Roger Federer Wins 16th Grand Slam Title

Roger Federer defeats fifth-seeded Andy Murray in straight sets in the final at the 2010 Australian Open on Sunday (January 31) in Melbourne, Australia.

The 28-year-old tennis champ defeated Murray 6-3, 6-4, 7-6 (13-11) on Day 14 at Melbourne Park.

“I’m excited about life, and there is not only tennis,” Roger said the day after. “Having kids and being a father now and being married enhances everything,” he told ESPN. “I’m such a happy person today to see how well everything is working out for me. It just makes me extremely happy, extremely relaxed and it allows me to play good tennis, and I couldn’t ask for more.”

he is the greatest player of all time. he’s surpassed Pete Sampras by 2 Grand Slams already. no one can do it like Roger Federer. he makes tennis look easy.

and murray will have his chance to win…after Roger Federer retires.

Federer is the MAN!!!

I was never a fan of Murray but he played exceptionally well. His speech made me teary.

It was a shame not to see Murray win however I believe he’ll have many more opportunities in his career. As for Federer, he is a joy to watch and as far as I know, the only thing Sampras holds over Federer now is the amount of weeks as World #1…and even then Federer is likey to surpass that before his career comes to an end.

bloody british. Dats wat I am sayin. Thats samthin we will sea

This guy is so good that we probably are under appreciating how good he truly is. He is just so dominate to the point that when he wins a tournament, it’s expected. And if he loses a tournament it’s like, oh well he’ll win the next one for sure. He is definitely in the top five of all-time.

YOU obviously have no idea about tennis. What are you basing your facts on? A link that has not even been updated w/ the right information??

Thanks JJ!! Roger is a god among men–handsome, classy and stylish but most of all it’s just a joy to watch him play!

YES! The “Swiss Maestro” wins again! Without a doubt the GREATEST TENNIS PLAYER OF ALL TIME! He has the best and most-well rounded game in the business. When Roger retires (which I hope is not too soon), no one will dominate tennis like he did. Perhaps Nadal would have, but seems to be plagued with so many injuries lately. It’s too bad. But Murray still needs to step up his game to beat the FEDERER FREIGHT TRAIN!!!

@anna kk:

yes he is the best player ever, like they already mentioned here… 2 grand slams ahead and there are still more to come!!!

23 CONSECUTIVE Semi finals in a row. Made 18 of the last 19 FINALS.
5 consecutive Wimbledon titles; Made the finals 7 yrs in row. Winning 6 thus far. 5 Consecutive US open titles; made the finals 6yrs in row.
.
# 1: consecutive weeks at #1 and he has 19 more weeks to surpass Samprass for total weeks. Has a career grand slam; Pete does NOT!
And the list goes on.
.
ROGER is the GOAT!

Rogi is the goat.
He is definitely better than Sampras since they have played in similar conditions: grass, clay and hard court tennis.Roger’s success on clay is wayyyyyyyyyyy better than Pete, incomparable.
With Borg, so many could have beens, should have beens, (never played Australian Open but he did played at US Open and never won, so he’s not that good on hardcourt).
Rod Laver is the only comparison left becuase of 2 calendar slams, but he played only on grass and clay.

Roger has played three generations of tennis players and he’s been at the top for so many years with such consistency. His records for slams final and consecutive semi records says it all.

Way to go Roger and family (the Royal Family of Tennis; I love his parents+++).

congrats roger! and he IS the world’s best tennis player
