Alec Baldwin to Quit Acting in 2012

Alec Baldwin has said he will quit acting when his contract on 30 Rock expires in 2012.

The 52-year-old actor, who received his fourth consecutive Emmy nomination for 30 Rock this morning, considers his whole movie career to be a “complete failure.”

Alec told Us Weekly that the goal of movie-making “is to star in a film where your performance drives the film, and the film is either a soaring critical or commercial success, and I never had that.”

Alec is currently starring in a production of Equus at Guild Hall in East Hampton, N.Y. until July 13!

ARE YOU SAD that Alec will quit acting?

No I am not sad at all. I think his whole family are a bunch of idiots. Good riddance douchebag.

I think that many people would disagree with Mr. Baldwin that his acting career was a failure. http://bit.ly/aJocm2 He seems to be his own worst critic. The man has good acting chops and has been in the business or DECADES. That’s more than a LOT of actors can say about their careers.

Please don’t be so hard on yourself, Alec. Surely the fact that many millions of people have enjoyed your performance in many movies and on television has counted for something. I always look forward to watching something that has Alec Baldwin in it because of your sharp wit and good acting chops. But why not retire? It sounds like a great idea to have one’s time their own.

@ sharon. I totally agree with you. He is the king douchebag along with his other douchebag brothers.

Haven’t we heard this before from him? He sounds needy and wants people to beg him to stay.

I can’t believe he is so hard on himself, that’s sad ..he’s funny actor for me!

Alec, have you forgotten The Hunt for Red October? That movie was awsome! I still watch it if I come across it on cable. I wish you well.

Hope not he’s a good actor.

He here omg like old and diffren .but im hot and handsom boy and cute body

at least he’s honest.

but he seems like a good actor.

if he got the right part, i bet he’d get an oscar nom.

I doubt it if he will quit because that is too far in the future to predict

@ K. I totally agree with you. He needs to just shut up and go away.

It’s a shame that to him the basis of acting is tied to commercial success and/or screen time. He’s been Oscar nominated and won an Emmy. He’s clearly talented. If he cared about being an actor the two things he cites as reason to leave wouldn’t matter so much. Maybe he just doesn’t have the passion for it anymore. Too bad. But I’ll live.

he was supposed to leave the country years ago. I know cititzens sent moving vans to his home to assist him, but the drama queen is still here. He just needs a little attention.

All these actors with low, raspy voices and are relatively good-looking think they can be movie stars. Alec found his niche with SNL and 30 Rock. he’s basically an excellent sketch comic with a knack for impersonation. In his younger days, his looks got him some coveted movie roles, but his passion for political activision will probably lead to a California Senate seat in 6 years, especially if Barbara Boxer loses this year. California, as we all know, LOVES to elect celebrities, whether qualified or not. I mean, who would’ve ever guessed a muscle-bound Austrian would be governor, or a number of B-movie actors {George Murphy, Ronald Reagan} would become policy makers. Good luck….

I’m not sure about all that this guy has done, but I am sure that there are plenty of aspiring actors who wouldn’t have minded being in movies regardless of whether they were the driving performance. What a spoiled a**hole.

Yes, I would be VERY sad – if this is really true!

But I think it’s also very sad that you (and not only you) make such a big deal out of an interview Alec Baldwin gave in December 2009 (to “Mens Journal” NOT US Weekly).

And: Alec is NOT “currently” starring in a production of Equus at Guild Hall in East Hampton, N.Y. until July 13! The production closed on July 3rd.!!!

The production was great, btw.

Alec needs to talk with a good psychotherapist and work on his self-esteem issues. Enjoying the craft of acting is not only about being a “critical or commercial success”, it is about the joy you get from performing. He has had a very successful career, which most actors could only wish for, too bad he is unable to appreciate that and feels like a failure instead.

that is, until he feels he needs just a little more money… then… COMEBACK!!!

Simply think he’s a bully and not funny.

ok buh-bye already… will miss you on 30 Rock tho

He’s a good actor but his personal antics I haven’t thought much of (his rant against his daughter, his abuse of ex-wife the lovely Kim Basinger. If he wants to retire it’s his choice, he’s certainly had some great roles in some great movies.
