Mark Wahlberg: Hollywood Walk of Fame Star!

Mark Wahlberg holds his commemorative plaque while touching his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Thursday (July 29) in Hollywood, Calif.

The 39-year-old actor received the 2,414th star on the legendary walk of fame. Mark was joined by his wife Rhea Durham and their four children, Ella, Michael, Brendon, and Grace.

Also in attendance at the ceremony was Mark‘s The Other Guys co-star Will Ferrell, who jokingly presented Mark with his star by hilariously joking, “I first became a fan of Mark‘s when I bought his workout video.”

What ‘deserve’. It’s not like you have to ‘earn’ them. Even fictional characters can get a star. Pony up the money for sponsorship and it’s yours or the celebrity of your choice. See the (questionable) criteria below.
There was more honor attached to it in the earlier days, now it’s just a joke. There are some very talented people in Hollywood who don’t have a star and probably don’t want one. It’s just a cheesy Chamber of Commerce marketing tool.’ It attracts 10 million viewers a year.
The committee have been known to bend the rules as well. There are also a number of celebrities who turned down the Star because they were required to attend the unveiling and they didn’t want to attend.
Criteria for Getting a Star on the Walk of Fame
The criteria for getting a star on the Walk of Fame are fairly simple. For consideration, a nominee must:

    1. Have a record of professional achievement within the nominated field.
    2. Have worked in the entertainment industry for a minimum of five years.
    3. Have made contributions to the community, typically through charitable activities.

The recipient must also agree to attend the dedication ceremony. In addition, a sponsorship fee of $25,000 must be paid. Non-human and fictional characters are also eligible for stars on the Walk of Fame. Kermit the Frog, Big Bird, Rin Tin Tin and Lassie all have stars.

There are so many people, animals, fictional characters on those stars that it can hardly be called ‘special’.
The fact is, anyone, even a fan, can nominate anyone for a star as long as the nominee has at least five years of experience in the field they are being honored for. ( i guess rule 1 and 3 really don’t matter lol)
A letter of agreement from the nominee or a representative must accompany the application.
A fee of $25,000 is collected for the creation, installation and maintenance of the star.

    Courtney Says:

please people he’s been in the business long enough to earn this honor and the star ceremony isn’t a new phenomenon either they’ve had them for more than 50 years and a celeb can get multiple stars frank Sinatra has three one for singing one for Radio and the third for acting. The first actress to be awarded a star on the hollywood walk of fame was Joanne Woodward February 9th 1960 after having appeared in 7 films with her eighth set to be released a few months later and already having won a golden globe and an oscar nearly 2 years earlier

@leah: Boogie Nights. As far as I’m concerned for that role alone he deserve the star.
