Taiwanese Boy Sings Whitney Houston's 'I Will Always Love You'

Check out this amazing Whitney Houston soundalike!

Lin Yu Chun blew away judges on the Taiwanese singing competition Super Star Avenue with his rousing rendition of Whitney Houston‘s “I Will Always Love You.”

The winner of Super Star Avenue takes home $1 million and a chance to release his/her album!

Whitney recently canceled a show due to illness – maybe this guy should fill in for her!

Nice bowl cut, kid!!

  • Carol

    WOW !
    He sounds amazing !

  • How do I put this?…

From what I’ve heard about her performances so far, maybe she should fly this boy in to do some shows.

  • Carrey

That was amazing, damn there’s allot of unknown talent coming out of the woodworks. The male Susan Boyle, if he wins he better go get a nicer hairdo than that mushroom cut, yet then again gives him character.

  • ck_always

    LOL wow!

  • LuckyL

LOL Jared, where do you find this stuff?

  • Josie

OMG LOL who needs normal people anymore!? chinese can do it all, sing, dance, make robots, math….and now sing like black women!! they will replace us all!

  • LuckyL

I f*cking love this kid btw. I hope he wins!!!! Omg, my eyes watered!!

  • Holy Li Yu Chun, Batman

God Lord this kid is amazing! I couldn’t believe my ears the first time round so had to watch it again. Wow…just WOW! Be warned people – one day, Asians, particularly the Chinese, will rule this world! Btw love him – hope he wins! x

  • jefferic

I’m Taiwanese and the show is from Taiwan not China. It’s one of the most popular shows in Taiwan now.

  • Craig

Thanks Jared for sharing this clip! Just want to point out one thing though – that Super Star Avenue is a popular show in Taiwan, and this boy is also Taiwanese instead of Chinese.

  • LuckyL

^^Thanks for the correction. Now perhaps all the crazy “China’s taking over” comments can cease *rolls eyes*

  • youwillmissme

I like his version better than Whitney’s! Good job kid :-)

  • Holy Li Yu Chun, Batman

@Holy Li Yu Chun, Batman: Sorry everyone – I take back the Chinese comment – he’s TAIWANESE!

  • Just Jared

    @jefferic: @Craig: Thanks!

  • ck_always

I just have to get one thing off my chest and it doesn’t demean his talent in any way but …that bowl cut is atrocious!

  • Xahira

  • Katie n

This kid is amazing!! he has the accent and the sound down perfectly! And singing ability to boot…

  • please

these people are imitating whitney. whitney IS whitney and has had hit after hit… leave her alone.

  • LuckyL

    Lmao, Jared you’re so sensitive.

  • Alejandro R.

Everybody in this video looks like disabled, good voice though …

  • ummahyk

jesus christ…he’s voice is unbelievable!..and he is taiwanese!!!!

  • fan

    Wow, that is talent.

  • iFellytone

@please: Hahaha, no Whitney hasn’t had hits after hits. She’s a burned out former diva who really can’t sing much anymore.

And her comeback album? After 3 years in production and a year’s delay none of her singles could even crack the Top 60. Plus her last #1 “hit” was in 1995, which only happened to last a week.

Lastly, what’s funnier is that her signature song, this one, isn’t even hers. It’s a cover of Dolly Parton’s 1960 classic. Think twice before calling others imitators

  • moi

  • Lukas

  • weewoo

dude, don’t you just hate it when Chinese people say Taiwan is china’s, argg idiots. Taiwanese ppl dont speak with an accent

    anyways, amazing!!!

  • Sheigh

Yes, he will become a diva !
    Such a good talent!

  • http://N/A artisticguy99

not even lady gaga can sing like this lol

  • jefferic

@weewoo: I really don’t like being considered as Chinese, and yes we don’t speak with such strong accent like people in China. However, ironically Chinese people think people in Taiwan have a weird accent.

  • arrival

    thats amazing!!

  • mika_says_hi

that boy reminds me of russel from up!! so cute!!! and has an amazing voice!!!

  • anti-AI

Yeah, it would be interesting to see his personal spin and interpretation of the song than a carbon copy note-for-note of Whitney’s version. But he sure can sing live much better than Whitney can nowadays. His voice will change with puberty but he has the technique with the power and volume in his projection and holding a note.

Usually, we see Filipinos from the Philippines with spectacular voices. This kid’s performance was mind-blowing.

  • CQ

WOW amazing. Who wouldve thought. He gave me chills. Good job, not to mention his clear english :)

  • Line

    Sounds awesome!!!

  • jnojnf

    Was NOT expecting that.
    Kudos, kid.

  • fardous

what avoice and my fav song go on

    i hope he won

  • jefferic

I’m afraid that some supporters of his might be disappointed in the fact he’s actually not a contestant of this show. He’s among those chosen by the producer of this show to ‘challenge’ the contestants. If they succeed in challenging the contestants, e.g. defeating them, by gaining higher scores from the judges, then the lost contestant will possibly be eliminated. The winning challenger can choose either challenge again next week or take prize money.
