Anderson Cooper Covers 'Outside' Magazine April 2010

CNN personality Anderson Cooper takes the April 2010 cover of Outside Magazine‘s “Adventure issue,” on stands tomorrow. Here’s what the 42-year-old silver fox shared (via USA Today):

On overcoming fear: “I don’t believe you should be ruled by fear in anything in life. I don’t like anything that scares me, I prefer to face it head-on and get over it. Anyone who says they’re not scared is a fool or a liar or both. I just don’t want that fear in my stomach to be a part of my life, so I work to eliminate it.”

On skydiving being senseless: “I have no interest in jumping out of an airplane, or any of the things people do for thrills to push the limit and all that. To me, that seems foolish. There’s no point. If people are suffering in a place, to me, it’s not a question of whether I’m going to go or not. It’s a question of how fast can I get there.”

On springing into action while in Haiti: “You suddenly find yourself in a situation where, you say … what do you do? There are some journalism purists who say that you do nothing, that you just watch and report, and I certainly understand that. But in the case of a little boy who got hit in the head with a cement block, no one was helping him. He couldn’t get up. … Blood was pouring from his head. It was a split second decision to take him out of the situation.”

i think anderson is best thing on televison. i just love him.

  • Mark

His only fear seems to be telling us he is gay.

  • Rita

#7, why is that any of our own business?

  • cubedweller

@Mark: His personal life is his own business. He’s not living a lie by bearding. He just lives his life, with class. I really admire him for all that he’s accomplished.

  • sarafina

Love you Mr Cooper. Love you because you are Modest and decent and your private life is none of anyones business.
Thank you for keeping your news reports Honest…….

  • Pandora

AC is the complete package. Let’s not get into his implied obligation to inform the world whom he loves and whom he sleeps with. It’s not our business.

  • Jacob

I don’t see what’s the big deal about him being gay. He works for CNN. I honestly don’t think CNN would fire him if he came out of the closet. I do think that Anderson Cooper is somewhat of a sensationalist but that probably comes with the job.

  • sasha

This guy is awesome…I could care less what his sexual preferences are thats his business. Nothing changes the fact that he is just awesome!

  • ganymede30324

I had no idea that he wasn’t ‘out’. Makes the magazine choice more amusing though. He’s an extremely handsome and well-spoken guy. A bit dim, but I like that in a man.

  • helllo

He chooses not to talk about his sexuality. He’s never denied and has never tried to cover it up by pretending to be interested in women. He can’t just be “out” as a journalist who goes into war zones of countries that kill because of homosexuality. And it’s nobody’s business anyway.

  • Ashley

He used to be out but he decided not to discuss it when he got into journalism.

  • Peter

Has anyone actually read what he said? He used a lot of words to say absolutely NOTHING! I guess he’s knows the American formula to acheive popularity. OK, all you brilliant Americans, without looking it up can you tell me the name of the capital city of Malaysia? I thought not……

  • Peter

    dim, indeed

  • Pandora

I read what he said, as I’m sure the others commenting on this thread did, too. While I understand we don’t all have the same mental apparatus, and we process differently, I would say that if you thought he used a lot of words to say nothing, then you didn’t do a close reading, you don’t get the subtext. Hint: action/reaction. He’s a very personable guy, a conversationalist. He wouldn’t want to do an interview wherein whomever he was interviewing had an economy of words. Ergo, he didn’t *give* those type of responses. He’s not dim, nor is he shallow. Lots of emotional depth there.

  • GreenCAT

Anderson Cooper is so HOT! I love it when he co-hosts the Regis & Kelly show.

  • chopper

Anderson cooper is a flaming butt pirate dicksmoker who is going straight to hell.

  • bo

Chooper will be in the same hell for his judgementalism. we knowyou are just repressing your latent gay desires.

  • Tonic

If he’s not afraid of anything, than he shouldn’t be afraid to say, “I AM GAY.”

  • David Ehrenstein

@cubedweller: Not it’s not. He’s a public figure. He’s written an article “Why We Need Risk: How To Conquer Your Fear”

    WHEN ARE YOU COMING OUT?????!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Jacob

Isn’t AC living a lie by hiding his homosexuality? It’s 2010. Honestly, no one is going to care if he comes out of the closet. Besides, it would probably be good for him to do it and stop living a lie.

  • collegesinglesusa

Glad he is Out side giving the straight talk

  • diya

on overcoming fear—eliminating fear is a hard process…well, i try not to do so…i try to convert it into something positive, but never eliminate it…maybe i’m not as brave as you are, AC…keep the good works!
