Sandra Bullock Wins Best Actress Oscar!

Sandra Bullock Wins Best Actress Oscar!

Sandra Bullock wins an Oscar for Best Actress for her role in The Blind Side at the 2010 Oscars held at the Kodak Theater on Sunday (March 7) in Hollywood.

The 45-year-old Speed actress gave an emotional acceptance speech as she accepted her award. She also graciously spoke about the other four nominees: Carey Mulligan, Helen Mirren, Gabourey Sidibe and Meryl Streep.

“Did I really earn this or did I just wear you all down? I would like to thank the Academy for allowing me in the last month to have the most incredible ride with rooms full of artists that I see tonight and that I’ve worked with before and I hope to work with in the future, who inspire me and blaze trails for us. Four of them that I’ve fallen deeply in love with I share this night with and I share this award with.”

Gabby, I love you so much. You are exquisite. You are beyond words to me. Carey, your grace and your elegance and your beauty and your talent makes me sick. Helen, I feel like we are family through family and I don’t have the words to express just what I think of you. And Meryl, you know what I think of you and you are such a good kisser.

I have so many people to thank for my good fortune in this lifetime and this is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, I know. To the family that allowed me to play them, the Tuohy family, I know they’re in here and you’ll probably hear her in a minute. Maybe not. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to… the family that made this film that gave me the opportunity to do something different. John Lee Hancock, Gil Netter, Alcon, Warner Bros., the actors, everyone who’s shown me kindness when it wasn’t fashionable, I thank you. To everyone who was mean to me when it wasn’t… George Clooney threw me in a pool years ago. I’m still holding a grudge. But there’s so many people to thank.

Not enough time, so I would like to thank what this film is about for me which are the moms that take care of the babies and the children no matter where they come from. Those moms and parents never get thanked. I, in particular, failed to thank one. So… if I can take this moment to thank Helga B. for not letting me ride in cars with boys until I was 18 because she was right. I would’ve done what she said I was gonna do. For making me practice every day when I got home. Piano, ballet, whatever it is I wanted to be. She said to be an artist, you had to practice every day, and for reminding her daughters that there’s no race, no religion, no class system, no color, nothing, no sexual orientation that makes us better than anyone else. We are all deserving of love. So, to that trailblazer, who allowed me to have that. And this. And this. I thank you so much for this opportunity that I share with these extraordinary women and my lover Meryl Streep. Thank you.”

I love Sandra. I’m so happy she won and to say she’s an Oscar Winner! She deserved it. It’s uncharacteristic of her to take such a role. Her comedic prowlness and action pack movies like Speed is what she was known for and to take on a role in The Blindside was incredible. She can do it all. She’s one of those actresses along side, Julia Roberts, Meryl Streep

@g!na:

She didn’t forget to thank him. She was choked up because she was talking about her mother and how she got her to this point and to Jesse who she pointed at and said “you.” So, no she didn’t say his name but she definitely acknowledged him, the camera even showed him right after she pointed at him.

Sandra Bullock picking up her well deserved oscar was one of my favourite moments of the night, i loved her speech, it was really emotional. I love her and loved this movie. She was actually one of the reasons that this movie was so succesfull. Another great moment was seeing Kathryn Begalow winning for best derector. It took a long time for a woman being awarded that honor. Overwall it was a good show, a bit long, but kinda funny. Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin joking with Meryl Streep was priceless.

I am so happy for her! :)

@g!na:

LOL….that was the first thing I said when she finished. I was like, OMG, she forgot to thank her husband and any other time, she just can’t stop talking about him. I cant believe that!!!

But she did great. I loved her speech and you could tell she didn’t expect it. She is awesome.

Thumb up Thumb down 0

@g!na:

no, she thanked Jesse. Well she didn’s say his name, but if you watch the footage, when she says “We are all deserving of love. So, to that trailblazer, who allowed me to have that. And this. And this…” she pointed to Jesse in the audience as she teared up. It was really sweet!
it was an amazing speech!
SO PROUD OF SANDY!

Thumb up Thumb down 0

Congratulations Sandra, you kick ass!!!

Thumb up Thumb down 0

@gmoneyzz: I watched it again, and didnt see it that way.

She said, to this and this….but she didnt say Jesse. That was just kinda wrong :-)

She definitely deserves it. When I first saw her in ‘The Net’, I knew she was going to be one of my three favorite actresses. She still is too. Haha. YES. Congrats to her !! All the acting she’s done in her movies are really well done. :D So happy she won !

I thought this was the longest, worst Oscars ever, but it was all worth it when Sandy Bullock and Jeff Bridges won Best Actor awards. I loved both movies. They both seem so humble and funny and truly nice.

Congratulations – you were well worth staying awake for!

Thumb up Thumb down 0

About time she wins an Oscar! She deserves it!

Congratulations Sandra Bullock!

@Ryan: I agree. I like Sandra but she’s not the best actress and didn’t deserve this.

The Oscars weren’t the best ever, but the worst? No way! Last year was god awful! It was nothing but watching those filthy indian people parade around the room and listen to ‘Jai ho’ for 3 hours.

Thumb up Thumb down 0

Why did she win again? So friggin’ lame…

Great performance. Great film. Great dress. Great speech. Great woman all around. Well deserved. Congratulations, Sandra!

Thumb up Thumb down 0

It’s kinda funny.Sandra was around about YEARS and no one really cared about her..Since SPEED she did some crap movies and it looked she would be just like that actresses whos everyone knows but no one cares about…Then she appears in CRASH movie and from 2006 to now it looks she was reaaaaally into it(REALLY acting and doing a great job). She deserves this and i hope she keeps on this type of work because she rocks doin drama stuff

Thumb up Thumb down 0

She didn’t deserve it just like Julia Roberts didn’t deserve it.

Thumb up Thumb down 0

Yay, congratulations!

Thumb up Thumb down 0

the only speech given that actually made me tear up. well deserved.

So, she deserves this Oscar for this role WHY? The film was really an overly long Hallmark Card commercial. She did a fine job, but Oscar-worthy? Golden Globe worthy? Nope, she just happens to be really popular this year.

For a role to be worthy of a Best Actor Oscar, it must be a singularly great performance: elevates the film, elevates the entire ensemble, represents something only that actor can bring to the role.

This year’s award should have gone to Carey Mulligan or Gabby Sidibe. Stunning performances by both young actors.

Thumb up Thumb down 0

She gets that it’s not who you are or what you have but what you do with it that matters. Great movie and a great actress.

i love sandra @ 03/08/2010 at 9:09 am

Thumb up Thumb down 0

didnt she donate a million dollars of her own money to haiti?

Thumb up Thumb down 0

For those saying Sandra did not thank her husband, apparently you did not watch her entire acceptance speech.

Go Sandra ! An honor well deserved.

Thumb up Thumb down 0

Congratulations Sandra! Classy woman!

Thumb up Thumb down 0

She’s just amazing. Lovely lovely speech. I’m so happy that she won, she totally deserved it.

Thumb up Thumb down 0

I am so happy for Sandra. She really deserved this. She is a very talented actress and her performance in The Blindside was amazing. Congratulations Sandra! This is long overdue!

Thumb up Thumb down 0

@dlk: She didn’t specifically say his name. She was talking about her mother who never let her go around with boys when she was younger. And that she was thankful of her for doing that because she probably wouldn’t have met “that and this.” (She pointed to her husband and to her Oscar). I remember because this is when I started tearing up.

Thumb up Thumb down 0

Congratulations, Sandy! She is classy and authentic. I am so pleased to see her receive the Oscar. Her dress was my favorite for the evening.

Thumb up Thumb down 0

Love her and very happy for her win.

Thumb up Thumb down 0

Ok Miley Cyrus gets to win next year. Bullock goes from sucks to success in the same year? Right! It was a heartwarming story, but she was hardly Oscar worthy. No wonder fewer people are watching the Oscars. They did manage to hike up the number this year, by pulling in the Twilight fans, but it still sucked.

I don’t think the Academy knows what ‘great’ acting is anymore. Same with the movie Precious, except for Mo’nique’s performance, the movie was HIGHLY over-rated; it had a great story to tell, but the acting was just ok. As for Avatar, it got what it deserved, special effects award. The CGI guys made this movie. The fact that anyone thought it was Oscar worthy as Best Picture is laughable. I loved that James ( Pompous) Cameron’s ex won best director. lol.

Thumb up Thumb down 0

I like Sandra and loved her dress!! I’m happy for her. The part of her speech when she spoke of her Mother brought tears to my eyes.

sorry but you are dead wrong. sandra bullock did not deserve this oscar. she should have had the courage to stand up on the podium and announce that actress who this oscar belongs to is Gabourey Sidibe and no one else. instead of choosing the best actress the voters chose the lowest common denominator. at least middle amercia is happy, they are the only ones who are.

Thumb up Thumb down 0

My goodness, she did thank her husband, go back and watch the footage! The camera even panned to him when she acknowledged him, you don’t have to spell someone’s name out in order to acknowledge them, geezzz……….

My favourite gal….you go gal!

Thumb up Thumb down 0

Only one person can win and some years there are several who deserve it. Some years, there are those who do not. Sandy Bullock is a hard working, funny, sweet lady who totally deserved this award. The lady that she played was talking today about how professional Sandy was and that she shadowed the family to make sure that she got the facts correct. The Blind Side was a really good movie. The only one I saw this year that I want to own. She has the ability to make people laugh and to make people care. You go girl. Her movie While You Were Sleeping is one of my all time favorite movies. Kudos Sandy.

Congratulations, very well deserved I did love her speech, especially the part about her late mother. She’s hilarious and has dramatic chops and she was THE money maker in 2009, not bad for a gal who’s 45 in an industry that promotes anything under 30. I hope I look that great when I’m her age. I loved her dress too.

Thumb up Thumb down 0

you can’t help but LOVE HER!!

Sandra rocks! Love her!

Thumb up Thumb down 0

so happy she won.

Thumb up Thumb down 0

all of you are a bunch of fangirls. if you really think that sandra bullock in the blind side deserved an academy award over helen mirren, meryl streep, gabourey sidibe, and carey mulligan you clearly don’t understand that the category is BEST actress and not FAVORITE actress. I love Sandra as a person but her performance is the weakest best actress winner in years.
