I like her, she was absolutely wonderful in Precious. If there were any justice, she would win for her fantastic performance. And she looks really good here.

Have you seen Precious? If not, then I can somewhat understand your ignorance…on second thought, not really.

  • yo sista

@ivanka: she’s ridicilously talented! she CAN act!!!!

  • becky

    Love you Gabby Girl!

  • bajan

  • Ilia

This b**ch can not act, same exact sentiment applies to her costar who just won the award in the supporting actress category. What a farce. Julianne Moore deserved the award, f**k this s**t.

  • Tealeaf

I don’t like her dress, too bad it got wet

  • brightside

@bajan: But lose weight too – be the best yes, but it’s important to look after your health too and being so overweight isn’t that healthy. Also if she lost a few pounds she would be even more confident.

  • mimi

The irony is that Gabourey has had the opposite kind of life than Precious. But there’s perception that dark-skinned, fat, African American women are all suffering horrible abuse and dispair. So untrue. Sure, there is poverty, abuse, but there are a lot of just plain ordinary blacks living their lives to the best of their ability. And movies like Precious perpetuate this stereotype ad nauseum. I like that Gabourey has a great attitude. She seems genuinely nice and it’s important that we recognize that human beings come in all sizes, shapes and colors. However, as someone who thinks that obesity has gotten out of hand in America and by that I’m talking about people who tip the scales over 200lbs, don’t exercise and have a poor diet, Gabourey is NOT a role model. The lesson in her success is more about the importance of having a good attitude no matter what you look like or what ethnicity you are. There are enough people with bad attitudes around. That’s what people should take away, not that a fat person can be a star. Try to lose weight, exercise and be healthy. And have a good attitude. Her dress getting wet was unfortunate. Why wasn’t someone looking out for her? Where is her manager and PR people?

  • yo sista

    @Ilia: shut up b!tch

  • dragonfly

I get the whole ” I am big and proud” and all that jazz but promoting obesity is just as bad as promoting thinness. This girl is not healthy. She is more at risk serious illness than your skinny “bobble head” actress. The sad truth is this girl got the part because she looked the part. The movie found her. She was great (not award worthy though) but I don’t see her going far in Hollywood. No one will cast her as a lead. She will get the stereotypical roles that cast her only because of her weight. I see her only as a one hit wonder

  • Myra

I agree, where are the people that should be helping her, like her PR, etc. Many of the other stars dresses were not even that wet.

  • dani

It is really a shame that someone didn’t help her so that her dress remained dry. She is new to Hollywood, new to the red carpet, and someone should have been guiding or helping her out here.

  • LuckyL

Poor girl can’t get a break. No one helped the new girl? Well that’s Hollywood for you. Fake plastic b*tches.

  • Just Stop

    hope she wins.

  • nursedatingsite

    I love her body

  • Leila

okay – all you insecure obese people are trying to make THIS normal and accepted! Okay – let’s see what kind of roles she will get next! Another precious and another mamie! She is not attractive, cannot act, is not even african AMERICAN and she has no personality to take your attention of her greasy face and fat body! Watch and see how many precious roles she will play next. Do you think she really has self-esteem when she looks naked in the mirror? Do you really think she can sleep flat on her back without choking? Hollywood continues to make a mockery and stereotypes of Black people. We cannot have a 100% african american beautiful and glamorous leading lady! we have fat jennifer hudson, fat precious, fat monique, fat and crispy actresses and it will stay that way. this is for the world to associate the image of black people in hollywood to real life. that sidibe is a one hit wonder that hollywood is laughing at behind closed doors! LOL

EVERYONE had wet dresses from the rain! Gabby wasn’t the only one. And I am SO SICK of people trying to dictate the weight of others, claiming concern for their health. BULL! I am in my 50′s and 5’7″ and 135lbs. I have never had an issue with weight. But I think its ridiculous when people claim they’re dictating what others should weigh becaue of “health issues.” It’s ONLY BECAUSE THEY DON’T LIKE TO SEE FAT PEOPLE.

  • Evie Smith

Gabby deserved to win Best Actress. Even Sandra knew that.

  • Dorie

It’s gratifying that a thread about an obese person hasn’t generated the kind of hate that seems to surround non-obese, but not exactly willowy entertainers such as Jessica Simpson and Kelly Clarkson. Or check out the item a couple weeks ago about plus size models in V magazine. Now that one really brought out some world class haters! Our entire nation was brought to task for being fat AND stupid. So why can’t people be appreciated for the gifts they have to offer society without being attacked over appearance issues? And don’t try to convice me it’s because of concern about people’s health. The venom displayed by some of these fat phobes would indicate they don’t give a rat’s a$$ about anyone’s welfare. Who has ever changed their mind or their life style as a result of being insulted? (I’m not directing this at any post on this thread. I think people are being pretty civil here).

  • Evie Smith

Leila sounds like she is a very jealous woman. Probably a wanna be who was rejected too many times because she has no talent. Gabby is a rare bird who has natural talent. She’s already won some awards, and it’s only her first picture. She has already finished her second film. She never set out to be an actress. Three years ago she was in college, and was a receptionist. She studied to be a psychologist. Leila, maybe if you would be as positive and loving as Gabby, you might have some good gifts raining down on you too!!!! But you SPEW THE HATE about body weight, and blackness…POOR YOU!!!!

  • Naomi

    Shes adorable!

  • WOW

Beautiful. Wish she would win. She was alot better than Sandra in The Blind Side.

  • Towana

Her hem is too long, I wonder if she brought that dress off the rack, she should have took it to have it tailored/fitted to her body.

She’s so cute but carrying all that extra weight is not healthy for her and can put her at risk for many diseases like diabetes, heart problems, etc. Drop the weight, sweetie. Not just for your looks but for your health. Your a beautiful girl.

  • georgette

My grandma has the same dress!

  • Lex

Enough about the weight already, can’t talk about that every week, it’s not like she’s going to shrink to a normal size overnight.
I actually feel sorry for her this time.
That dress isn’t so bad, far better than what she usually wears.
Because of the rain, she looks like a mess.

  • buddymcphee

Make here go away….please make her go away! She’ll be irrelevant next award season!!!

  • Dr NYC

All we can do is pray for her.
