Katherine Heigl: I Will Be Your Vision of Stephanie Plum

Katherine Heigl has revealed the reason for her darker locks!

The 31-year-old actress filled Us Weekly in on the details at the ShoWest awards ceremony in Las Vegas on Thursday (March 18), where she was named Female Star of the Year – it’s for her upcoming role in One for the Money!

“She is a very specific kind of girl, so I just wanted to show the legion of fans that I will be your vision of Stephanie Plum,” Katherine shared. “It’s important. I hate when my favorite books are made into films and they are just not what you expect.”

One for the Money is based on the Janet Evanovich novel of the same name.

I love the Stephanie Plum books. I can’t wait to see who they have as the old grandmother, too bad Estelle Getty passed away, she would have been perfect.

  2. 2 Says:

Ooooh, and Ranger was HAWT!! I wonder who they will cast to play him?

I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum. Katherine Heigl? Not so much. Since Stephanie Plum is the protagonist in 13 (and counting!) novels, I hope Heigl portrays Plum well. I’d hate to see something like Jack Ryan of “The Hunt for Red October” -brilliantly portrayed by Alec Baldwin- destroyed by a glum and unbelievable Harrison Ford.

    @Oh…how…lovely….: Betty White!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

while i appreciate her trying to keep true to the character- i just can’t see her as stephanie plum. she’s too… perky ot something. and i do agree estelle getty would’ve been awesome as the grandmother!

They HAVE to cast the Rock as Ranger – he’s perfect!

@Lalique: For someone who professes to love the series, I’m surprised that you don’t know there are actually 15 (soon to be 16) novels in the regular series, and 4 between-the-numbers books.

    Lynda Says:

Heigl, meh, not so much my idea of Stephanie….I see more of Sandra Bullock in the role. Grandma, Betty White is a possibility – The Rock as Ranger? Perfect! Now for Joe…..McDreamy? And when we get to it, Mo”nique as Lula!

I don’t see her as Plum at all. Marisa Tomei would be a much better choice. Heigl will probably ruin the series.

I freakin’ hate Katherine Heigl because of how disrespectful she is to her writers and those she works with. I will not see the movie. I don’t care how great the rest of the cast is.

    ebby Says:

I feel like the fans should get a petition going to get her fired.

    mary Says:

This is the worst casting call possibly in history. I can’t believe they picked her! Sure she is pretty and sometimes funny but she is not right to play SP! I have a feeling she will make SP come off like a snob or emotionless. I think we (fans) need to make something petition or blog…something!

@ebby: I was just thinking the same thing. I DO NOT want my vision of Stephanie Plum destroyed by Hotair Heigl!

    mary Says:

I wish they would just fill the cast with a bunch of nobodies. Honestly I think it would just be better. Sandra would be a great SP though…

  16. 16
    lizk Says:

@mary: I agree about the “nobodies” which means Sandra should be OUT!

The Plum Series is popular enough. It doesn’t need a huge star. Just a really good up-and-coming actress who is in her late 20s or early 30s.

    Bonnie Says:

@Lynda: You are RIGHT ON with your choice of actors for these great characters!! I see Estelle Getty as Stephanie’s granny when I read the books…I’m on #7 now. Love the books and love the characters. Just hope the movie(s) do the books justice.

    ebby Says:

Let me just suggest a number of actresses (of all ages) who would have been better: Anne Hathaway, Rachel Leigh Cook, Tina Majorino, Rachel Bilson, Amber Tamblyn, Julia Stiles, Anna Kendrick… Heck, even Kristen Bell! She was excellent as Veronica Mars, and wore lots of brunette wigs and looked great.

    ebby Says:

My major problem with Heigl is that she has this negative vibe due to the way she has treated writers and crew members. Because of her reputation, she turns people off. Why would you attach that kind of person to a popular book franchise? We’re fans of our writer. Ms. “Writers Are The Nobodies I Spit Upon” is not going to sit well with us.

  20. 20 Says:

Yes, THE ROCK as Ranger. And McDreamy would make a good Joe.

    kara Says:

love stephanie plum! katherine heigel? not sooo much

    ebby Says:

    Nice blog.

(No McDreamy! Why should this movie turn into a Grey’s Anatomy movie?)

Author Janet Janet Evanovich loves Heigl. And she seems very excited and happy ;)

    KH will be good Plum.

KH will do a good job as Plum. She is already demonstrating that she will make changes in her appearance as needed for the character. Great that she is branching out and spreading her wings from her usual film rom coms.
