Mindy Kaling: Dwight Should Run 'The Office'

Mindy Kaling thinks Dwight Schrute could handle being regional manager of Dunder Mifflin!

The 31-year-old actress and writer, who plays Kelly Kapoor on The Office, told EW‘s Michael Ausiello that she’d “love to see Rainn Wilson [as boss].”

“Dwight has become so nuanced — you actually care about him now,” Mindy said. “I think if [we did a good job laying the groundwork] this coming season he would be a fantastic boss.”

“But that’s my dream,” Mindy added. “It certainly hasn’t been approved by people that are more powerful than me and who make those kind of decisions.”

Steve Carell, who plays Michael Scott, has said that he is ready to leave The Office after next season is complete.

WHO DO YOU THINK should replace Steve Carell?

If Dwight takes over I might actually start watching this show again.

Dwight needs to run for President of the US, too.

@Slig:

Bug off troll.

personally I think the show has run its course and should just be cancelled after next season.
but the network would never do that as long as the show is making them money.
so that said, a promotion within would probably go over better than trying to find the next Steve Carell. Watching Dwight lose his water trying to do the job of boss could be good for a season or two.

The only way I would continue to watch the show, is if they made either Dwight Shrute or Jim the new boss. An outsider wouldn’t feel right…unless he was played by Ricky Gervais.

The show won’t be the same without him. It should be the end for the show too.

Don’t bother fixing the hole on the sinking ship. Next season is it’s last, the Kadork elf knows nothing about comedy. Her character is just filler and not funny. The new comedy is Modern Family… you’ll like this ship instead. Come join me.

@Ethan:

Don’t be a troll. She’s not an elf.

What? No, no! This can’t happen! Steve Carrel is so funny! Michael Scott is indispensable for the show! I’ll miss him a lot…

Apparently, people can’t take a joke. Dwight would make a GREAT President.

Again copying from the original, uh? They can’t even make up their own character’s exit. If you have seen the original you know what I mean.

Though I like the whole cast, Steve Carrel is the main reason I watch. I guess I’d be willing to give it a shot, but I really don’t think I’ll like it as much after he leaves.

Whoever they choose, I’m glad that Steve abided by his contract and now that it’s time to go, Ricky G is letting him go on with life. You never see this in Hollywood. People who aren’t huge stars at the beginning of a series run get famous, then throw diva fits to get out of their contract, or we have to endure the “money games” that typically get played at this point.
Thank you for showing that there are some real people in Hollywood(and wherever you call home Ricky).

i love the office. I like all the characters as they are. If they continue without the amazing Steve Carell, Rainn Wilson as Dwight would be funny.
