isn’t categorized as animal abuse. It is abuse of the worst kind, since many people find it acceptable, and the laws makes it legal.
    It seems that you only consider the abuse of dogs and other pets as “animal abuse”, which makes it sound like you don’t even consider the animals in the food industry and laboratories as animals, which is rather amusing. (Oh, and by the way, they use dogs and cats for animal testing too).

    So you know, vegans believe for some examples that (as it’s also been proved):
    - We don’t need meat or other animal products too live long and healthy lives
    - We don’t need to use animal skin of any sort to keep us warm and make beautiful clothes etc.
    - We need to put more money into alternatives for animal testing in medical research, they’re already working on replacing a lot of methods (also cause animal testing is not safe for humans)

    The horror, pain and stress the animals in these circumstances face every day is more than you can imagine. Why don’t you take a look at PETA’s homepage? You’re in for a surprise.. Next time you “say it like it is”, you might want to find some information before you share your opinions.
