Miley Cyrus looks fierce as she escapes from a bird cage in her new “Can’t Be Tamed” music video.
The 17-year-old pop sensation teamed up with writers Tim James and Antonina Armato, director Robert Hales and choreographer Jamal Sims to create the edgy video.
“The video isn’t about being sexy or about who can wear less clothes,” Miley has said. “It’s about explaining the song and living the lyrics… I don’t want to be in a cage. I want to be free and do what I love.”

The thoughts of her still being associated with Disney scares me. She should of waited until she turned 18 and Hannah Montana is officially over. Whether she likes it or not she’s still loved by millions of children and I just don’t think the lyrics and the content of the video is appropriate for Disney. But as an adult the video is entertaining and she looks absolutely beautiful and edgy. Without a doubt this will be instant hit for her.

Looking at the video itself, its pretty well done, I mean its not that bad compared to other videos out there and it fits the song pretty well, even if the music itself is ******. But, if you look at her background and where she came from, this video was definitely NOT a good idea. I get that she wants to grow up and everything, but its like she’s basically saying to her younger fans, “screw you, I don’t need you anymore.” For someone who found fame from those fans, she’s completely disrespecting them.
Oh and of course, since Britney was 17 when ‘Baby One More Time’ came out, it makes this entire video ok..NOT. -.-

I thought the concept matched the song and I thought the video was awesome. As much as we’d like for her to stay in a box until we think it’s okay for her to grow up, she just told us herself she can’t be tamed and she’s not gonna stay in that cage. Obviously, her parents are okay with it, so best you can do is if you have kids and you hate her, don’t let them watch the video or anything else associated with her.

This is a beautiful video. The tone and colors were striking and she definitely got her point across. I have to say that as an adult who’s watched Miley grow up I was watching this with my jaw on the ground lol. I disagree with some of the other people commenting: I don’t think that she’s not grateful for her Disney fans, she has to move on at some point. Even if she waited until she was 18 (6 months from now) people would be griping about it being too soon. She can’t please everyone.

She’s trying to hard to be Britney.. it reminded me of “Slave For You” in some parts, the moves, the faces, the way the people surrounded her at some points.
I think this COULD have been an amazing video, great story, great costumes, and good choreography but Miley just didn’t deliver. The girl is just not sexy I’m sorry, and it has nothing to do with her age. She just seems awkward to me.Like the part at the beginning when the guy takes a picture of her, any other “diva” could of gave some seriously fierce itchface , but no, she just gave the same sucking on a lemon face that shes always rocking. Can she give any other facial expression? And when she put her leg over the nest and rubbed it…just…no. I mean what could have been a great video was ruined by her lack of acting and dancing ability. I mean the choreographed part was decent but any other time its almost like she has no idea what she is doing. But kudos to the creator of this video it was a great concept just poorly executed.
I just feel bad for all of the Hannah Montana fans out there [I'm talking about the young ones] who are completely innocent and look up to her because the truth is—-Miley doesn’t like them, she like’s their money. She’s said many rude things in interviews that a “Role Model” wouldn’t say. In fact, it one interview she said that she “Is trying to break away from the Hannah Montana look” and that she gets annoyed when the fans refer to her as Hannah Montana-those were not exact words (thats why they weren’t in quotes) but that was what was under the words that she used. Also, in a video recently made, she’s said “I’m wearing purple because I’m on Hannah Montana otherwise I’d be wearing black because I always wear black” or something like that. If a little kid watches this video, their going to be confused because she’s wearing a disgusting outfit and swearing but yet expects a little kid to buy hr CD. “We can make magic” Do you really want your 8 year old listening to this type of music? I think not.
Yes, i understand that Miley is trying to “Break-away from the Hannah Montana Scene”, but I REALLY think she should’ve waited until HM was finally over—–there’s still another season left of it which means another generation of fans (and the same fans following her all along) will be wanting to buy her CD’s and lunch boxes, and bags, and etc. I dont think it’s fair to these kids to say your trying to be a good role model but then in the midle [[and the highest point]] of her carrier just end the role model thing and change into a totally different person. Why is it OK for a 16 or 17 year old who is really smart be allowed to jump ahead a grade in school or go to college, but let a 17 1/2 year old girl who is sexually and emotionally mature and and has good business sense not be allow to do a slightly sexy video. Also, when Miley talks about the fans who are growing up with her, she talking about the ones who were her age when she started Hannah Montana, and have grow with her. Most are now 16t o 20 years old now, not 5 to 12. Those current young fans who everyone keeps talking about, didn’t even know who Miley was when Hannah Montana first aired. You say she should wait. So if she waits lets say 2 more years, she picks up even more young fans. Does she wait 2 more years, then 2 more years after that. Hannah Montana will have 101 episodes when it’s done so it will be syndicated, so their will always be young fans. She can’t keep holding back because of young fans, she has to move forward at some point, and if the careers of past teen stars is any indication, she has to move fast and now, not 6 months, or a year or two from now. She is no longer in the same league as other teen stars, she is in the league with the Katy Perry’s and Gaga’s. Look at her Miley Cyrus album sales (not the Hannah Montana ones), radio air play, song on Billboard. She has had far more success than any of her peers. Her Movies do well, mostly because she is the star. The Last Song did as well or better as several movies recently that stared major established “A” Lister’s.

First of all, let me say this: I actually like the IDEA of the song, not changing for the world or your boyfriend or whoever/whatever it may be, staying true to who you are and what makes you unique.
That said, there’s nothing wrong with the concept. What urks me is 1) some of the lyrics come across as conceited, like she thinks she’s all that. . .

The colors, costumes, and story to the video are pretty interesting, however it seems, like somewhere at some point in time it’s been done before. There really isn’t anything original about it. You add the fact that she’s still selling her Barbies, dress-up costumes, candy and her “look! I just made a joke and isn’t it funny? hahahaha!” Disney series is still running on television and it just feels like an altogether bad move on her part, toward a career she (no offense intended) probably shouldn’t have in the first place. Considering, however, that she does have a career, I think it would have been wiser to transition into the world of Adult-Contemporary pop or whatever you want to call it, at a slower pace AFTER her stint as the teenybopper on Disney was over. Let people get used to the idea of her being done with middle school for awhile, let it sit and simmer and prepare them for it. When she rushes into things, she has a tendency to look like a cheap copycat and this only indulges the negativity people have toward her. She makes it worse for herself.

@Rachel: Well The Blonds were one of the the jewelry, headress & costume designers for both Gaga & Adam — and now Miley, for this video — for some reason she specifically wanted them — and with the feathers thing, it’s like a trend now — Kelis, Kesha…….Miley. If Miley looks like she’s ripping anyone off, you can’t blame her. She didn’t choreograph or direct the scenes or edit the video.

Look, I’m in my 20′s and I don’t particularly like all this teeny bopper crap that’s out at the moment. But I was a little girl when Britney Spears came out and she was about 17 and wore the EXACT same kind of clothes and had that kind of ‘sexy’ to her video and million of people in my age group looked up to Britney and we have all turned out just fine. So I’m sure her dressing up sexy isn’t going to hurt anyone. She’s still a positive role model and she’s at the age of wanting to show her femininity and the fact that she’s almost an adult.

To be honest everyone talking about Disney being for kids and truth be told Walt Disney has been turning in his grave for a while now because new age Disney has been pushing the edge in their supposedly child/kid/family friendly programming a lot lately. Especially, since they have hooked up with ABC and Sony. Therefore, to me the only thing that is close to the original innocent child-like/family friendly Disney is at the theme parks.

I loved it. I thought it was something we haven’t really seen/unique. i really liked the dance and her sass. if she was new on the scene and same age people would be loving it more, she has the best of the best people working with her. i thought it looked awesome.

To tell you the truth I didn’t exactly think this video was “sexy” it was more just kinda…..odd in a Lady Gaga type of way. I really did think the video was going to be 10x sexier and parents would be all up her @ss for it but it really wasn’t as bad as I thought.
You guys need to realize, yes she has little kids look up to here but years from now when she’s 21-22 years old little kids are still going to be looking up to her. It has nothing to do with the fact that she’s 17. If she did this video when she was 18 people would be saying she should have waited until she was 21. It just isn’t true. I’m conflicted. At first I liked it but as it went on it felt like too much. The video felt very Gaga and was beautiful and artistic and matched the song but some of the posturing was too much for her. Not because of her age but because of who she is and who we’ve seen her to be. It was a little uncomfortable to watch Miley trying to be sophisticated sexy instead of of young and free sexy (ala Party in the USA).
I guess I’m trying to say this is too much too soon.
As the mother of a 17 year old girl, I can relate to her wanting “to grow up”. It’s a normal right of passage to feel that way. Where are her parents to guide her?? There are many things that my daughter wants to do and wear that we (her parents) have to step in and say “no…. it’s not appropriate”. We have to show her ways to express herself and make her feel “grown up” without exploiting herself or conceding to what society says is “grown up”. My daughter also teaches and works with young children (5-12 yr olds)…. like Mylie, she has a responsibility to those kids who look up to her. Mylie is on a world-wide circuit… she should be ashamed of herself for abusing that power to only make HERSELF feel better. To Mylie: Timing is everything, Sweetheart: you are way too young for this kind of representation of yourself and you owe it to those who made you what you are to stick to the squeaky clean image until you are at least 21. There’s no shame in that. You’d have the respect of so many more people than you do now. What’s the rush to “grow up”? Part of growing up is maturity and self-control, seeing your responsibilities through, and not always pleasing your own needs first. You are NOT grown up and dressing skimpy or doing edgy videos doesn’t make you any more grown up either. she always looks like someone playing at being a pop star, not one who was actually believable as one. it was fine when she was a kid on a disney show, but if you’re going to play with the big kids and try to be a “real” artist, you’ve gotta bring more than this. not saying she hasn’t improved a leetle since hannah montana, but it’s a very leetle. she moves awkwardly and could probably benefit from more intensive dance lessons.

Thought the video was tastefully done not anything like the story was portraying. Miley has been saying that was time to move on and this is a start. Her parents have got alot of control over her career and her best interest to protect her from the ones out to exploit her as a growing young woman. Still more clothes worn in the video than the kids are wearing to school today. Good job Miley.

I love Miley Cyrus as an actress and as an artist. I so happened to have loved this video aswell. It showed who she really is. And the lyrics really express her. I don’t understand why people are always judging her. She’s almost going to be an adult! She was neither trying too hard, nor acting like something/someone she’s not. If you’re not a fan, or don’t agree with her decisions then don’t even bother!

I think she is a little young to sing songs about being this sexually confident. When I was in high school, the most sexually confident girl was still naive and scared of rejection. It makes her sound insincere i.e. “fake”. I am surprised she went the Brittney route and not the Taylor Swift route. She is just as popular, and I feel more sincere, and will make an easier transition to more mature song content.
Ok Miley, WE GET IT. You’re trying to show the world that your a big girl now. But in all honesty, this is too far a jump. Just because you don’t want want to have the Disney Channel star label, doesn’t mean that you have to do exactly what all the other past Disney stars (Christina, Britney…) did. Even as an adult mother of a teenage girl, I don’t see anything wrong with this video. She’s actually wearing a lot more than what passes for clothing these days and her dance moves are not overtly sexual. I think those worrying about how their younger children might react should step up as parents and do their job: if they don’t like what they see, don’t let their children watch it, if they do, then explain to the difference between art and reality.

Have an 8 year old that loves MIley. Miley gets famous off the kids and then goes and does something like this to prove to herself shes all grown up. First, dressing half naked and trying to be dark and edgy doesn’t equal, grown up. Second, she needs to take herself out of anything having to do with entertaining kids. Are you people who are bagging this kidding me? It’s too raunchy? There are kids out there younger than Miley doing a lot worse than making a music video. Parents should be role models to their kids not celebrity’s, so for people to say she should be a role model and stay a child forever, it’s unrealistic. Miley has grown up, and there is nothing raunchy about it, what about when Britney first came out, no one commented on her as being too sexy and she was half naked in every video. As a kid I never looked up to celebrities as my role models, i don’t know what the world is coming to… everyone is obsessed with celebrity. I think that she is just growing up and in that young adult stage that we all go through. She is going to have to make her transition at some point, and it seems to be now. We cannot force her to be a little girl forever. I wish it was less sexy, but she is a beautiful young woman. We as parents have to walk a fine line, and I am not one to judge her or her parents. I have a wayward child and one that is not, and I try to guide them and love them, and pick up the pieces with them when they fall. Give Miley some space to grow.

Everyone should know by now that you can’t look up to famous people as a role model. Firstly you don’t really know then. All you know about then is what the press tells you. If your looking for a role model for the young kids in your neighborhood then YOU be one for them. There isn’t enough people doing it anyways. That’s why these kids look to the famous when they shouldn’t be. That’s why there are so many kids doing drugs and making the wrong choices. Cause they don’t look at the people that are real in their lives as a role model.

And for those saying “it’s not a good image for a Disney kid” – well, there isn’t much that comes from Disney that is appropriate for children that doesn’t in some way feed into negative stereotypes and give little, if any, education to young children whatsoever. So jump off the “Disney is great” bandwagon and go to the library. Miley Cyrus is just another branch off the dying Disney tree.

I actually love the concept. It’s artistic and different. However, as nice as it is that she is branching out and experimenting, the song was not good.
And although she may be close to 18, she is still a minor. And some of her choreography was inappropiate. Yes, she is virtually done with Disney, but maybe she should’ve waited until her contract was officially over to imitate Britney Spears’ actions. But keep in mind, we all knew this was going to happen eventually, so there’s isn’t THAT MUCH of a difference between her doing the video now and doing the video 6 months from now or even a year from now!

Que hipocrisia levar o nome de sua personagem em sua autobiografia quando o livro se diz respeito apenas a vida da atriz e cantora Miley Cyrus. E quanto a essa criticas inúteis eu digo: Miley não virou famosa parar ser mãe de ninguem, para dar exemplo para ninguem. Ela não faz mas Hannah e agora esta virando adulta, qurendo atingir um público não só de crianças, ela não pode mais ser comparada e nem dita como mal exemplo. I think it is great to see Miley doing something with a bit more substance and a little less fluff. It was artistic and well done. Eventaully, she has to hit the pop mainstream or she will disappear. It is business marketing and that is all there is to it. Releasing this now instead of in a few months when she turns 18 is marketing genius because of all the publicity it will get, simply because of her age. Miley Cyrus grew up a long time ago, thanks to Disney, so it is only fair that she gets to capitolize on that for the next phase of her career.

This is a great example of disrespect and trying too hard. When Miley first came out into the world as Hannah Montana, she gained tons of fans that cheered her on through the period of time she needed before she was really on top of the world. To be perfectly honest I really like this song. It has a nice beat in my opinion. Some of the lyrics are…how should I say this..there a little inappropriate for younger children, like the ones who look up to her because of her role on Hannah Montana. But overall, I really like this song.
I admit I’m not the hugest Miley fan, but I think this video was well done. So her clothes showed a lot of skin but if you dont like it dont watch it. I can understand parents point of view but you dont have to let your kids watch it. heck a I was completly comfortable watching this with my mother and I’ve got to say ive been ashamed to even be in another room from were some of these music videos have played. I mean have you seen lady gaga, beyonce, or cristiana.

People don’t realize how good of an artist this girl is. Just because Miley is growing into a gorgeous young lady and wants to explore her music more all u people have nothing better to do than bash her and others. Her music is catchy, origional well written and performed, but all u can say is how trashy it is and has become. Yes Disney boosted he career and she made it big due to it, but it doesn’t give people the right to tell her she can’t make music like this just because it’s not suitable for her younger fans. Music is about feeling what’s insde of u and expressing it. Millions of bands throughout the years wouldn’t be known world wide if they listened to critics about what they can and can’t wear or what they can or can’t say, write or sing. Do u people change urselves just because someone doesn’t like the way u are; I highly doubt it. I commend her for following what she wants to do with her music and she shouldn’t be limited by the age group of fans she started with. Because there will be millions upon millions who will love her for who she is and someone like myself who appreciates music for what it is, will remain one of thos millions.

It seems just like yesterday she was on Hannah Montanna being Miley with Lily and Oliver getting into trouble with the catch phrase “Sweet Niblets.” This video is a total 180 turn from what she was like when she was 14. She seems a little bit young to be doing a video like this but it’s what she wants and she wants to grow out of the character she has made for herself when she was younger.
I really think that Miley has grown up and will be making videos like this but she needs to first finish Hannah Montana and then she can do these videos… I use to be a huge fan of Miley but because of the innappropriate pictures she did made me uninterested so I stopped watching. But now on Disney channel… Little kids were interviewed and said that they don’t like how her video makes her look older. And the parents said that they are worrying about their kids to make sure that try don’t follow Miley’s video of her being sexy. I just hope that kids don’t look up to her video now and follow her trying to be sexy.

I love Miley, but this video was a little too much for me. I love the uniqueness of it, but I’m 16- and I can’t imagine myself dancing around in that outfit a year from now. Or ever two years from now! I understand she doesn’t wanna be a little kid anymore, but it wouldn’t kill her to hold back a few years before releasing a video that contradicting. And I don’t care what some people may claim, MOST 17 year olds do NOT dress like that. Miley is my one of my role models, but now I’m just not sure that the person I saw in that music video is someone worthy of being looked up to.
I am highly offended with most people making comments about how this is wrong for kids to watch: I was shown this by my 11 year old friend, who I babysit. She said she liked it because of Miliy Cyrus’s wings, and the idea of being in a flock of giant birds. She sees more racy stuff at school!
She’s trying to prove that she’s not a kid anymore and break out of the kid mold… like most young people her age… so no one can really blame her. I liked the video and the song was pretty cool as well. She’s been Hannah Montana for over 4 years, which is longer than most people can retain any other type of job.
