Matthew Fox: The End of 'Lost' is Awesome

Matthew Fox chats with Playboy in their newest issue and opens up about Lost, why he loves his wife and losing his virginity before he became a teenager.

Here’s what the 43-year-old actor had to share:

On the end of Lost: “I know a little bit about what the end’s going to be like. I went to the show’s creators to ask what I should be working toward with my character. They gave me an image of how my character would end up. It’s pretty awesome.”

On his wife, Margherita: “The subject of fidelity is very personal. People definitely come after you for all kinds of crazy reasons, but I’ve always been fairly suspicious of people. Margherita and I have been best friends and best lovers. She’s the love of my life. We have managed to both be intensely independent and maintain that strength in our relationship. I am a man, and I am an appreciator of women. At the same time, Margherita is the s—. I can honestly say we’re good together. We’ve been together for 23 years, so let’s leave it at that.”

On losing his virginity: “I was 12. She was about two years older than me. It wasn’t her first time. I can actually see the event in my mind’s eye, like photographs. It was in Dubois, Wyoming, where the population sign probably says, to this day, about 1,000. It happened literally on the ground by a river while a rodeo was going on in town. It was absolutely terrible and awkward-just two f—ing kids lying down and pulling our pants down.”

    Carrie Says:

    That’s horrific. Really horrific.

He should perhaps keep some things to himself.

What are his kids going to say when they read / hear about that? It’d be really embarassed if that was me.

Love Lost, but have to admit i’ve lost a tiny bit of respect for Matthew.

    What? Says:

So…what is he saying? That he loves his wife but runs around on her? Cause that’s what I’m getting from it.
Agreed – keep your first time to yourself dude. TMI.

    Carrie Says:

    @What?:

I get exactly what you mean. It’s the whole “i’m a man. i’m an appreciater of women.” which is a perfectly ok statement to make, but don’t then jump to talking about your 23 year marriage lol

I don’t know i’ve read other interviews with him in the past and he’s said similar things, like how his wife is ‘incredibly forgiving’ and how they ‘fight a lot, love a lot’.

    Bizarre.

Everyone has a right to his/her opinion as well as to talk about their experiences with no fear.Matt answered questions and was honest, what the hell is wrong about that? Who cares if he cheats on his wife or what are his children going to say??? Daymn…Actors are no role-models for anyone who has a brain and knows how to use it.

Love you Matty and loooooove LOST.
I really hope the writers won’t let us down,as difficult as their task is.
I’ve got a feeling that Jack will die in the end though.

Thank goodness for actors that don’t take on a cookie cutter “celebrity” persona. Matthew Fox is a kickass actor and has only gotten hotter with age. I’ll miss Lost, but it’s had a heck of a run and I’m sure the fantastic Mr. Fox here will be in more great projects in the future.

    Dreads Says:

@mary: LMAO! I thought the same damn thing HA. What’s so sexy about him? I find him rather not hot. Not my taste, sorry! And that is so true @Josie: Keep some things to yourself, DUDE!

    Whoa, there prude things! Says:

Have you guys ever READ a Playboy interview? You don’t keep things to yourself because there’d BE no interview. This is exactly the kind of thing they ask. It’s a magazine about nudity and sex (among other things), what do you expect him to answer? Start talking about Mozart?

What he does with his wife or anybody else is his business. If two people love each other but decide to not be sexually exclusive in that relationship, that’s again their business alone. We’re not all from Bumfck and Intolerranceville.

  13. 13
    Whoa there, prude things! Says:

@4 Imagine that. There are people on this planet who don’t live their lives according to YOUR principles and don’t ask your permission for it. The OUTRAGE!!! These people don’t come into your house and your life and tell you how to live YOUR life or demand that you ask their permission for your lifestyle, but you feel entitled to your butthurt outrage. Yeah… they don’t really care if you allow them to live the way they see fit so ***** away!

    mickey Says:

Sounds like the rules of their marriage allows for dalliances outside of their relationship. That’s cool if that’s what they agreed to.

    Kim Says:

Who knows if he actually slept with the stripper but if he did, it was dumb for him to deny it. Because then she will be inclined to show “proof” and then this will start all over again. He is hot though!

I love him and his honesty. You’re the s*** Foxy! And so f***ing gorgeous!

Jared, I dont know where you got your article from but I read this on Access Hollywood and he says alot more.
The ‘just two f—ing kids lying down and pulling our pants down.’ part is not there in the Access Hollywood article.
The marriage quote, before that he talks about the tabloid rumours and denies them completely.

    LOS ANGELES, Calif. —
Matthew Fox may have spent six seasons having wild adventures on “Lost,” but the star told the May 2010 issue of Playboy that his own life has had plenty of crazy moments as well.

“I was a big hell-raiser, always doing crazy s*** but always getting away with it,” he said of his childhood in Wyoming. “My mom and dad never knew about much of what I did. But one time I got into serious s*** with my old man was when I was trying to grow weed and he found it. We smoked pot and were goofing around with that kind of thing from a very early age.”

He added that he lost his virginity early – at age 12.

“I was 12. She was about two years older than me,” he said. “It wasn’t her first time… It happened literally on the ground by a river while a rodeo was going on in town…it was absolutely terrible and awkward.”

Now, though, the grown-up star told the mag he has the love of his life in wife Margherita – and denied a tabloid rumor from earlier this year that he’d cheated with a stripper.

“The story is not true, and I’m not going to comment on it.” he said. “Margherita and I have been best friends and best lovers. She’s the love of my life. We have managed to both be intensely independent and maintain that strength in our relationship. I am a man, and I am an appreciator of women. At the same time, Margherita is the s***. I can honestly say we’re good together. We’ve been together for 23 years, so let’s leave it at that.”

The star’s not often in the tabloids, and he said he prefers it that way.

“Whether it’s just in my head or true, I feel I fly under the radar. In my heart, if I ever got into a situation where paparazzi waited for me every single time I went anywhere, I would completely drop out,” he said, adding that he found being chosen as commencement speaker of his alma mater, Columbia University, in 2007, “crazy.”

“In the big scheme of things, what I do for a living is not an important thing,” he said. “I’m always surprised and stunned by how obsessed the world is with pop culture. You don’t even have to do anything anymore—just do a reality show and people will buy magazines to find out where you f****** go to eat.”

Nevertheless, no one would argue with Matthew’s stardom after six season of “Lost,” which concludes this year, and another longtime role on “Party of Five.”

“Close to 300 hours of television. That’s it for me,” he said. “‘Lost’ has been an incredible opportunity, but I don’t ever want to be committed to one single project for that amount of time again.”

Instead, the “Vantage Point” and “We Are Marshall” star said he’s looking forward to advancing his film career – and leaving “Lost’s” Hawaii sets behind for somewhere less tropical with his family.

“Oregon. I miss having four seasons,” he said. “My brothers are two of my closest friends in the world. I want to spend time with them and my mother while I can. I want our two kids to be close to their first cousins. It will be hard for the kids to leave their friends in Hawaii. They love it here, but with all respect to the good people of Hawaii who’ve been so good to us, I can’t wait to leave.”

Oh god Lost is the worst tv show. Comparing Lost to Heroes is that Heroes is a superhero tv show and Lost is just…………….lost and confusing as hell. I tried to watch the first season of Lost and I couldn’t bare to watch this piece of garbage. A show like Heroes is a superhero with superpowers to save the world. I’m happy Lost is gone who cares psssshhhh Heroes is better. Goodbye Lost.

    Heroes is ftw!!!

It really doesn’t matter what Matthew ever says. If you don’t like him, you aren’t going to like this interview. If you are fond of him, you will think this interview is alright. I honestly don’t know how so many people can judge someone by what is said in print. It’s silly if you ask me. I guess it’s a case of believing everything you read. Be careful with that guys. ;)
