Maggie Gyllenhaal -- Oscars 2010 Red Carpet

Maggie Gyllenhaal and Peter Sarsgaard arrive together at the 2010 Oscars held at Kodak Theatre on Sunday (March 7) in Hollywood.

The 32-year-old actress (in Dries Van Noten) received her first Oscar nomination for her role in Crazy Heart, playing a single mom who falls for an alcoholic country star. Asked if she expected all of the attention from this movie, she said, “You know, when I first read it, I knew somehow that this was something that I wanted to play, and usually when I have that feeling, it’s usually that I’m right — I needed to do that movie.”

“And this movie had a star over it. And if I think about what I aspire to, and what I like in movies, it’s to be in a movie like this,” Maggie told AMCtv.

Maggie! I love you as an actress but why, why, why this dress? Why? She has a terrific body and could pull off most looks, why did she pick this dress?

Actually it fits her style. She’s a talented actress she’s not really trying to be a fashionista. Nor does she have to be one b/c she’s a big name (like Sandra Bullock and some of the others). It may not be the best choice for the Oscar red carpet but she still looks great and she stands out!!

I like the dress, but not for this event. It seems a bit casual or something? It would be pretty to wear at a wedding or a nice dinner party?

@Lisa2: I agree. This dress is too casual. Not horrible but it’s something she should have kept for another event. So here, NO.

    Sorry-
A garden party print on a dress with a train just doesn’t work.

She’s actually included in yahoo’s best dressed list. But I don’t like it much. She is pretty and has a great body so why pick this dress? It looks too casual for the Oscars.

How this Gabby girl ever made it to an Oscar nomination is beyond me. She is no actress by any stretch of the imagination. I counted three expressions she was able to convey: disgruntled, crying, laughing and even those not very well, in a face that is so fat as to almost totally inhibiting the movement of facial muscles. Just because on one level we empathize with the character she played does not mean that her performance is worthy of praise.

It’s ironic that Gabby’s morbid obesity should make her famous at a time when more than half of America’s population gorges itself into an early grave. So she is no role model in this respect either. I think there is evidence that she actually is a very pretty woman under all this excessive weight, but she may not live long enough for us to find out if she doesn’t do something about her obesity sometime soon.
