Mariska Hargitay Covers 'More' Magazine February 2010

Mariska Hargitay flirts with the camera on the cover of More magazine’s February issue!

The 45-year-old Law & Order: SVU actress opened up about her show’s new time slot, stressing about money and handling tough Hollywood rejection:

On SVU‘s new 9 p.m. timeslot to make room for Leno: “It ruined our numbers. The first four episodes, we were considerably down because nobody knew when the show was on. Finally, we’re starting to find our audience again. I hope we go back to where we belong. It was doing so well. Why mess with it?”

On stressing about money: “I constantly worry about money. I make a lot now, but I don’t feel that way, because I was poor and had no money for a lot longer than I’ve had it. As an actor, if this show ends next year, then what? As an aging woman, then what? I’m saving money to live on, for the future. There are not that many roles for women, and I’ve been blessed with one of the great ones.”

On dealing with rejection in Hollywood: “A guy at ABC told me to change my name and get a nose job. I said, ‘You get a nose job.’”

Mariska is beautiful and talented. I’m glad she has had such success.
She persevered inspite of the negative feedback which would have destroyed lesser women.

  • Inaru

I love Mariska, she is a fine actress and such a likeable, natural personality that doesn’t come off as fake. But i don’t want to hear a celebrity telling me how poor they were growing up because it is not true. If you had enough to eat, a roof over your head, clothes and shoes even if nothing was luxurious then you are not poor. Poor children are those who lack the basics and the opportunities to make their situation better, now that’s poor.

  • xoxo

she makes $350 000 an episode for crying out loud!! saving away for the future in case something happens…put away one paycheck you and you could have a comfortable retirement you idiot!!!! i hate it when celebs complain about money…this woman has millions!!!

  • Pat

I love her, she is a great actress! L&O is amazing.
    F*ck Leno .

  • ohboy

Im totally with you # 3. I like her but damn. I hate when celeb talk about their money issues. She makes like 5 million a year and she’s complaining about not having enough money to live on. Give me a break.

  • Gyurii

Mariska Hargitay?? :O Has she Hungarian parent? Oo

  • FrESH

God she’s annoying. People are living basically on nothing, especially in this economy and this bitc.h is complaining about not having enough when we all know she makes millions every season. Suck it Hargitay!

  • babyboo

-her mom was film star Jayne Mansfield, and she did when Mariska was just a baby so I can see how she possibly had to grow up more than people realize. With that said, she is a really fine actress and I think she could get roles in other things on television if something did happen to law and order…

  • babyboo

sorry meant to say her mother died***

  • babyboo

  • Salétromsav

I get it, but the “Hargitay” is absolutely a Hungarian first-name. I read about it, and her father is from Hungary, so now I know, why she has got a Hungarian name. BTW, I’ve never heard about her, unfortunately, she is not so famous in our country.

  • Ali

Ridiculously stupid woman. Save your money, lady. Invest it wisely. You’ll have enough. Too many people are out of work and cannot find jobs for this kind of drivel to be printed.

  • Whoever

Love her! Pretty lady… get it from her mom

  • Sam

Sure she makes a ton of money, but she also has her own foundation and a family to provide for. If she doesn’t save, her money will disappear quickly…like many celebs who spend their money recklessly and do not think about the future.

She’s beautiful inside and out…and seems like a truly genuine person.

  • Sam

Also I’m sure when she said she was “poor”..she was referring to life after she moved out of her father’s home and out on her own. She struggled for many years to find acting gigs and had many different shows get canceled. I remember her mentioning she moved into a dump when she first got to NYC when she started SVU.

  • Bellie

Honestly how insulting when she earns millions a year to be talking about money problems! If she saved hard for a year her family could live off it for the REST OF THEIR LIVES.

    So annoying.

  • Naima

I love this woman, she’s a class act. And as far as her money comments, you guys are taking it a bit too seriously. If you pay attention to what she’s saying, its not that bad, I get what she’s trying to say. It may seem like she’s coming off ungrateful but I think she’s just expressing a natural fear that has stayed with her even in these times where she can afford things.

Horse faced and ultimate cheapo Sarah Jessica Parker is known to be one of the most frugal and paranoid with her money. I’ve heard stories about her leaving less than 5% tips for people when the minimum is usually between 15-25%.

  • Grace

So celebrities aren’t allowed to say they’re nervous about money now? I think every single person in America should be nervous, regardless of how much they make. You never know when it’s all going to go down the drain.

  • ++Logan++

    absolutely love this woman

  • Lillianne

It probably would have sounded better if she said she knows she’s incredibly blessed but she’s still being careful about money. I mean seriously, $35,000 would solve my life’s problems right now.

  • christianslovematch

I thought her mom was rich

  • British Latin American

    Haters are always so dumb.

  • Lillianne

What I said is incredibly insensitive. There are people in Haiti who don’t even have 35 cents. I’ll just say I’m grateful for my blessings.

  • Nicole

She’s not so much as complaining about how much she is making. We all know…even Mariska, that she makes more than most of us….but she’s saying as she is getting older, there are not going to be as much good paying jobs for a 46 year old whereas there would be plenty for a 22-35. Don’t get me wrong, I still think she’s gorgeous as when she was back in her 20′s but she is a realist and knows that she’s probably not going to find another show like SVU for a lot of reasons. I give her props for saving her money wisely unlike some celebs who waste it on partying every night. She uses and saves her money wisely.

  • Marieme

Mariska and Sandra Bullock as sisters: Someone needs to write that movie asap!

  • Jokergurl

It’s no secret why she’s aging well, she’s the daughter of Jayne Mansfield and a Hungarian body builder, yeah it’s in her genes folks. She’s a talented actress and lovely too.

  • oy

Class act. Does a lot for charity. One of the few actresses who doesn’t stoop to skanky acts to advance their career.

  • marriage-matchmaker

    She is so pretty

  • lakers fan in boston

i really like her, she’s always truthful =]
honestly ive gotten really bored of cop dramas so ive stopped watching most of them, i use 2 love svu tho
nice cover, such a great smile

God of Heaven, people do not know how to interpret what Mariska speaks. That woman’s the most humble, most authentic heartfelt I’ve ever seen. Speaks of his inquitações, their fears, so naturally. And she is saying that it was poor compared with the life she led before. Mariska Glad to see that there are celebrities like you that is a normal person, generous (to see what she does for others). MARISKA YES YOU, IS A TRULY BEAUTIFUL WOMEN HEAD TO PÉS.ESSA ACTRESS AND SHE IS A MODEL WOMAN TO ME.

  • Gustavo

Mariska Hargitay in addition to being a beautiful and talented woman is very sensible and intelligent. I read your interview and understand your concern for their professional future and financial stability. Good luck to her and her show and she has another child, preferably a girl who inherits the talent and beauty of the mother.

  • T Shirts

What an a-hole! With the money she’s now making, she should be able to support herself and future generations for hundreds of years. Or does she have a crack problem I don’t know about?

  • Granite

@T Shirts: Yo T, I’m down with her secret crack habit! What else can it be?

  • Dr NYC

I’ll start a collection for her today!

  • g

@ohboy: I have the feeling she is not complaining about this, I have the feeling she is not saying exactly what you mean. There must have been a misunderstanding at some point…

  • WOW

So, so many people complaining about how much Mariska makes. For those people here working how many of you have to pay an assistant? A manager? A lawyer? A PR person? A nanny? None of you, right. Her paycheck may be bigger but she has to pay more people and much bigger bills than you all do. Just relax, what she makes affects no one here in any way, so don’t get yourself all worked up over something she said. Just focus on how to make YOUR future better.
