M. Night Shymalan to Reporter: If I Thought Like You I'd Kill Myself

M. Night Shymalan didn’t hold back when he addressed a reporter in Mexico City at a Last Airbender press conference earlier this week.

After the reporter asked if Night felt like he was trying to win his audience back after they’d lost faith in his work, he retorted, “I think if I thought like you I’d kill myself.”

“Everything you said is the opposite of my instinct as an artist,” Night added. “The way you just thought, I literally would kill myself.”

The 39-year-old director, who cited massive success in France, Spain and Japan, continued, “I’ve literally turned down more money in my life to do things because I just don’t believe in it.”

He really dropped the ball on the Last Airbender. He could have least hired Asian actors. I’m sick of Hollywood trying to whitewash everything. I would think he, at least, would want to see more color on screen.

What an EGO on this guy..he must have caught it from Mel when he directed Signs..if I thought like you I would kill myself? I would have said ‘If I directed like you I would kill myself’ and gave it back to him..It’s like how dare you critisize my work or not liked what I have done..I kind of understand that he can’t think like that otherwise you would be constently trying to one up yourself..but the way he responded made him look like a total ass..and the actor next to him clapping and defending his statement made the actor look like a big old douche..He could have said not everyone likes my movies, and I don’t make my movies for everyone to like, but for my audience..but instead he decided to show his inflated ego..it just irked me and I had to respond.. I hope this movie Bombs..

That reporter was rude. Good for him. If anyone critized your hard work/career, we’d all have gotten defensive.

sorry but the reporter is right, after sixth sense his movies are not good anymore, plus his answer is so arrogant, you don’t make movies for yourself, but for others and mass audience!

He is a rude psychopath. Who says that to a person? He obviously has no conscience, because another person would never say that to someone, like hey I dislike your question so much, go kill yourself. And then he reinforces it even more by saying, literally!

He has no morals.

I like that he goes with his artistic instinct instead of being a cookie-cutter filmmaker. He’s very creative and original.

Yeah, he does his own thing “as an artist”. Too bad his movies suck. If he ever accepted input from others maybe he wouldn’t be such a failure.

the reporter was right, his movies all over the world have bombed! this film made a bit more due to the hype and it being attached to an award winning cartoon, that is a well known fan favorite, but it was crap, i saw it, he was lazy as a director for this film and it was awful.

‘I’ve literally turned down more money in my life to do things because I just don’t believe in it’…..duh!
As opposed to what, Manoj?
Being paid more money for doing things you don’t believe in and can’t be bothered to do properly!

Let him do us all a favour and kill himself – that will spare us from more horrible movies he is bound to make in the future.

Wowza. Way to be defensive AND offensive at the same time M. Night.
And he really should quit calling himself an artist. Coz no one thinks of him that way.

What an egomaniacal *******. The reporter’s question may have been mildly offensive but it was valid. The truth hurts! M. Night Shyamalan is an abrasive douche bag for attacking her on the defensive, especially considering how he probably makes 500 times more money than than her to direct his self-indulgent crap. He hasn’t deserved his bloated paycheck since The Sixth Sense.

Btw, A$*hole is bleeped but douche bag is ok? That’s a weird filter you’ve got there, Jared.

He is a typical Indian man from Indian which is the skin bleaching capital of the universe. Even in Bollywood movies they refuse to use actors and actresses who look “too Indian”! They only want you on film over there is you look more Persian and Afghani than South Asian. They are the most self-hating people on earth with their stupid caste system delineating other Indians by their skin tone. Mindy Kaling wouldn’t stand a chance over there and neither would an Indian actor who looked like the great golfer V.J. Singh. East Indians have no shame and worship white people as if they were gods.

He is ugly.

Avatar was TERRIBLE. And they had such good source material to work from. It wasn’t even just rushed pacing or difficulty adapting it. The writing was so awful, the cinematography looked like a film student covering because they forgot to get shots, and they pronounced all of the characters’ names wrong!

Thumb up Thumb down 0

his movies are crap…The 6th Sense was his only worth watchign film…the others could use editing and less drama over the top and STOP with the tale of life and his BS….THE REPORTER WAS RIGHT TO ASK HIM…ABOUT TIEM SOMEONE DID.

ALL THOSE ‘the reporter was rude” …eat me.
