American Idol: $800 Million in Ad Revenue!

American Idol has earned FOX an estimated $800 million in advertising revenue!

Rumors are swirling that the talent competition may be bought from CKX Inc., the company that owns the show.

Ratings are down 9% from last year, and Simon Cowell‘s departure may further hurt viewership. Simon‘s salary was about $35 million, according to the L.A. Times!

Although some say the show is past its prime at this point, it could still be a lucrative investment for the right firm.

DO YOU THINK Idol is past its prime?

I won’t watch without Simon, but I think the show will still continue to do well. Not as good as before, but probably still in the top 1 or 2 slots weekly.

I still watch and I like seeing the people sing and accomplish their dreams, but the show itself has become stupid. The judges don’t know what they are talking about because their focus has become less about talent. Their criticism is redundant and sometimes contradictory and the jokes are cheesy and stupid. I think the show has run its course and should end, but something just as good should come along with a new concept.

Idol isn’t past its prime, but without Simon, it will be completely worthless. I don’t know why they are even bothering to continue it. No matter who they plunk down in Simon’s seat, that person will be just a judge, not a phenomenon, even if it’s one of the many big names that the lemmings are pulling for (Bret Michaels, Harry Connick, Jr., etc.). They already put the first two nails in the coffin by letting Paula walk and by adding Ellen (two of the dumbest decisions in the history of television). The addition of Kara wasn’t necessary, either, and she proved that she can’t hold down the fort chemistrywise at the judges’ table, also the beginning of the end.

i think the show needs a major reboot/remodel. With the way the show is continuing… it’s downhill. Letting paula leave was a mistake, although i LOVE ellen, i don’t see her place there and she doesn’t add that humor i was hoping she’d naturally bring. adding kara was the biggest, if the not the dumbest thing. this girl thinks she has it going on & if you listen to her critiques, they contradict each other week by week. & now that simon is leaving? oh boy it’s over but i’m sure people will still watch to see what it’s like with all the changes. maybe simon’s US xfactor will be better?!
