Chris Pine as Lieutenant of Inishmore -- FIRST PIC!

Chris Pine as Lieutenant of Inishmore -- FIRST PIC! has the first picture of Chris Pine in his new play, The Lieutenant of Inishmore.

The show is a blistering, graphic satire on violence set in 1993 on the rocky island of Inishmore. Padraic (Pine), a hard-boiled terrorist, has been away in Northern Ireland with his busy schedule of torture and assorted nationalist mayhem, but he is lured home to Inishmore by the news that his beloved cat, Wee Thomas, is doing poorly. When Padraic finds out Wee Thomas has been murdered, he initiates a cycle of revenge-killing that threatens everyone in his path, except perhaps the love-struck Mairead (Zoe Perry), a 16-year-old terrorist groupie with a BB gun.

The Lieutenant of Inishmore starts previews at the Mark Taper Forum on June 30, opens July 11 and continues through August 8, 2010. Tickets are available at!

This sounds terrible on so many levels (terrorist “laughs,” animal-death plot devices, fake Irish accents, etc.) that I feel sincerely sorry for the Star Trek fans who feel compelled to see it because of Chris Pine. Honestly, that plot sounds like the loser in an April Fools script-pitch.

I can’t believe he is in the Lietenant of Inishmore! It is an amazing, hilarious, dark and twisted play, a very challenging one at that..a sure departure from Captain Kirk. Good on him! I would be very interested to see him in this role, I hope he pulls it off!

  • ck_always

That’s the dumbest plot I’ve ever heard ..

Oh Chris! You look so HOT with such a ‘naughty’ smile. I so want to see this play…live so far away (NZ), weeping :(

The play has a dumb plot? Not really – more like, interesting/scary. You do realise that in history, there have been people like Padriac – eg Stalin of Soviet Union – a mean crazy megalomaniac (suspected of murdering Lenin but never proven), but when it came to his pet cat, he behaved quite the opposite to the way he did most of the time.
Fake Irish accents? Maybe. Then again, half the audience might have difficulty understanding if the actors were speaking genuine Irish…LOL.

You go, Chris. Have fun with Padriac. Take care. Love ya!

I saw this play in New York at the Atlantic Theatre. It is one of the best plays I have ever seen. The plot/story line is amazingly funny and dark (and I don’t say that lightly). Pine is lucky to have been cast in this production. The Mark Taper Forum produces top-notch work. Good for him. I have been telling ALL of my friends that they have to see it!
