Jessica Biel Reaches Mount Kilimanjaro Summit!

Jessica Biel and the Summit On The Summit expedition group have reached the Uhuru Peak of Mount Kilimanjaro!

The 27-year-old actress, joined by Lupe Fiasco, Kenna, Isabel Lucas and Emile Hirsch, reached the summit today at 19,340 feet around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday (January 12), according to People.

Jess and her fellow climbers posed with a sign reading “Send Water” – the group climbed the mountain to raise awareness of the planet’s water crisis.

“The thrill of conquering your fears, especially in such a physically and mentally taxing environment, can’t really be done justice in words,” Lupe said.

FYI: Jessica, Lupe, Isabel and Emile were all outfitted by Eddie Bauer/First Ascent: Front Point Jacket (hard shell), BC-1OO jacket (for rain), DownLight Sweater (down) and Pack.

Jessica Biel and the others really did something spectacular. The global water crisis is really serious, and we should all take their example and try to help out people in developing countries. If you want to read more about the climb and what they have in store now that they’ve reached the top, check out this article:

There are ways of increasing awareness without spending exorbitant wads of cash on an exotic vacation, which of course includes hotels, restaurants , 1st class flights, private climbing guides, climbing gear, a personal trainer to prepare you for the climb, and all else that is involved. I think # 4 said it right.

  • brightside

@nancy: That’s really creepy, you’ve officially creeped me out posting that but I hope you’re having a nice death somewhere anyway!

  • Marcus Bluette

It’s not a very taxing environment if some of the hikers aren’t wearing gloves on the summit and no one has on a helmet or harness. It’s just a cold walk-up.

  • crocope

wow… they must be in GREAT shape!! This is so hard.
even in wikipedia it says that though most young, fit people can make the Uhuru summit, a substantial number of trekkers will abandon the attempt at a lower altitude.

  • me me me

like #23 noticed, that descent is basically trekking not climbing, so they didn’t need crampons, axes etc., and i doubt the celebs were heavily loaded. still that’s a respectful altitude, especially for amateurs (everything over 5800 meters is considered extreme).

  • yo sista

    @L.L.: lol, ikr? who cares?

  • tinsky

i know it’s for a good cause & all but there are other ways to create awareness without doing something this extreme…. and jessica, this doesn’t add points for you in my book. can you just stay there & never go down?

she’s a nobody, i cant even tell who she is
and i heard her and JT broke up again, yawn even their breakups r boring now

  • dabu

I cannot believe how mean some of you are. This is a cause she has gotten behind and a way to publicize the cause. I’d like to see some of you haters get off your fat as*ses and go through the grueling training necessary to do this. This isn’t something where she woke up and said “Gee I’m going to climb a mountain today.” She had to train and train and train for this in order not to be a weak team member which in turn would put the rest of the team in jeopardy–life threatening jeopardy. Whether you like her or not, this is a tremendous personal accomplishment as well as a good way to do something for a cause she believes in.

Well done Jessica and all her fellow climbers. I tried back in 1982 with a large group, and only a few got to the top. The rest of us reached over 17,000 feet, but had to give up because of extreme altitude sickness. People don’t realize just how hard that is and how dangerous it can be. So I congratulate Jessica and the entire group.

  • Elisabeth Bobynskyj

Well done Jessica and company. It’s not easy even if you don’t have to use crampons. It’s the altitude sickness that gets you. I tried with a large group back in 1982 and only a few of the men reached the top. Altitude sickness is awful and can be life threatening.
