Country Singer Chely Wright Comes Out

Country music singer Chely Wright has opened up about her sexuality and confirmed that she is a lesbian.

The 39-year-old singer-songwriter said that she’d never planned to be the first country artist to come out. “There had never, ever been a country music artist who had acknowledged his or her homosexuality,” Chely told People. “I wasn’t going to be the first.”

But now, Chely says, “Nothing in my life has been more magical than the moment I decided to come out.”

Chely will release a memoir, Like Me, later this week and a new album, Lifted off the Ground, soon!

is sex all they have left to talk about, y is every breaking news about whose face they are sucking face with. really, who cares, what you are doing with your sexual choices should stay with you and your sexual partner. Stop bragging about your sexual choices. Is that is all you got. I am so sick of hearing about this one and that coming out, just live your life, and I am sure your actions will confirm what the heck you are doing behind closed doors! Add more to the media discussion other than your sexual exploits of the day!

Um…Who? And, who cares?

# 4

Who is this person??? (And by the way nobody really cares or wants to know what she´s doing in the privacy of her bedroom.)

# 5

In a perfect world, it would be nice if no one cared. The reality is, society does and all she did was confirm it. Good for her, she can hopefully live at peace with herself.

# 6

“will release a memoir” so she’s just a female Ricky Martin lol. Except I didn’t even know who she was, and still don’t. Wtv, good for her I guess.

Who cares? Really, why do people feel they have to announce whether they’re gay or not. She’s gay. Rah. Next…

a **** in need of attention!

ugh who cares?? i don’t care if she’s gay or straight or anything else. it’s her life, she can do what she wants. No heterosexual ever has to come out as straight, so why should homosexuals have to? i hate how celebrities use their sexuality as publicity stunts!!

I don’t know who this girl is. Good for her, though. But then, it really shouldn’t matter these days.

Excuse me…………….K.. D. Lang was 1st.

Is this where someone gives her an award and tell her how heroic she is for coming out? Is she waiting for a big warm hug from someone?

I don’t know why people feel they should announce to the world their sexual preference. If she wanted to come out to her friends and family, dandy, but the rest of the world didn’t need to know. Now she’s going on a whirlwind tour in support of Gaydom and all that is entailed. I can hear the first question, ” How does it feel to be the first Country singer to come out?” Answer, “I was honored just to be nominated, I didn’t think I would actually win.” Followed by gushing from her and applause from the audience.

“Now that country star Chely Wright has come out, she discusses the difficulty she faced coming to grips with her self. And that includes a difficult time with bigoted fellow singer, John Rich.

“Early in my life I went through what I think a lot of gay people go through, thinking that I could change and pray it away,” said Chely.

As she tells Access Hollywood, her lowest point came during a discussion with Rich.

She divluged:

“He said, “You’re not gay are you?!” I said, “No, John, I’m not.” He said, “Good, thank God.” And that began a spiral for me. I had a meltdown shortly after that.”

It go so bad that she considered shooting herself with a loaded gun.

“I was looking at myself in a mirror…as I was about to do it. I just looked at myself and something snapped and I started to cry…and I realized I have too much to live for. I may lose my career in country music, that will break my heart, but it’s okay. I have a lot of different pieces of my heart that matter and that’s what I’ve come to learn.”

This required a press release?

Thank you, #12, for mentioning kd lang, who was the FIRST country singer to come out. I don’t even know who this chick is.

“TMZ has learned the big “coming out” announcement planned for this week will be … country star Chely Wright.

There’s been a big buzz over the last week as to which celeb was announcing he/she was gay … we knew it was going to be unveiled in PEOPLE mag next week. But now TMZ knows for sure.

Wright has a book coming out this week as well — it’s called, “Like Me.” And she has a CD coming out too — called “Lifted Off the Ground.”

The 39-year-old singer scored a #1 country song back in 1999 with “Single White Female,” when she was named Academy of Country Music new artist of the year.

Wright is the first major country artist ever to come out. She has been romantically linked to a number of celebs, including Brad Paisley.

Interesting … she lists Howard Bragman as her publicist, who was the mastermind behind the Chaz Bono story.

Mystery solved.”

Read what Nate posted in reply 14 before posting “who cares” and demeaning the coming out process. Gays and lesbians are hated by bigots like country star John Rich just for being who they are and how they were born .

If it wasn’t still a stigma and gays and lesbians were just accepted as people, this wouldn’t be an issue.

Hello?? KD LANG??!! She broke into the country music scene being as out as anybody can be! It didn’t hinder her success on bit from what I can tell.
