Natalie Portman: The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo?

Natalie Portman keeps her head down and hides underneath her Nike cap as she arrives at LAX airport on Saturday (May 8) in Los Angeles.

The 28-year-old actress possibly might star as Lisbeth in director David Fincher‘s upcoming film adaptation of Swedish author Stieg Larsson‘s Millennium trilogy (the first being The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo).

Deadline reports other big name actresses are also up for the role including Carey Mulligan, Ellen Page, Kristen Stewart, Mia Wasikowska, Keira Knightley, Anne Hathaway, Olivia Thirlby, and Scarlett Johansson.

I love Natalie. I really do. But there is no way she could pull of the role of Lisbeth. In fact I don’t think any of the actresses listed (many of whom I like) could pull it off. They need an unknown and ideally a Swede, that is if they are still planning on setting the movie in Sweden. I hate that the are Americanizing this movie. Why can’t native English speakers just watch movies with subtitles?? And I am native English speaker before you start attacking me for my comment.

Dman! Is Hollywood going to make a remake of every good foreign movie?!? What’s going on with filmmaking in the States.

@lola:
Exactly. Is it because of subtitles? Is it just creativity going to waste? Where did the amazing american screenwriters and directors go? Fantastic movies are rare from americans lately.

if she gets this role…she’ll be in 2 movies with Brad Pitt

Oh please no!!!!!!!!!!!! Natalie Portman is way too beautiful to be Lisbeth Salander!!!! All those other actresses listed are WRONG as well! Scarlett Johansson and her big boobs? Lisbeth Salander is supposed to be anorexic looking, she even gets implants in the second book. Keira Knightley???? Absolutely NOT at ALL! Way too gorgeous! Cast an unknown!!!!!

# 7

And Ellen Page? Ew, Juno can NOT play Lisbeth Salander!!! Lisbeth is skinny and scrawny and not traditionally beautiful. These girls would be all wrong for the part, even Natalie is nowhere near tough enough for the role, no matter how much I like her. Natalie’s voice is far too sweet.

oh, on an unrelated note, Natalie probably just arrived from Paris, since she is carrying a bag from Laduree…

are you kidding me natalie portman can play this role she def is anorexic have you seen her body lately boyish nothing and in these pix another very young nice look shes showing off she never looks good never ever

All these options are awful. Maaaybe Ellen Page would be ok, but really they should cast an unknown.

looks like she took her grammas coat and wrapped a belt around it she has no style whatsoever

I have watch all 3 of those The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo..and there is no American actress who’ll be able to match the performance of that Swedish actress. She was phenomenal.
Natalie Portman..cast as Lisbeth. FAIL.

Natalie Portman, Ellen Page, or Mila Kunis would all be perfect for the role. Natalie is a little older than Lisbeth, but she looks so young so that doesn’t matter.

The Swedish version has already been released in theatres in North America. People just don’t want to watch it.

@lola: totally agreed with you about all

Noomi Rapace was amazing as Lisbet Salander! Why change this? Much as I love Natalie, this is all wrong. HW should stay away from this movie. It’s been done, it’s been done good and an American remake is a terrible idea. What’s wrong with reading the subtitles!
Brilliant trilogy! I read all three – unputtadownable!

If the choise is between the actresses mentioned Ithink that K-Stew is the only one of them that could do the part of Lisbeth Salander justice. but that’s my thoughts.

@Abby850:
No creativity! They have to steal it from other countries!

Natalie’s Unofficial website has already stated Natalie will not be doing this role

Nice to see her here, More Natalie please

I don’t think anyone of those girls that’s up for the role, can play lisbeth salander =S.. They need to find someone that short and thin. I agree with the one who said they should cast an unknown person.

From the reviews it seems the Swedish version is very good. I don’t think America is ready for the American version since there are several rapes scenes and lots of sex. If you look at the reviews that appears to be the #1 complaint – the sexual violence. I would imagine those who haven’t read the book are appalled by it and those who have are probably unnerved by actually having to watch.

Love Natalie but I don’t think she or anyone of the actresses mentioned could pull it off. In fact, we should leave this one alone!

What the hell is up with the title- it doesn’t show a deeper theme AT ALL!

@lola:
I’m totally agree with you, Lola. Who needs to discover America ones more? The Swedish version is well enough and because of world famous stars they think it will be something better. No way!

She looks like a BEGGAR. Had never seen someone so tasteless
