‘Desperate Housewives’ Cast Respond to Nicollette Sheridan’s Lawsuit

The stars of Desperate Housewives are standing by show creator Marc Cherry with regards to Nicollette Sheridan‘s accusations of assault and battery.

Teri Hatcher, Felicity Huffman, Marcia Cross and Eva Longoria released this joint statement:

“It would be irresponsible of us to let the public believe that being a part of this show from its inception has been anything but a blessing. We have no first-hand knowledge of what Nicolette may or may not have experienced, but we would never characterize our set as a hostile environment. It is, in fact, the opposite. The friendships and support that Marc Cherry, the cast, the crew and the producers have shared for the past six years have made this a wonderful job that we are grateful for every day.”

Teri added in a separate statement, “I’m honored to stand with Eva, Felicity and Marcia, as a group and clarify that our set environment is nothing less than an amazingly positive experience. I have never felt discriminated against. In fact, I have felt heard and respected by Marc and other executives in regards to both my professional and personal needs.”

Nicollette is suing ABC and Marc for $20 million because he allegedly hit her.

    Er – right

Are they getting paid? Why would they feel the need to release a joint statement? Why get involved at all?

  • Bianca

These women are just keeping their mouths shut about the real incident. Of course, they don’t want to lose their jobs.

  • t

I guess they have to say that… I mean, they don’t want to get eaten by Marc, right?

  • Eric Shinn

I too would be supporting Marc Cherry if he was paying me $400,000 per episode – who’d wanna risk losing that kinda money!!!

Although the pics I’ve seen of him – he looks like a slimey creep!!!!

  • B.Duchesse

These kind of behaviour form professionals behind the cameras could hurt their show so OBVIOUSLY the girls have to make aliving. Nicolette is out of it now so it won’t hurt her career if the show comes down. When at the office there’s sexual harresment and the girl in question quits, normally her co-workers will stand on the employers side for obvious reasons. This means nothing at all, not to mention that the ‘enviroment’ at the show is created by many people together which doesn’t necessarily mean that each and every single person of the group is a darling. To say there’s a good enviroment equals saying nothing at all.

  • Andrea

Damage control! So pathetic! I have just lost all respect for these women.

  • GabyS.

This statement is “routine.” Yes, exactly! It’s damage control, as someone just said. It doesn’t mean that Nicolette is lying at all. At this point, I don’t think these women are worried about a paycheck, because they all got rich and famous on the show. But they are worried about the show itself. This is who they are. This is it for them. I really don’t see Marcia, or Terry ever doing anything as successful again. Felicity has proved she can act and could do stage or movie work in a limited way. Eva, as pretty as she is, ought to be glad she has Tony, and Beso her restaurant. She might could get a TV show of her own, one day, but for all of them, Desperate Housewives was like striking gold. Nicolette was always the outsider. I believe her. It’s very possible that he was abusive to her and was OK with them. I don’t think she would have filed the lawsuit if there was no reason for it.

  • All Women Stalker

They are only “saying” that because they don’t want to lose their jobs. Typical.

  • Anon

I’ve just lost respect for all of them.
Didn’t Eva say the other day she was aware of an ‘incident’ between Nicollette and that slimy creep.
    Now no one knows anything??

  • Infamous

Didnt Eva say there was an incident but she wasnt on set that day! And didnt ABC say they were aware of a claim Nicolette filed against Mark last year?! Something is up!!

This is absolutely horrid. The suit is not about the working environment, is about one case of assault.

Unless a person was present at the time of the incident, there is NO statement that is reverent.

These ladies should be ashamed. Gravely ashamed.

  • Liz

I think this is really awful – they are only backing Cherry so as not to lose their jobs. So much for female solidarity.

  • Yuck!

This has totally turned me off the Wisteria Lane crew. How could they issue a statement when they don’t know anything about the incident. This is total damage control and a pretty clear indication of how abusive the working environment must be if they are forced to issue a statement.

  • Ungirl Power

Nothing like standing together against an aggressive male, but I guess when a huge paycheck is involved you will say anything.

  • miapocca

The thing with human decency is that is you are unaware of what actually transpired between to people, your best reponse is NO COMMENT. I smell a rat in that these ladies are paying paid to salvage a show that may be wrapping up anyway. I never actually got into the stupid show because other than a couple of ladies the rest are crappy actresses. These are 40-50 somthing year old women who have slim picking and therefore all I get from these statements are that SOMETHING STINKS big time!
Whose the heck will even bother to release a statement when there is an ongoign takes two to have a relationship, wether good or bad. I hoep Nicoleete gets her day in court or a b ig ass settlement.

  • natalie

It’s called “circling the wagons,” or damage control. They’re being good team players by stating they were oblivious to what was supposedly going on.

  • elle

justice for women! i can’t believe they would all stand agaisnt Nicollete. i’m on her team. i feel bad for her.

  • lucas

@Bianca: you really think that these women would make a statement like this if it was a blatant lie. that they would excuse assault on another women, sexual bias etc. You must really think they are total bitches

  • lucas

@Infamous: ABC said that some complaints were made which they investigated and found no merit.
Mind you this is all supposedly a year and a half old incident that is just now coming up. AND Nicollette is claiming that she was fired because Marc is gay and hates women etc. That even many fans thought her story was getting rather lame and old and pointless of course couldn’t have been a factor. No Marc is a woman hater and likes to slap them around and such (which is why we have all these dozens of stories about other incidents). Nicollette wants us to believe that she wouldn’t stand for it so she was shit canned for complaining

this whole thing smells more like Nicollette hasn’t been able to cash in on her time on DH and is stirring up things for press.

Sheridan has had trouble, shall we say, ‘getting along’ with others in the past. this is why I view her lawsuit with skepticism.

  • Cindy

I do not believe Sheridan. She is desperate for $$$$.
