Philippines Dancing Inmates: 'This Is It' Tribute

The famous “Dancing Inmates” perform a new routine from This Is It as an homage to the late Michael Jackson at the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center.

This time around Michael Jackson‘s choreographer Travis Payne and dancers Daniel Celebre and Dres Reid flew to the maximum security prison to personally teach the inmates, according to USA Today.

The clips were meant to be on the This Is It Bluray and DVD released today, but wasn’t finished in time. Thankfully, Sony Pictures DVD shared the clip with the world today.

    Truly proud of these people. Their previous video performance for the Guiness Book preious year was truly amazing.

    They’re so lucky being choosen to be featured on the video. Part of promotion I guess. If Michael Jackson was still alive and have seen this, He will be truly proud of it.

    Great Job. Sana makarating lahat ng good comments sa kanilang lahat. You’re no longer an inmates. you can consider as one of the great dancer of MJ. Its very nice,just keep it up. Hope to see and watch another performance of you dancer. More…..more….

  • observer

    fantastic! I wish other prison facilities especially in the U.S. will copy this program. It’s such a positive impact to the prisoners, it makes them feel good since they are rehabilitated in a very positive way. If MJ saw this he would have been so proud I bet he would have flown there himself to join them!!!! MJ forever!

  • Lovely

    This is their best one yet but then again it was professionally choreographed.

  • cindy

    Beautiful. PEACE everyone! =D

  • Mmmwhatchasaaay

    AMAZING. couldn’t stop watching it!!
    guess it pays to be an innmate sometimes…..esp. the ones here. :))
    though hopefully the message they’re imparting to the rest of the world sticks not only to us viewers but to themselves as well. :)
    MJ has influenced the lives of soo many out there in more ways than any of us can imagine. who knew that innmates from a maximum securtiy prison would be sending a message to the rest of us out in the real world? AMAZING.

    Is it true that this a prison for all convicted homosexuals? Can’t imagine how lots of homos are there, all criminals?

  • lisa

    Um…… has anyone stopped to think their is a reason these men are in prison????? Why are we showcasing men that did most likely terrible things to land themselves in jail??
    I find this quite disturbing….

  • sese

    @lisa
    What’s so wrong with showcasing these people. There is completely nothing wrong with providing slight leisure to inmates like them. They’re humans too, they need to do something worthwhile for them to be rehabilitated. Other prisons provide productive and recreational activities to their inmates, what makes this so different from that?

  • observer

    @T pain:

    They are not coerced. It’s voluntary. It’s their culture which few people know nothing about. They’re influenced, riveted positively in MJ’s music. It’s the Filipino culture especially because it’s a tribute and honor for Michael Jackson. People cheer for them including me because they are less fortunate. They’re doing something positive out of their most unfortunate circumstances. They are an inspiration to people who are down-trodden, fellow prisoners around the globe or to anyone who want to make something out of nothing in their lives. A sense of purpose to make prison life easier to cope.
    Some of us may not be criminals but none of us is perfect. We do not have the right to judge, only God since we’re all sinners too.

  • cham

    @observer:
    amen to that :)

  • monet

    omg im so proud of them *tears*
    AWESOME!!!!

  • michelle

    Truly great…love it.

  • mmsic

    Wow,this is really fantastic.The best of their performance really but not surprise because it was choreographed.I like also their earlier performances because they did it on their on,no choreographer which means they are talented enough to be able to do it by themselves.T

  • ALMAR
