Temptations' Ali-Ollie Woodson: Dead at 58

Ali “Ollie” Woodson, former lead singer of The Temptations, died after battling cancer on Sunday (May 30) in southern California.

The 58-year-old co-wrote, co-produced and sang lead on the 1984 Temptations single “Treat Her Like a Lady.”

Ollie was not an original member of the group but sang lead from 1984 to 1986, and from 1988 to 1996.

In late 2008, Ollie was diagnosed with leukemia and hospitalized for several weeks.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his friends and family. RIP!

Jared: Ollie was not part of the original line-up of The Temptations. He joined the group in 1984 and did not perform with them after 1996 so he was not the one who sang My Girl, etc the original version – just FYI. But RIP to him.

I’m seeing more black men die before age 60 than a little bit. It’s a shame because a lot of them look fairly youthful, but they are plagued with high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease and prostate cancer. It seems like in my life, those things are so common. I know so many who are in bad health at such a young age. I know everybody needs to take care of themselves, but I’ve really noticed that black men tend to die younger.

Art Linkletter was old, so he had a good full life. If you make it at least to your seventies, that’s pretty good. Dennis Hopper was very lucky to do that with all the abuse he had done to his body. He was still sorta handsome too.

I’m very surprised to see read about Mr. Woodson’s passing on THIS blog. Regardless, rest in peace sir. No other voice could’ve blessed the song, “Treat her like a lady” and it become a classic Temptation song………singing “I like opening doors, picking up her hankie off the floor..treat her like a lady…light the cigarette that she smokes, even help her with her coat..treat her like a lady

This man was a singer’s singer. When you heard his voice you know who was singing. Listen to “Some Enchanted Evening” by the Temptations. Listen to his beautiful smooth offering mixed with his rough baritone/tenor voice and then hear his soprano riffs. Singers come and singers go. His voice will live on in the songs we are blessed with. God Bless Ollie Ali Woodson. R.I.P.
