Greyson Chance is the latest YouTube phenomenon to score a record deal. At just 12-years-old!
The big-voiced sixth grader, who has attracted nearly 14 million views on YouTube with his rendition of Lady Gaga’s “Paparazzi,” has reportedly signed with Interscope Records but no confirmation from the label has been made. (Greyson has taken piano lessons for three years but has never taken voice lessons.)
CrazedHits reports that “Interscope [chairman] Jimmy Iovine closed the deal before any other label could even step in and meet the kid.”

Wow, that’s great. I’m not sure he’s that talented though. I mean, he’s great and all, but there’s nothing special. He doesn’t have that star quality. I don’t know, I personally don’t see him being the next Justin Beiber. It’s just too soon. I mean, he goes on singing in a run-of-the-mill middle school talent show, puts the video on YouTube, and then 3 days later he signs a record deal with Interscope – a record company that manages Eminem, Gwen Stefani and Lady gaga, to name a few? Whatever..

He’s been invited to perform on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” this Thursday. According to his bio on his YouTube profile, Greyson is “very inspired by Lady Gaga and Augustana.”
Greyson additionally explains: “Lady Gaga is a freak but she has so much talent and her style of music is what I would like mine to be when I’m older. Augustana is one of the most underrated bands I think ever to step the planet. They have so much talent it is not funny. They have such a good concept with folk and rock. It is very sad that they are so unknown.”
Greyson may look like a Justin Bieber clone with his sideswept-banged bowl cut, but with musical taste like that, clearly this boy is no prepubescent pop robot. This kid is deep. (His aforementioned original song “Stars” is about a woman who dies of cancer and meets her husband in heaven, for instance–not exactly “One Less Lonely Girl,” huh?) Today’s tween fangirls would be way better off worshipping a role model like Greyson over Bieber–and judging from the flustered way the girls react in the background of his recital clip, such wide-scale worship may not be far off.
After Greyson’s upcoming “Ellen” appearance, surely countless more tweens will be his biggest fans, following him until he loves them.”
Now…american idol would be great if they had talent like this. He would instantly be the winner lol

A rare talent indeed, the record company did a real smart move in grabbing him before others got to him. He’s a winner for sure, Watch out Bieber and that goes for you too, Gaga. He’s going to outshine the both. Looking at his sibling and mother on the Ellen show, I know he’s going to grow up into a good looking young man. Love his vocals, so effortless.
He is talented but he’s still a KID! TWELVE! Why are they signing him at this age? That’s just insane to me.

I hope his parents protect him from being shaped and molded into being something he is not – a Disneyfied product – like what has happened to Bieber. If he is talented, he needs to develop himself, live a normal life, get really good training and an education, then go on to make millions when he has his own voice.

Piano playing is good if he really did only take lessons for 3 yrs and his voice is okay, but I don’t see his performance as being fabulous or worthy of a record deal. — I’ve seen better.

I don’t think he will replace Bieber, but he is a heck of a lot better! He can sing very good. He actually sings instead of rapping or as I call it talking fast. He has some mad skills at playing the piano too. I prefer to hear someone actually sing instead of acting like they can. True musical talent is hard to find. This guy is awesome. I am actually glad someone knocked Beiber off off Twitter. How much more can you say about another white kid trying to be black. Beiber has too much of an attitude for me.

I love that Lady Gaga called hom on Ellen to encourage him. he says she is his inspiration. I don’t blame him. Yu can’t go wrong with that song. It is so catchy, melodic and lovely. She does a version of it acoustic too and it is out of this world. Wow, Lady Gaga is really taking over. Wow. We love you Gaga! And Justin: great job. He sounds wonderful. I love the girls in the back watching him. lol. Gaga revolution continues!

Why is it going to be Bieber fans VS Greyson fans? It shouldn’t be either. Yes, Greyson could be the next SENSATION but Bieber is Bieber and Greyson is Greyson. He’s 12, Bieb’s 15 so there is an age difference. But if you want my honest opinion (which I am entiled to) I think Greyson is on his way to being bigger than Justin. They are only similar by how they started and their hair. No other way. But if Greyson has hit 14 mil in less than two weeks and Justin has vids that are way over that but after many months. What does that tell you? Anyway much success to Greyson. I think it’s gone to Bieber’s head too much and its starting to show.

I think it’s a crisp and clean alternative. A lot softer than Gagas acoustic version, but i like both equally and that’s saying a lot.
Fisrt off, no doubt that this kid is super talented. I was blown away when i first saw this, I even thought that he sounded a lot like gaga in the beginning of the video.
But i feel like he is being thrust into super stardom waaaaay too fast. i mean, this was on the news, the aol home page anyway, the day after it hit youtube. he’s so young! he’s not even a teenager yet. who’s to say he even truly wanted to get signed? Being so young and naive, the record execs probably pressured him into it, making a life of super stardom seem all glamorous, while most likely sweet talking the parents as well. who, if i was them, i would NOT have agreed to this. being in the industry so damn young is what effs these people up. so i really feel sorry for this kid. I mean, he’s basically gonna be going through puberty in the public eye. who wants that? and you know they are so going to market him as the next bieber, bc, look at his fanbase. No doubt greyson has replaced biebs on the TT on twitter thanks to all of the bieber fan girls.

@Shantell: I agree with you and everyone that made similar points. He’s being thrown into this machine that chews these kids up and spits them out and they’re not old enough to handle that. I wish him well and I hope his parents stick around, advocating for his best interest, which should be to live as healthy and normal a life as possible whether or not he continues to be in the public eye.

I think his parents should have done a little looking around first, I mean, to sign the first deal sounds kind of stupid. I also hope his parents have good heads on their shoulders and realize that the music industry will use you up and spit you out, so they’d better take care of him. He’s only 12. You can not compare the singers, everyone has their own way. Justin has a great voice too-he plays many instruments very well. Right now, Justin is a bit carried away but I’m sure he will come back. This Greyson has amazing talent too. They are born with it!!! They have to use it…they have to be friends not foes..media should just let them be.
He’s talented
This kid has a much better voice than Justin Bieber, whether he becomes a bigger star is still to be seen. Having a great voice doesn’t always translate to the biggest stardom. There are incredible singers who are unknown and those like Britney Spears who cannot even sing live but is a huge star.
I don´t think, that he is the next Justin Bieber.
Justin is cool, very good looking, sweet and has a very lovely charm.
And Greyson has nothing of them.
And I don´t think that hes is a competitor for Justin. Justins mentor are Usher, Justins music label . DefJam is the best in the world for his music style RNB/Hipp Hopp, and some of the best artists like Rihanna, Redman, Ludacris, Mariah Carey are also on that label.
And Greyson has a different music style.
He’s nothing special. He doesn’t stand out except for the fact that he appeared on Ellen. His singing is average, nothing better.

He has so much more creative fueling than Justin Bieber, in my opinion. But he’s already EVERYWHERE, so as long as he maintains a good attitude and creating good music, and works hard to stay at the top, I think he’ll be able to be a hit for quite awhile. =)
I just hope that he doesn’t fade within months time and isn’t just a viral sensation that has only 15 minutes to stay in the limelight. People really like him, so I’m sure he’ll be able to maintain a well grounded career. :D

No way of knowing, but I doubt Interscope will have him recording right away. He’s got real innate talent, and Interscope is smart in grabbing him now, when they can guide him, and shape his voice and performance into a real star power.
