Gabourey Sidibe Covers 'V' Magazine Issue #63

Precious starlet Gabourey Sidibe puts her best face forward on the cover of V magazine’s issue #63.

“Growing up, there weren’t a lot of actresses and singers who looked like me,” the 26-year-old actress told V. “There were no real times that I thought maybe I can do it, until Mo’Nique came along. She’s a plus-sized woman who didn’t care about one day being skinny.”

“All my life I’ve been hearing that I’ll never amount to anything until I am skinny,” Gabby said. “And she disproved everything that everyone has ever told me.”

Gabby shares a double-cover with Dakota Fanning on V‘s newest issue – on newsstands today!

I agree that you shouldn’t have to be skinny to be successful and good for her for doing well with her movie but she is majorly obese. Its not healthy and puts out a bad message saying that its ok to be like that. And I would honestly rather see a skinny or ‘normal’ sized woman on a magazine cover then someone of her size, I look at the cover and I think it looks horrible. It actually makes me feel sick!

She has a pretty face. I still am impressed with her performance in Precious even though I saw the movie a while ago. She was so real and raw especially for a 1st time actress. I do think she needs to lose weight to get more acting opportunities because there are only so many parts for girls her size – so that could motivate her. Hollywood is very competitive too.

I would admire her more if she came out and said that it’s not healthy to be obese and, through example, showed the way forward in losing weight. Instead she seems to be in self denial. No one is saying she should become anorexic – but she must be 200+. My friend, who is half her size, has been told to lose weight by her doctor because she is creeping from the overweight catagory and into the obese.

Romania is now thinking of a levy on sugary, fatty and unhealthy foods. Taxing fattening food in order to keep people healthy is a great idea – those of us who don’t eat them won’t be affected and those who do would be forced to eat less of them and opt for healthier, cheaper choices – fruit is good – and the government will be able to put more money into fighting America’s crippling obesity problem. There’s no downside!

I’m laughing at all the “obese = unhealthy!” comments, because I’m obese, have 5.4 A1c, Total cholesterol of 187, LDL 63, HDL 93, Triglycerides 114, Blood pressure averages 120/80 (optimal numbers ALL, TYVM! Just had bloodwork done 2 weeks ago.). I get exercise everyday, eat what I want, and just enjoy life.

Everything needn’t be about weight – changing one’s mental outlook to a healthier state is the important thing. I was unhealthy 5 years ago, but even with all the changes I made to get my numbers down as they have been the past 3 years? I’ve lost a TOTAL of 40 pounds. That’s it. A good portion of that was water, as salt was my weakness. XD No longer!

Learn to accept that only a *very few people* are meant to be size 0 – most fall in the 8 – 16 range, and some like me, even higher. Yet, we’re healthy. :p

aesthetics are subjective. just because you don’t think something or someone is attractive doesn’t mean they aren’t.

Sorry, but you cannot tell whether or not someone is HEALTHY based upon their weight. There are many slim unhealthy people and fat healthy people. It’s simply narrow minded and foolish to think otherwise.
