Remember in the60′s people supported segregating public domains based on RACE! Those rules were overturned B/C of the constitution! ThankGOD

One day we will see that denying rights to some based on “definitions” is ridiculous, elitist, and sad. Love is LOVE. “All men are created=”

If 52% of voters voted to renact segregation tomorrow, would you say it’s okay b/c “people voted for it!?” HELL no. Think people. EQUALITY!

Reenact, btw. Typing so fast because I am mad as hell and I will NOT be quiet. I will not sit idly by. BASIC HUMAN RIGHTS. End of story.

Rights are rights. And if one group is denied rights that others are afforded by the same government, it violates our constitution. TRUTH.

Hate crimes are on the rise. Why? Those who don’t believe in gay rights are afraid?! Hate in the name of religion is pathetic. GOD IS LOVE.

If JudgementDay is the day to face him, why do mortals think they have a right to judge one another? That is not true faith. GodDoesNOTHate.

    to laverdadduele Says:

equality is exactly what it is. to do otherwise is a direct violation of the the consitiution of the united states of america. you do know what that is, right? the framers of the constitution did not say “everyone except those who are homosexual/lesbian” you idiot. it was written for all the people of the united states including, unforunately, you and your fellow members of the intolerant not so moral majority.

i am straight as an arrow, happily living with boyfriend. i do not even pretend to understand half of what goes on in the gay community. however, i will not stand by and allow these people to be denied the rights and privileges that i as a straight person enjoy. these people are entitled to love whom they choose and, yes, marry whom they choose. they are also entitled to have their marriage legally recognized by law. as by boyfriend says “why should these people be denied the joy and wonder of the divorce courts”.

  56. 56
    Dawn Says:

Read the constitution sometime. It clearly says that the rights should not be voted on by the people. That’s why we have courts. The fact that this even went to a vote was unconstitutional.

  57. 57
    laverdadduele Says:

  58. 58
    ck_always Says:

It won’t last and the Supreme Court won’t buy into it. A homosexual judge, made the ruling and had the audacity to say prop 8 was based off ‘moral decision making’. Yet him being gay and overturning millions of fair votes to ban gay marriage wasn’t a ‘moral decision’? What a terrible contradiction and unless you live AND vote in the state of California, this isn’t your issue. Just because you’re gay and in another state, does not mean this is about you. People aren’t furious because gay marriage ban was overturned. Californian VOTERS are pissed off because what is the point in having a vote when a single judge can overturn the public majority? I’m not worried about gay marriage, I think everyone should live their lives how they want as long as they abide by the justice system. I’m more concerned with my vote as an American and a Californian. This isn’t about gay people versus straight. This is about our voting and it becoming void. This judge is whack and made a fool out of himself. We need equal rights, for everyone ..but this isn’t the way to do it. These celebrities are pretty ignorant as well for not even understanding the situation. No offense, but the majority of the public on this matter is completely oblivious to the fine-print as well.

What part of the vote in the first place was unconstitutional in the first place? Basic rights like getting married to who you want are not suppose to be put to be voted on by people. The vote itself was unconstitutional and deserves to be voided. The vote violated the 14th amendment.

    ck_always Says:

@Dawn: There are other ways to settle an unconstitutional bill or prop in this case. The fact that a gay judge silenced millions of votes ..whether right or wrong in the first place, using the exact same thought-process as those he deemed ‘wrong’ is what becomes unconstitutional. Again, it’s not about gay rights, it’s about people losing their right to vote. Think bigger picture, it’s not a worry about this one vote. It’s a worry about potentially having an important vote in the future, becoming void using these same tactics. Do you honestly think this was a spontaneous decision by the judge? He’s crossed his T’s and dotted his I’s. This is politics we’re talking about. People will bend the rules and create loopholes for anything to sway the momentum in their favor.

your moron!! this is just not california’s issue. it’s america’s issue. you’re right it’s not about gay rights. it’s about human rights!!! the right of all individuals regardless of race, religious believes AND SEXUAL ORIENTATION to enjoy the same rights and freedoms as any other american citizen. THAT MEAN, IDIOT, THE RIGHT TO MARRY AND HAVE THE MARRIAGE RECOGNIZED BY LAW.

you don’t like gay marriage, fine you don’t have to. but guess what, you do not have the right or the privilige of interfering with another american citizen’s rights. do you have any idea how stupid americans like yourself look to the outside world.

Argentina (deeply catholic), belgium, Canada, Iceland, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal (also a catholic country), South Africa, Spain (also a catholic country), and Sweden figured it along time ago. these countries grant legal recognition of same sex marriage. and guess what!!! these countries have not fallen apart,; the world has not come to an end.

You’ve completely misinterpreted my entire opinion, thus attacking me on a personal level out of self-rage. I can sense a language barrier between the two of us. Perhaps you misunderstood a particular word or phrase that led you to these assumptions? Again, I’m not attacking gays, if it’s any concern to you, I voted against Prop 8 to begin with. What exactly are you not clear on? I’m discussing political imbalances, not sexual discrimination. Congratulations on trying to attack me on a personal and social level as an ‘American’. If you want to stereotype me, fine, but do so as the open-minded educated kind. I know this is the internet and proper grammar and punctuation are intimidating and perceived as an aggressive attitude, but those are not my intentions. Millie Says:

Wish I could remind all of these celebs that this will be appealed- likely all the way to the Supreme Court.

The whole gay marriage issue aside, I have a MAJOR issue with 1 judge negating a direct referendum of the people. Millions of Californians voice their preference and 1 judge disaffirms it? Now that seems pretty unconstitutional…

  79. 79
    Millie Says:

@ck_always: I couldn’t have said it better myself! I’m more worried about the my voice as a citizen. Or more accurately here, the voice of the majority of Californians.

The Constitution affords us the right to vote and create our laws through these processes, but it sure doesn’t say that marriage of any kind is a right. That would fall into the category of “powers not delegated by the Constitution” which are “reserved to the States” aaaaand its people!! I guess I just get tired of people saying that it is their Constitutional right to get married to whoever they want… its not, its up to the states.

Just to be clear, I am not “against” gay rights, just “for” state-rights. Im OK with these reforms if they are done through the proper channels and as the citizens of each state deem necessary and appropriate. The two can go hand in hand.

  82. 82
    : / Says:

@Adam: Just wondering, are you religious? Because if you are, you’re not representing your religion very well — people like you are one of the reasons so many can’t take religious people seriously. Jesus never spewed Hate, never spewed racism, never discriminated or said anything like you constantly type on this site. His message was of Love. How can someone who is apparently so religious really think that his all loving God would want others to not have the same rights as him? You genuinely believe you’re going to Heaven by acting this way? You’re either a really bad troll, a confused ‘religious’ fundementalist, or a closeted gay man covering up your homophobic feelings with the excuse of Faith.

I’m all for equal rights for gays. But I’m also for equal rights for EVERYONE. Women still have a loooong way to go until we have equality. Women get paid .70 per every dollar men make for doing the exact same job. Women are all whorez and ***** while men are pimps and players. The majority of actresses are judged mainly by the way they look not their talent. Women in the middle east are beheaded or stoned for any misbehavior. Women in the Congo and all over Africa are raped as a form of warfare and intimidation to gain control of land and mines. Those mines have minerals or chemicals that we in the West use for our cell phones and laptops. In the middle east 50 year old men take 8 year old child brides, and then build a harem with several more wives. Women have a long way to go before the are equal and just like I wanted the death of Prop 8 I want the death of all inequality.

    to ck_always Says:

    re post 76

you are the one who does not get it. so let me try again. i didn’t realize you were so slow. the united states constitution guarantees the freedom of speech, religion and association. the framers of the constitution did not say “everyone except gays/lesbians” now did it?

one of the fundamental rights and privileges, that most people enjoy, in the united states is to love whomever one chooses and to marry whomever one chooses. you notice, i said most people. however, prop 8 would deny american citizens who happen to be gay/lesbian the same right and privilege that you have; that is to marry whomever you want and have that marriage legally recognized by law. that is not only un-american it is not constitutional.

in other words, you and others like yourself want to have “separate but equal” status for gays/lesbians. you know how well that worked out for african americans, don’t you. as for me being angry, you bet i am. straight and i am, my boyfriend and i will not stand by quietly and allow you and your friends to deny gays/lesbians there rights as american citizens. neither will others. this will become the next civil rights issue. that upsets you? so what.

as for anger, think about this. the gay/lesbian community has a great deal of money to spend. and whether you like it or not both parties court them come election time. now there’s a republican convention taking place this weekend and, trust me, behind closed doors these republicans who are seeking office are going to hear a lot of angry members of the gay community.
