MTV: Sorry for Movie Awards Swearing!

MTV: Sorry for Movie Awards Swearing!

The 2010 MTV Movie Awards was chock full of curse words on Sunday night (June 6). Over 100 curse words in the 122-minute telecast!

The network just released the statement for its poor job of censoring the swearing:

“The MTV Movie Awards is a live televised event known for irreverent comedy and a party atmosphere where our guests speak more freely than they otherwise might. While we aired the live broadcast with a delay, we were unable to mute every word that some might find objectionable. All of these words will be muted in subsequent airings. We sincerely apologize to those in our audience who were offended by any objectionable words that might have slipped by for the live airing.”

WERE YOU offended by all of the cussing during the ceremony?

Peter F. was SO funny at the end, when the Twilight cast got the award for Best Movie, and he made the speech for all.

  • alison

i wasn’t offended it was kind of funny, but most of the show was stupid

  • f***

No, I was more offended that MTV was sucking up to Twilight and MTV Movie Awards had departed 1981 – 2010.

  • Kenisha

The only thing that offended me was Kristen Stewart, what an awkward person. She seems to have no regard for the public. She needs new PR stat!

  • Infamous

    I wasnt offended

  • snotty

no way best show ever, tom rocked it he was great it was so funny he shoud do more off this

  • S@n

I’m offended about THE WORST SHOW of the last years!

  • swan

it was one of the worst shows ever!!!! really boring and very predictable
thank god for sandra bullock for meaking the show bearable
i really did watch it just for her
the whole show was pretty pointless as Twilight won everything. They didn’t have nay of the bog names in hollywood. I mean the biggest movies of 2009-2010 have been Iron Man, Avatar, Alice in Wonderland, Transformers and others. Yet none of it’s start were there. Only twilight people and maybe a few good people, like Paul Rudd and Sandra.

Overall if was awfully and a truly boring show. Tom Cruise was also very lame

  • http://justjared guest

Yes, I was surprised a bit. I wasn’t expecting a “church show”, but after awhile it was too much. I didn’t think it showed Hollywood in a great light.

  • marilyn

offended, not hardly. nothing i haven’t heard a thousand times before.

  • skeezy

Clearly you live in a cave because people cuss all the time. You must be some 40 yr old virgin who doesn’t get out much

  • http://Ilovejenniferandbenbothgreatpeopleiwishthemthebest Sarah

no who cares if they swear there on mtv not disney channel

  • Felicity

this is so typically american ;) I don’t think anyone was offended. It’s just swear words, people! and nobody was offended directly, so everything’s cool :)

  • Pinkrose

So much swearing, just for the sake of swearing is stupid and pointless. Swearing has its place but most of these people are just unintelligent and vapid and just trying to be with it..

  • sharyllee

    it sucked!!

  • Butter_Fly

I didn’t watch it but cussing doesn’t offend me, but I think too many people cuss just just cuss…like the above poster said. I think I’m the only person that doesn’t.

  • Butter_Fly

    *just to* haha! Crap!

  • ck_always

I wanted to watch it, but I didn’t. I don’t think I will after hearing some of these other views. Cussing shouldn’t matter, this is MTV. Especially in this day and age, kids are learning and using these words in grade school. I also don’t think anyone takes the MTV Movie Awards seriously, seeing as the ‘awards’ are voted on by the public. Which means tweens are going to click their little fingers off and get Twilight etc in the winnings. Unfortunately for that Twilight guy and the others, they’ll be forever shamed into this burden for the rest of their lives I just find it funny how public evidence such as thus is shown yet people are still shocked to learn this latest generation of kids is one of the worst in recent past.

  • ck_always

Oh and who’s the guy in the picture? He’s very good looking.

  • http://rachelgilchrist Rachel

I love watching the awards every year, but I do think the language and some of the sexual stuff that goes on is totally out of line. There’s no reason you have to swear to make things funny.

  • mailey

it wasnt offensive. but the excessiveness was unecessary, juvenile and just stupid.

  • paddisonluvr

It’s the MTV Movie Awards, we don’t watch it for class acts. Although – the speech that was most memorable was Sandy B’s acceptance speech, which included 0 swears. But I get it, the whole thing is supposed to be outrageous and trashy. Aziz was hilarious though.

  • Davidd

It doesn’t offend me one bit. They did have the disclaimer so if it did offend you, well you shouldn’t be watching then. The only thing that offended me was freaking Twilight winning all the awards that should of went to movies that deserved it, c’mon people that movie that movie can’t be better than The Hangover.

  • Lali

lol, i think that was the best part of the show!
and i agree with Davidd !!! I love the book, but the movie suuuucks!

  • Dave

Its the MTV awards, what do you expect Bible Readings?

  • Tyler

I wasn’t offended but i think the awards show really showed how stupid and unfunnny the people were that were getting all their laughs from saying curse words. I don’t know why they would use so many, it isn’t even shocking anymore to hear curse words on television like it was in the 90′s. That show made me feel like I was sitting in a middle school cafeteria. Not to mention the whole show was just a huge advertisement for twilight.

    Hello everyone,

I would like to tell you about free web hosting service I use now.
    Register here:

They give 1500 MB of disk space and 100 GB data transfer. I am now using them for about 3 months and never seen any downtime of server problems. There is no any kind of advertising on my pages too, so I think its worth to signup.

  • fox

i really didnt mind the cussing. its natural…but i did find it annoying that they had to bleep everything out. I’d like to watch a show where I didnt have to sit through a buncha bleeps every 5 seconds…i mean seriously?? whats the point of watching it if its gonna be censored throughout the ENTIRE show

  • kk309

with all the muting it got very annoying and made me want to flip the channel

  • cindy

i was more upset that mark was cussing during that one boys speech. he was really trying to make a speech thanking his girlfriend and mom, and there was marky mark just cussing away. that was rude. i didnt care about the rest because its mtv but i did feel bad for that guy from harry potter.

  • jessica

i wasn’t offended & idont think people should be because it was all about laughs haha

  • Beam

@skeezy: it’s a fact that people curse all the time, I do curse every once in a while, but it’s always nice to be more classy when you are speaking in front of a couple millions of people watching you and at a special event, you know, that’s what we call class, but as I see, not everyone knows what it is. Anyways, that dude cursed a lot yeah, and I think it wasn’t really funny, more like useless.

  • Beam

But people do have strange taste. you like lots of cursing and you made TWILIGHT win best movie. what ?

  • tastiger

Sandra Bullock saved the show for me…not one swear word and such a class act. Swearing for a reason isn’t objectionable but the way it was flaunted as the norm was stupid and juvenile.

  • Joan

I think the only people who would have found it offensive are those who hate swearing and those who hate Twilight…cause it was full of both…he he he!

  • NG

The question was weather you were offended by the swearing, not do you hate Twighlight, or did you like the show. Anyways, back to the point. You must live a really sheltered life to be offended by swearing on a TV show. Especially MTV, and it was live. I hear more swearing in my everyday life, doing everyday things. Didn’t bother me at all and MTV should of had to release an apology.

  • Check It

The MTV Awards was suppose to be like that. It may be offensive to some people but it’s what separates it from the other award shows like the Oscar’s. Too bad all the voters were from young generation.

  • amandooo

it was not offending at all!!!! it was freakin hilarious. please. walking around in a high school has 80 times more cursing

  • NG

Oops and I meant MTV shouldn’t of had to release an apology…

  • Dani

    MTV is worst than ever

  • Um

I didn’t watch the show. What does Peter Facinelli have to do with this?

  • Sweet

It wax mainly the “scripted” material that had the most cussing!
So I don’t know what MTV is talking about?!
Tom Cruise had the worst mouth of the night!
    He was pathetic

  • Marie

I wasn’t offended but I found it very unprofessional and immature. Yeah, it’s the MTV Awards, so big whoop, but come on. Reminded me why I don’t watch much MTV anymore.

  • I n F a m o u s l y C o o l..

…A few “Fcuks” made it through, no big deal.

  • Naty

Don’t care about the cussing… I was offended by the Best Actress award to Kristen Stewart! She’s cute and all but best actress?? Only on MTV!

  • sarahc

I wasn’t offended. It was just kind of uneccessary.

  • KellStar

The show was just terrible. I’m French Canadian so I can appreciate a good curse but all the “f*cks” added zero entertainment value. That wasn’t even near the worst of the problems. I will list those here.

    1. Twilight winning every award. People say they’re surprised Anna Kendricks won for a movie like Up in the Air, but she only got votes because she was also in *gasp* Twilight.

1.5. Absolutely no variety or excitement. See #1

    2. Kristen Stewart’s forced awkwardness. I’m not a follower of her career but that level of complete social failure can not be natural. And since she was constantly up on stage, the viewers could not escape her.

    3. Complete lack of movie stars at a movie awards show! I don’t blame them for not showing seeing as it was somehow possible for Tom Felton (who basically just cried the entire movie) to win best villain against Christopher Waltz!

3.5. Will Ferrell and Mark Walhberg being complete assholes during Tom’s speech. Yes it’s MTV, but try and have a little class.

    4. The host was embarrassingly bad.

    5. J. Lo singing on stage singing a song from… the last decade? They couldn’t have gotten anyone current for Tom Cruise to dance with!

    6. Christina Aguilera also doing complete nonsense up on stage. Is she trying to steal GaGa’s thunder? Girl, just sing!

    ok everyone gets the point

  • Kelly

It was funny! It was only really overdone when Tom Cruise came on, he was a bit of a douche.
