Sean Hayes, former star of Will & Grace, opens up to The Advocate about being gay in their April 2010 issue.
Here’s what the 39-year-old actor, who’s set to make his Broadway debut in the first revival of Promises, Promises, had to share:
On his sexuality: “I am who I am. I was never in, as they say. Never.”
On his personal life: I spend time with a special someone in my life. That’s it. That’s all I need. I don’t need events. I don’t do a lot. I live my life like an 85-year-old man. I’m just quiet. It’s fantastic.”

The guy just openly admitted he’s gay and it’s not the first time. I think he’s cool with it. He’s adorable, talented and honest. How refreshing for HW! Love him.

Sean is an incredible person. He has such talent! As an actor, a singer, and a musician… and he is just as nice in person! He has such a positive outlook on life, and truly makes this world a better place. I can’t wait to see him on Broadway this spring!

I don’t know why some Gay people AND heterosexuals think Gay people should just shout out to the world that they are Gay. You don’t see heterosexuals shouting to the world that they’re heterosexuals. Your sexual preferences is not WHO you are, it’s only part of the whole person, but SOME Gays make it seems like that’s all there is to them. That’s kind of sad. Hayes has a perfect right to live his life as HE sees fit. Being Gay is not a club, you don’t get points for outing them.

It’s great that more and more actors and actresses are getting comfortable in their own skin. Whether we want to believe it or not but many actors and actresses stay in the closet because they think it’ll ruin their career. They believe they won’t be able to book jobs or get hired for a role because of of their sexuality. I know many of us are still wondering when the other actors will get comfortable in the their own skin and let it all out. We may say that we don’t care about their sexuality but honestly, we’re just as curious to know as the next person.
I give him props for admitting the truth about himself. However, he knows that this will draw attention to himself. And he probably would like some attention since he hasn’t done anything since Will and Grace. He probably hates being typecast.

I loved him in Will & Grace! I didn’t think there was any mystery over his orientation. I completely believe him as “Just Jack!” He was hilarious! His Broadway debut should be entertaining.
@jaye: It is not about “shouting it out to the world” it is about having others on the same page as you. If you want to lead a happy, healthy honest normal life, orientation is not something that should be hidden. ESPECIALLY when there is a lot of speculation around you, that, can get extremely frustrating. Some men don’t get all the speculation and questions so they don’t feel the need to say anything at all. Some do. It’s particularly annoying when people ask you question but talk around the subject. Perhaps you should watch this:
