Actress Gabourey Sidibe struts her stuff at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Inaugural Governors Awards at L.A.’s Hollywood & Highland Center on Saturday (November 14).
The 26-year-old Precious starlet attended the ceremony, where honorary Oscars were given out, and rubbed elbows with celebs, some of whom dished out advice to the potential Oscar contender.
Tom Hanks, who told Gabby he loved her performance in Precious, told her, “Just enjoy the ride, pretend it’s like a homecoming dance every night, and get some comfortable shoes.”

i saw this movie and she was astounding. yes, this is proof that here is an overweight girl who is not a supermodel but she went from being a college student and receptionist to being a potential oscar contender. life is not about looks, it is about what you do with your life. at a young age, despite her weight, she has clearly made something of herself. this should be an inspiration to girls everywhere. go out there and follow your dreams no matter what you look like! this movie was wonderful!

I agree with fellow posters that Ashley and Carey are what’s wrong with many people in this country; they are far too ignorant for their own good. With that aside, I think Gabby looks good. Her beautiful personality shows through in this pictures, even if her dress could have been better. I still think she did an amazing job in her movie. And if the likes of Tom Hanks is agreeing, then we know she has a lot more going for the Megan Fox types of the world, who are only an attractive face, but talentless.

As a white person myself, one thing I have noticed about women of color is their confidence in themselves. They wear what they want and have this happy and bubbly outlook. I so wish I could be that way and I do admire them for that. It goes to say that no matter what anyone else thinks, just do what makes yourself pleased.

She is beautiful. Aside from any weight or health issues she might have (and really is that our business), it’s clear that she is a confident, well-spoken, and incredibly talented person. More so than you hateful commenters will ever be.
