Gabourey Sidibe Covers 'V' Magazine Issue #63

Precious starlet Gabourey Sidibe puts her best face forward on the cover of V magazine’s issue #63.

“Growing up, there weren’t a lot of actresses and singers who looked like me,” the 26-year-old actress told V. “There were no real times that I thought maybe I can do it, until Mo’Nique came along. She’s a plus-sized woman who didn’t care about one day being skinny.”

“All my life I’ve been hearing that I’ll never amount to anything until I am skinny,” Gabby said. “And she disproved everything that everyone has ever told me.”

Gabby shares a double-cover with Dakota Fanning on V‘s newest issue – on newsstands today!

if sofia vergara is called – “viāgra”.. gabourey sidibe should be called the ‘anti-viāgra’. ahahahahahahahaha.. she’s the opposite of viāgra. ahahahahahaha..

There we have it – proof that, no matter what the camera angle, fat is just not visually appealing. She does not look good, or sexy, or attractive at any angle. She just looks fat.

    StAr** Says:

This is telling people that obesity is ok, and that women should be happy even if they way over weight. ITS WRONG and unhealthy!

I’m sorry but the movie wasn’t that good. Monique gave the best performance hands down. this girl? meh.

    Ilia Says:

Let’s hope she survives the impending cardiac arrest. This woman is not healthy. Just like it is immoral and inappropriate to promote anorexia same exact standards apply to obesity. This woman looks like an elephant and probably weighs as much as one too. There is no such thing as “big and beautiful”. Fat is not attractive and is extremely unhealthy.

    Jane Says:

It’s great that she feels positive within herself, but that’s not going to do her any favours when she collapses with a heart attack or loses her legs to type 2 Diabetes. I dont care how happy she says she is, the physical strain she MUST feel at times cant feel great.

    kika12 Says:

i know that alot of people say that we are going of one extreme to another but for hollywood accepted plus-size women is a great step i know is not healthy to have that weight but is not easy for people with that weight to lose it they need to feel accepted by society not rejected.

and yes people should be happy even in they have overweight then they can make changes to became healthy and even thought is unhealthy some people have the genes to become obese she can lose eight but she would never be a size 3 or 5 .i think we shoul be less critics i am sure she have to fight hard to to get where she is.

    Jokergurl Says:

I am sorry but this gal does NOT look healthy, she’s obese, this is not a good message to be sending, it’s not okay to be pin thin, but it’s not okay to be obese either. Just why? Your joints, your heart, everything suffers when you look like this. I’m seriously surprised that a fashion forward mag would put this woman on the cover.

I can’t stand women who say “Oh you should love the skin you’re in” blah blah blah its a broken record and its sending BAD messages. Yes, its not healthy to be super skinny. But its just as bad to be this overweight.
There is a massive difference between being curvacious and being dangerously overweight.
She is basically sending a message like its okay to be fat. Sorry, its not. Everyone in the western world has assess to healthy stuff and exercise. So don’t promote obesity as if its okay because its dangerous and disgusting!!

@Prettigurlz: What on earth is rude about saying that fat is an unappealing look. I don’t hate her, I just wouldn’t want to look at her, or look like her. I’m happy being a very healthy size 4 thank you, with no obesity related health issues.

    @ummmmmmmmm:

got to agree there. it is great to see an actress that isn’t killing herself to be skinny but she’s still killing herself by being fat. or rather obese. the entire medical community will agree.

it is sad to think that this young woman might not be around to share her gift because she reckless disregards the health issues her weight is very likely to cause and therefore does nothing about them.

    ? Says:

This girl is an amazing actress but I agree completely on the obesity issue. If we are all able to criticise models for being too thin like wise Gabourey Sidibe should really be more concerned about her health.

  32. 32
    brightside Says:

@What?: And no one is meant to be fat! Being fat isn’t an natural state for the human form, it puts pressure on the joints, the heart (which becomes grossly enlarged), the lungs, the immune system and so on. Humans are not designed to be the size of baby whales. It’s so unnatural.

  33. 33
    happy girl Says:

she is great and i like her and glad she is standing up for being herself. i do agree she can be a healthier weight of maybe 50 less pounds. she should never have to be skinny but healthy like mo’nique is now. plus size but healthy. stil love her performance though. hopes she gets the globe.

    bobbi Says:

While I agree that the extra weight puts more strain on your heart, thin people or people of average build also drop dead from myocardial infarct.

Genetics plays a key role in heart disease. Young teens, children, athletes (people who you’d never think) drop dead from heart attacks. While some grossly overweight people live healthy lives well into their 80s.

Is this the norm? No. But she could very well be one of those exceptions.

Just putting this out there because I all Ive seen on here is fat = unhealthy.

are you high? that’s like saying some smokers live long and without cancer.
first off, this lady is not just fat. she’s obese. 100% of the doctors will tell their obese patients to lose weight because it’s UNHEALTHY!

  40. 40
    lala Says:

Not attractive at all. Enough with the ‘oh just because she’s fat it doesn’t mean she isn’t pretty’. Come on, we know that’s not true, if being too skinny doesn’t look good, being obese certainly isn’t better and people should stop hating on the skinny ones and complimenting every obese woman that appears on a magazine if you want to break the stereotypes that’s not the best way.

  41. 41
    Sammy Says:

For once, I agree with most of the other people commenting – being this fat is NOT something girls should aspire to, it’s extremely unhealthy and can only have negative consequences on Gabourey’s long-term well being. I haven’t seen Precious, but have heard great things about it and will seek it out when it comes to my country – she sounds like a great actress, and I hope that she drops enough weight to become a healthier size.

She actually looks amazing on those shots. I’m proud of her, I hope she wins at least the Globe this sunday. But I also have to agree with those who said that the woman needs to lose weight.
I’m not trying to say that she has to become a skinny starlet, but she simply needs to lose a few pounds so she can be healthy. Other than that, she seems like a sweet and smart girl, and I’m totally happy to see her on the big screen. Proud of you sista :)

    rrr Says:

i agree with most of the comments… people like j lo or jessica simpson can say the things this girl is saying..they look healthy, curvacious etc…
and the cover shot is pretty unflattering

That is not a flattering angle for her.
    The poor girl.

  50. 50
    Jenna Says:

This is such a strange and unflattering angle. :|
I think it could have been a lot better if the shot was more head on and perhaps angled better.

  51. 51
    J Says:

I agree that you shouldn’t have to be skinny to be successful and good for her for doing well with her movie but she is majorly obese. Its not healthy and puts out a bad message saying that its ok to be like that. And I would honestly rather see a skinny or ‘normal’ sized woman on a magazine cover then someone of her size, I look at the cover and I think it looks horrible. It actually makes me feel sick!

  52. 52
    coco Says:

She has a pretty face. I still am impressed with her performance in Precious even though I saw the movie a while ago. She was so real and raw especially for a 1st time actress. I do think she needs to lose weight to get more acting opportunities because there are only so many parts for girls her size – so that could motivate her. Hollywood is very competitive too.

  53. 53
    brightside Says:

I would admire her more if she came out and said that it’s not healthy to be obese and, through example, showed the way forward in losing weight. Instead she seems to be in self denial. No one is saying she should become anorexic – but she must be 200+. My friend, who is half her size, has been told to lose weight by her doctor because she is creeping from the overweight catagory and into the obese.

    brightside Says:

Romania is now thinking of a levy on sugary, fatty and unhealthy foods. Taxing fattening food in order to keep people healthy is a great idea – those of us who don’t eat them won’t be affected and those who do would be forced to eat less of them and opt for healthier, cheaper choices – fruit is good – and the government will be able to put more money into fighting America’s crippling obesity problem. There’s no downside!

  56. 56
    Lydia Says:

I’m laughing at all the “obese = unhealthy!” comments, because I’m obese, have 5.4 A1c, Total cholesterol of 187, LDL 63, HDL 93, Triglycerides 114, Blood pressure averages 120/80 (optimal numbers ALL, TYVM! Just had bloodwork done 2 weeks ago.). I get exercise everyday, eat what I want, and just enjoy life.

Everything needn’t be about weight – changing one’s mental outlook to a healthier state is the important thing. I was unhealthy 5 years ago, but even with all the changes I made to get my numbers down as they have been the past 3 years? I’ve lost a TOTAL of 40 pounds. That’s it. A good portion of that was water, as salt was my weakness. XD No longer!

Learn to accept that only a *very few people* are meant to be size 0 – most fall in the 8 – 16 range, and some like me, even higher. Yet, we’re healthy. :p

    @ummmmmmmmm:

Sorry, but you cannot tell whether or not someone is HEALTHY based upon their weight. There are many slim unhealthy people and fat healthy people. It’s simply narrow minded and foolish to think otherwise.
