OlderOlivia Munn is 'Da Man' Woman
Olivia Munn is black, white and classy all over in this new fashion spread from DaMan magazine (with Vampire Diaries hunk Paul Wesley on the cover).
The 29-year-old stunner shares with the mag that she’s half-Chinese (born in America, but lived in Japan for most of her childhood because her stepfather was in the U.S. Air Force). Olivia explains how she got into acting as a kid in Japan.
She shared, “I basically begged my mom to let me do it all. I learned to barter at an early age. I had to take karate and piano (to perpetuate the Asian stereotype) and hated it. Not that I really hated the activities, I just hated being told what to do. So, then I learned to negotiate with my mom. I said I would do well at all my piano recitals and make sure to get new belts in karate if she let me take theater classes. How could she turn down that offer? She got what she wanted: a karate-chopping, piano-playing daughter. And I got what I wanted: to act.”
When asked if she always wanted to get into showbiz, Olivia replied, “I spent a lot of time running around after my big brother and emulating him. One day, I was watching my favorite show, Punky Brewster, and I asked my mom to help me be her friend. Punky (actress
Soleil Moon Frye) looked exactly like me: brown pigtails, freckles, tomboy. [My mom] explained to me that [Punky] wasn’t real, just an actress. That’s when I knew that I wanted to do what Punky Brewster did. Of course, when I told my Asian mother I wanted to be an actress, she
immediately shot it down telling me ‘You be lawyer or doctor! No actress!’ But I never let that deter me. I always believed if someone else could do it, I could too, if I worked hard enough.”
Olivia‘s breakout performance in Iron Man 2 will hit theaters on May 8. She stars alongside Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Mickey Rourke, and Gwyneth Paltrow.
FYI: Ms. Munn is wearing a Preen jacket and a PH8 tank.

That black and white picture is beautiful but I don’t like this girl. I like the fact that she practices Karate and plays piano but I really don’t think she’s that good pf an actress. She has to prove me wrong.

Seriously Jared. SERIOUSLY. Try covering some real “celebrities” rather than forcing this try-hard on everyone constantly. Once in a while I can handle, but there’s a new Munn post every day at the moment, and your blog is becoming a joke. I don’t know how much her PR are paying you, but it better be a lot if you’re willing to annoy and drive away your readers because you are continually posting about nobodies whose publicists obviously have you in their pocket.
She has very little talent, other than pandering to geeks and reading a teleprompter. And she is annoying as hell. Fair enough, she is trying to break in to movies. But she’s done nothing so far that proves she warrants the vast amounts of coverage she gets on here (have you noticed NO other gossip blogs give her the time of day? Funny that.)

The black and white picture is really pretty. But why in so many of her other pictures does she make a facial expression like she is in pain. I think she, or whoever is directing her photo sessions thinks that this expression makes her look serious, intense. But to me it makes her look like she has a headache or is constipated.
As far as her “break out” role in Iron Man, isn’t that just a bit premature? You can’t say someone is a break out before the movie is released. The very nature of being a break out role is that it comes as a surprise, i.e., it wasn’t expected.
I do agree with everyone else, why is JJ trying so hard to make OM happen. I think it is having the opposite effect, actually turning people off.
If she wants to successfully make a transition from that other TV show, she needs to play it cool, concentrate on her work and not pander to the paps, etc. Having seen her on a few talk shows, I think she is actually pretty funny. It is possible that she might be able to carve out a career, but who ever is advising her to hook up with this website constantly, is causing her more harm than good.

I’m a little confused. She’s half Chinese living in Japan who has an Asian mother with an American step-father. So I’m concluding that her “real” dad is Chinese. Right? I’d hate to be her filling out her census form.

Especially the part about the “break out” role. It most definitely is hard to call any role a “break out” prior to the film actually being released.

Her dad is WHITE hence the last name. Mom is CHINESE. Due to her step-father being in the army and such, they moved to Japan.

Thank you,Ollie,for further perpetuating that so-called Asian-only stereotype. Not all mothers who want their kids to take up piano and karate lessons and actually want them to have stable professional careers as doctors and lawyers are Asians and not all Asian mothers want their children to do any of those things anyway.
“Starring” in Iron Man 2? She doesn’t have a starring role, just a cameo, as stated in this excerpt from a recent interview in Complex Magazine:
