Rihanna Hits Wonderland, Talks Assault

Rihanna sneaks out the backdoor of Wonderland nightclub in Los Angeles on Wednesday (November 4).

Earlier this morning, the 21-year-old pop sensation spoke to Good Morning America‘s Diane Sawyer about the February assault.

On being attached by Chris Brown: “That’s embarrassing that that’s the type of person that I fell in love with. So far in love. So unconditional that I went back. It’s humiliating to say this happened. To accept that? It’s a traumatizing experience.”

On admitting her she made a mistake by going back to Chris: “I stayed. I even went back after he beat me, which was wrong. But again … I’m a human being and people put me on a very unrealistic pedestal. And all these expectations, I’m not perfect… It’s completely normal to go back. It’s not right. I learned the hard way, but again, this is what I want people to know. When I realized that my selfish decision for love could result in some young girl getting killed, I could not be easy with that part. I couldn’t be held responsible for going back… Even if Chris never hit me again, who is to say that their boyfriend won’t? Who’s to say that they won’t kill these girls? These are young girls and I just didn’t realize how much of an impact I had on these girls’ lives until that happened.”

During the interview, Rihanna acknowledges that Chris held her in a headlock twice that night and bit her on the ear and fingers. In August, he was sentenced to five years of probation, six months of community service and one year of domestic violence counseling.

Rihanna‘s new album Rated R will be available in stores on Nov. 23.

  • Rihanna Fan

    its nice

  • Twilight

It’s a shame she’s 21 and looks 45. Isn’t there something she can do about her hair?

  • yep

@Rihanna Fan: Yep, it’s been ugly for weeks.

  • pr person

For once I agree with her but I suspect her answers have been carefully scripted by her pr team.

  • Strawberry

This is better than her usual shtick but I still can’t justify giving her the Glamour Woman of the Year Award. She hasn’t spoken about until now.

  • Ice

Forget Cover Girl, she could have a long career doing Rogaine commercials.

  • nala

this interview will change at least one life (if not more.) woman (and men) stay or go back to abusive relationships because of “love”…She is being honest, and anyone who’s been in an abusive situation will say the exact same thing. Once you decompress years later, it is embarrassing that you stayed for one minute.

  • socali

How do the paps always know where to find her?

  • W

I’m glad she admitted she was wrong for staying — that’s a step in the right direction…

  • W

…but what else is she going to do for this issue? They are giving her awards and she’s do no activism so far.

  • W

    ^ done

It took this chick 9 months to practice all them lies? WoW! This here is the new voice of women being in domestic situations, yeah right! She dont care for no one but her self. I could see maybe after a month or so she would have come out on behalf of actual girls and boys being in that same so called situation as her, but 9 months after the fact and with your CD popping in two weeks? No! And she has yet to visit actual shelters with people that have been in a real domestic violence situation, come on Rihanna, Stevis Wonder can see this is a free shot at publicity. Help us all, and especially those that really fall for this one here… Not a good choice or time to spread lies and she actually said F**K Love! You go girl! she will do anything to stay on top instead of having down to earth talent.. My respect level for this liar just dropped another notch and I for one thought it could go no lower but she just made it possible..

  • I n F a m o u s l y C o o l

go on perez if you’d actually like to hear it from her own mouth. this cotton candy sit doesn’t deal with the real.

  • nine

She needs to lose the Alien vs. Predator ‘do.

  • koa

omg, why didn’t she talk about WHO started the whole thing first?

  • Villa

Agree, Rihanna sounds smarter in this interview, but also agree, she was probably coached by her p.r. team. They know if she’s linked to Brown again, her career will go down the drain.

  • just say no

I wish she’s spoken out this before instead of waiting until she had a CD to promote.

  • marissa

    @pr person:

No it wasnt, if you look at the video you can tell it came from her heart. she wasnt rading off no cue cards like Chris

  • guest

She is right. Young girls DO look up to her.
I’m glad she did not cop to that “I’m not a role model” line many of her fans used.

  • koa

don’t hit people and expect they don’t hit back…….lady ri.

  • Wings

It does sound scripted. It’s like her label took a press poll and addressed all the issues that would alienate her fan base. Just in time for her new album to drop.

  • Rihanna Fan

haters go away,! u must be sad if you go on to a website about a celeb you dont like and leave bad comments..
Jelous of her talent and her great looks and her career and her money

Go talk bad about some1 else

  • Terrier

#11: because her reps tip off the paps. that’s how celebs get photographed all over the town.

  • Devon

@Rihanna Fan: What looks and talent? Girl does not look good. Her vocals are weak. I will give her mgmt credit though. They are good at marketing her.

This is not a fan site. If you only want to read positive, gushy comments, start your own blog. And drop the hater card. It’s so lame.

  • AreYouKiddingMe

What’s up with the idiots here making a point of saying she hit him first? That doesn’t matter. Who was the one knocked into unconsciousness? She was bit, slammed against the dash of the car and punched. God forbid any of you dumb a@@ posters have a daughter, sister or friend in the same situation. Unbelievable.

  • http://justjared.com Liliz

Rihanna should have gone on GMA and say the truth: that she is equally responsible for the problems in that relationship. It was both Rihanna and Chris’s fault. I really think that its unfair that he has to pay the consequences and she doesnt. The abuse was something that they both took part in.
She claims to have left him to protect young girls? I mean, WTF!!!!!!The fact that she went back could have done just that….She went back because she wanted too and when she started to get negative feedbacks she left him to protect her endorsements and career so it wouldnt be where Chris’ s career is now. Thats not being a role model…thats being selfish! I have no children but if I had daughters, they would never look up to someone like her as a role model. She need to admit her guilt in this situation and also pay…..
PS…Those seconds of “tears, so faake!!!!!!!

  • http://www.entrid.com JUSTICE

    @Liliz:
How the hell do you know her tears are fake, are you GOD ? take you head out of your a s s for a minute. The full interview is not even finished , how do you know she never took responsibility for her actions . Stop judging her and listen , if you don’t like her just don’t watch.

  • Elle

“It’s completely normal to go back”

It is NOT if you have some kind of self-respect!!! Biting her?? That guy should be in prision, not releasing a new single these days!!

  • Anonymous

    UGH!!! HATE HER SOOOO MUCH!!!!!

  • Rock and Roll

YIKES!!! Her hair is wacky. lol

  • annie

Funny how she was wearing a turtle neck dress durng the intrview, all covered up.
But normally she goes out looking like a skank.. boohoo. Crocodile tears.
She should have said, yes i did things wrong too, I made mistakes and I hit Chris too but a man should never hit a woman. Something in that order.
Great timing, the interview, now that her new album is being released.
Great PR machine behind her, gotta give her props on that

  • Alex

@Liliz: Please educate yourself on the cycle of violence and the psyche of someone who is in an abusive relationship. It is not as simple as going back because they “wanted to”. Look at pictures of her post abuse and say that she has not “paid the consequences”. Read. Don’t be ignorant.

  • what ???

just jared is being paid to promote rihanna. this site is a sham. rihanna had the chance to speak out just like she’s doing now but no instead she decided to part party party. was that counseling? now that she has an album to promote she’s all of a sudden speaking out. why is rihanna now “crying” on GMA and not when she was out in clubs. when she was partying she smiled laugh and wave now she has no choice but to speak out for the sake of her album she’s now in tears acting victim. its wrong to hit a woman but its also wrong for a woman who is a celeb to use such incident to promote themselves.
i’d rather listen to whitney’s story other than listening to this child who is only looking for pity FULL STOP

  • wala

she’s milking this soooo bad…she did SOMETHING to provoke what happened…it’s undenieably not right to put hands on her, but she said or did something…i don’t believe her…she lost ALL credibility when those nude photos surfaced…she’s just an immature, little girl who needs the publicity to sell her music

  • jane

I wounder how her next boyfriend will be. She should get together with Eminem. He’s always single.

  • Dee

It looks really fishy that she’s doing the interview now that her album is coming out. She should have done it before so that people wouldn’t think that it’s a PR thing. If what she’s saying is true, then I hope that his new album flops real big and he just vanishes into nothingness. We shouldn’t reward him hitting a woman by buying his album and making him successful.

  • jt

@28, ghetto cu..nts like you and rihanna deserve a beating or two. you don’t lay hands on no body, no matter guys or gals.
you smack your guy and then saying I’m just a girl. what a disgrace! unbelievable, you!

  • enoughalready

I’m still in shock over this girl, 9 months after that fact, I repeat, 9 months after the fact and all this just to sale her CD, that’s low.

Do you know how many people have been beaten in that span of time? No! Do you really care? Hell No! Rihanna, Rihanna, Rihanna. So disappointing! Again! 9 months after the fact!

Chris see this is what you get when you dont listen to Momma..

  • haha

just jared since you are being paid to promote rihanna why not post the video with rihanna telling fans to tune in on the internet to watch her perform live all the songs on her new album?

then people say she is really sorry about what happen. believe it or not the girl is promoting her dead stupid album

  • msblknasty1

she is adorable….. great job rhi rhi you dont hafta worry about chris buser anymore …. lolol GO RHI RHI ….lolol

  • wow

Go Rihanna! She is embarrassed of Chris Brown. Chris is a pos

  • wow

@Dee: so what? she has an album to promote of course that’s the number 1 topic the media will answer. it’s better to just get it out of the way now so she can go on prmoting her album. Plus, why would she come out right after it happened? she was still trying to protect him back then. She is doing the right thing IMO. She is not the one that beat a face in and bit someone’s ear.

  • refresh

    @haha:

You’re rude .. to say it’s just promotion !! .. I feel that interview is just the recap of what happened and the album is just the beginning of something completely different !! .. It can’t do better !! ..

  • omg!!

girl what are you wearing ?? i wonder what the people who saw her thought ?

  • “DUMMY ALERT”…..!

“WOW! SO TOUCHING”!!!!….. LIKE HELL IT IS!….. SHE JUST NEEDS OUR SYMPATHY SO WE CAN BUY HER “SUCKY SUCK” ALBUM!…… WHICH HASN’T HAD ANY HITS!!!!!…. PLEASE RIR TELL IT TO SUCKERS WHO GIVE A DAMN!!!” I MEAN WHY NOW WHEN HER CD IS COMING OUT?????? EMBARASSED MY ASS!!!!! YOU SHOULD BE EMBARASSED FOR SELLING US YOUR SOPPY STORY JUST SO WE CAN BUY YOUR ALBUM!!!!!”

  • Ronda

The portion of the interview that I saw touched me. Her emotion and honesty struck me as totally unscripted and from the heart.

I like how she handled herself. Stay strong Rihanna.
